To what degree are 'non game' content allowed on itch.io

As I understand, itch.io allows you to upload comics and other stuff that isn't directly a video game. But how much of a degree does it allow that? If I wanted to make a sprite or ascii movie in javascript or some other means of distributing it such as downloading an mp4/ogg, would that be allowed? I know this isn't youtube, but I was curious and wanted to know if animated movies (Such as sprite or ASCII or anything like that) were allowed on itch.io.

Yes, probably. That's what the "everything else" category is for. Not sure if people come to itch.io for that sort of thing, but you can try.

i think anything is allowed. when you make a new project, there’s a list of things in the upload drop down which covers basically anything.

Exactly. But developers might have a hard time finding an audience for their works here, if it is not a little bit related to the main categories. Non game related videos would be better put on a dedicated video platform, as there is no support at all for such things. Just barebone file downloads. An animation made in software sounds more like a thing I would expect on itch.

Because itch.io lets users download the files exactly as you uploaded them you can upload any kind of project for any kind of platform. There are no restrictions.
