Hi, I am Fran, the person behind LabChurros (formerly TovarichChan).

I created this board so I could gather feedback from people on the game. As I wrote in the description for the game, this game was a course assignment that I decided to turn hornier and add size content to it. The downside is that I don't feel comfortable posting it in the Gamedev.tv forums to get feedback, as suggested by the teachers. Since feedback is really valuable I came here to ask the people that played the game.

So.... what did you guys think about the game? Was anyone not able to complete it? Did you run into any game-breaking bugs? Did you find Sylvia too annoying?... did you find the extra thing you can do with the golden statue? Tell me what you tough about the game, what you didn't like, and what you did like about it.

So, Fun little game. Puzzles were really simple, but at this point that really doesn't matter, and ya, Sylvia was a bit annoying... While I do love my self some growing Ladies, I've personally never been a fan of size theft or shrinking stuff.

If you ever decide to continue with this game or one with a similar idea, I'd love to have a bit of control over how and/or how much she grows, with the player shrinking stuff as part of a give/take system, like most puzzles have a really easy way of completing them as well as a longer harder solution, and if you take the easy route that's when you shrink. On top of that I'd be cool if you had the option to grow her curvier as well as taller, or with some puzzles you had to choose between making her taller or growing her breasts for example. Also something I thought up while typing this is maybe the growth magic makes her more susceptible to suggestion, so in-between puzzles you can talk to her, and steer her toward being more kind or evil as she grows.

Again These are all just ideas I had while playing, can't wait to see what you put out next!

I definitely liked the shrinking curse gimmick, but I feel it could be expanded upon in a more than cosmetic way. Currently shrinking stops at a certain point and doesn't actually impact the player, so I'd recommend things like traps that only trigger once you're small enough, or some kind of combat system that gets harder the more you shrink (so like, rats are an easy enemy and you can just squash spiders but once you get small enough then rats become more of a challenge and spiders can actually hurt you) though given it's supposed to be a puzzle game I don't think a combat system in required. The puzzles could also be harder,  since currently they're just taking one statue to another (pretty obvious) place. Sylvia was alright, but I didn't really like her that much.  Going off the size combat idea from earlier, maybe Sylvia could help you in fights once you get too small, but the catch is that every time you get her help she gets crueller, and if she's too cruel then she starts messing with you in dangerous ways until she just kills you once you're too small. Either way, a sort of morality scale for her would be cool

also I did find the golden statue thing, very shrink

The game was a decent enough proof of concept. Though I feel like the optimization could be worked on as my RTX 2060 was at 90% load constantly.  Sylvia was... Well, she felt a bit awkard in dialogue.  Though the game did get me interested in learning more about the crypt/dungeon and about Beatrice.

If you wanted to expand on this project, I'd love to see a puzzle game based around it. Could be like Inch by Inch where you're working against the clock. And for where the story could go, well. There must be a reason why Beatrice's curse is about making one woman grow taller, right?

I am really surprised to hear about the performance. I developed it with a GTX960 and it runs fine in my machine. Are you running it at 4K or targeting frame rates above 60?

Thanks for the feedback and suggestions everyone. It is true the if this is to be further developed it would need puzzle mechanics that work around size changing, but I would not make it a fail state mechanic. I see a lot of nsfw games that have their "titillating content" as fail states and I don't think that is good design, it almost punishes people for playing the game well. There is a lot to improve with this little thing I made but I did, by desing, made the character shrink and Sylvia grows for each piece of the puzzle you solved because I thought that would be a good reward for the crowd I made the game for.

Seems a lot of people dont like Sylvia. She is supposed to be cocky and condescending and that is probably a turn of for some, personally it's not my thing either, but I feel that the main problem is that she is giving too much exposition. She ended up in the role of puzzle aid and little lore dump. I think that ended up been too much.

Anyways that is what was in my mind after reading you guys feedback.

Little information on the "story" of the game....

I wrote the characters as I developed the game. The puzzles where just slightly different from the puzzles from the assignment so I wrote it around what I was given.

Sylvia exists because else I couldn't do size content. I could shrink the player, but than you be measuring yourself against what? Wall tiles? She is suppose to be an expert on  masonry. Making her an expert about the secrets of dungeons, temples, castles, etc... And she is bit too cocky about it.

Beatrice exists to make the dungeon feel more interesting and make the game world feels larger than the playable area. There is barely any thought behind the church of the embrace other than I thought a body of hot nuns running a welcoming cult was an interesting  seed to plant. In my little head canon Beatrice is a black sheep by been a dommy mommy.

The curse only exists for me to justify player progression been linked to shrinking and growing. Also, Beatrice is naturally huge, or maybe enhanced due to her life style over time.... because fantasy setting, don't worry about it.

I actually liked Sylvia.  Too often we get the shy, reserved character.  Sylvia, considering she starts out considerably smaller than us, has a big ego, but shes still a somewhat informative character and important to us, so it works. I almost would like to see you play into that more and make her more braggish as she gets larger.  Wanted to add this game felt very Elder Scrolls.  I loved the setting and tone.  If this was a full fledged game, I would pay AAA prices for it.  Sizey puzzle game is something thats very untapped, your game could easily fit that niche.

I would change a bunch of stuff about Sylvia but I would never make her shy. She is supposed to be confident and cocky no matter her size.

As I wrote in the description I used free asset packs from the unreal marketplace, that Dungeon/Crypt combo pack has some very strong Elder Scrolls dungeons vibe, just less cold.

At some point in the future, I would love to try turning this into an Immersive Sim like the old Thief or Hitman games. With less combat and more environmental puzzles.

I enjoyed your game so far. I'm more into giantess or breast expansion than shrinking but the shrinking stuff work great with your game concept. I think the player should be able to restore their size at some point but Sylvia is growing bigger as consequence.

I will watch your game closely and I can't wait for what is coming next. Great work!

do you know how to do DMs here?

Developer

I don't think you can do DMs on itch.

oh

I thought it was just a puzzle game, but you pleasently surprised me. Another niche gem into my collection. Ofc would like to have more and maybe more story, but I understand. Though what I DEFINITELY would love to have is to move faster in this game.

Quite enjoyable and I'll be sure to check out any stuff you make in the future!

Developer

Already working on it, check it out: https://twitter.com/LabChurros

you didn't update it since then? nothing new ?

Also when will you add on itch this new battle royale game?

Developer(+1)

No updates. This was a short project I did as a course assignment. If I ever do another Grand Larceny Tales it would be a new game.

As for the new game, It is not a battle royale game, it's a survival horde mode kinda thingy. I am working on a free public prototype demo I hope to release here on itch soon.
You can follow its development on my discord server: https://discord.gg/XVPnaj5cbR

Thank you kind friend.

Oh, I came here after exploring the Project Oasis game. I really love these games you have here as I'm a total fan of shrinking aspect. This puzzle was crazy fun, and I really felt the last shrink! Keep up the fun stuff!

Developer

Thank you for playing it Beitie! I will keep trying to do my best!

Cant download the game. It's just stop downloading at some point. Anyone else have the same problem maybe?

Developer (1 edit)

Someone told me the same thing recently, I will have a look and see if I can figure out what's happening.

PS: Itch went through a kind of server change yesterday and they are trying to sort out the issue right now. According to them it might be fixed already, If anyone experiences this problem again let me know

I managed to download, but when starting the game Im getting error : "the procedure entry point CreateFile2 could not be located in the dynamic link library KERNEL32.dll". I installed all the prerequisites btw. Is it because I still use Windows 7?

Developer

I am having a bit of trouble finding a definitive answer for this. It seems Unreal games above a certain engine version do not officially support Windows 7 anymore, but sometimes times will run and sometimes won't. The problem could also be linked to other PC troubles. If that is the case there seems to be a bunch of possible solutions when you google the problem. Looking over some I would say make sure to update your GPU drives if they are not yet. If I find any solution I will let you know.

I just wish it was longer, no need to create more some super hard puzzles, just more and statue is like curvy. why not make her curvy too? and imho no more shrinking, there is a lot of room for her to just grow, this give-take system is cool but there is non need to make him smaller. i saw there was a door that was slightly openned and why not continue a puzzle there? in general i think the game is nice, normal graphics, normal map and lighting is cool too, so the only thing for me is length of game. also i had the idea like the more you hold the golden statue or stare at it the more girl grows or something like this. also i've read some comments and idea of working against a clock is really good, Sylvia herself mentioned that they should get ot of there before she needs coffin same size. so i think it's great idea, also maybe not only make her taller but also curvier so that at some point she will be to big and curvy to fit in some spaces. but it's just my fetishes.
