Two of the games I downloaded had viruses
Sorry to hear that. I hope you reported them. Two games out of how many?
It will be you use Edge Chromium or Google Chrome, those browsers take as a virus any download that isn't official from the respective companies (Google & Microsoft).
Use the Itchio Desktop App to download the games and you won't have problems with false virus alarms from standard antivirus software.

Yes, they are, but scanning isn't perfect. Again, if you find problems, please report them.
