Blocking Needs Improved Functionality

Individual users should be able to block all mentions of another user and/or their content, if they so choose. As is, blocking a user does not do this, which I really do not understand since it seems antithetical to what blocking does on almost every other platform. Current functionality is more of a mute button than anything else, which does not suffice when directly compared to how websites like Tumblr and Twitter implemented this feature. I sincerely cannot understate how essential it is for blocking to be improved.

For instance, as a trans woman I see no reason why I should not be able to block any transphobic/fetishistic content I see fit. It only makes my experience better, with no downside as it is a client-side feature. As it stands, all I can do is ignore it, and if you have ever been in the 'Transgender'  tag at all, you know how difficult that is haha.

Please sound off with your thoughts, I would love to hear them. Thank you for your time. :)

You're absolutely right, but I thought blocking was improved not too long ago? I'll have to ask an admin.

I'd be interested to see what you hear back about it! Given a few similar threads I've seen dating back to around 2019, I'd wager there are a few elements that must have seen some improvement over that time.

Yes, you are right. When I block a user here on Itch, it doesn’t even make sense, it just hides the blocked user’s comments. I hope this can be more useful.

I'd also like the ability to block/filter threads. Sometimes I'll block a user because I don't like their post and don't want to see it again, but the thread of everyone replying to that post will still show up when I check Recent Posts.

Ooh yeah you're right, that would be pretty handy. Can't think of something I'd like to see less than a bunch of comments on a thread from a comment I was hoping to ignore and forget about lol

At the least, a blocked user's posts should not appear in the "recent posts" tab.

I would also like to be able to mute an entire topic to remove it from Recent Posts.  Recent Posts becomes unusable whenever there is a large bundle submission thread, or a pointless spam thread, or another FNF drama outburst.

This topic has been auto-archived and can no longer be posted in because there haven't been any posts in a while.
