[Writer] Seeking help on a project/Looking to build a team

Hello! Forgive me, I'm a little nervous as I've never done anything like this before. -phew-

Okay. I'm Siryn and I'm brand new to this game developer thing. It's a dream to even be doing something like this too. I recently joined a game jam that put the whole 'build a game' deal into perspective for me. I did manage to hand over something to be entered into the contest, which I'm very happy about. (Even if I'm terrified beyond belief...)

Anyway. I'm in need of a lot of help. I'm not a coder by any means, I cannot for the life of me get plug-ins to work at all (I've tried sooo many times... youtube videos, tutorials... I just can't seem to get it to work). I've never built a game, never used RPG maker at all (not a single one of them...) And I'm not an artist by any means what-so-ever.

That all said. I am a writer. I'm not going to say I'm the best or greatest or anything like that, because I'm not. I still have a long way to go to even be decent. But I enjoy what I write and I enjoy telling the stories. The game I put together for the game Jam : reach the stars is one such story that I'm very much in love with and would absolutely be thrilled to continue and finish.

But there are things I want to do that I can't do because.... I just suck at it horribly. And it's a rather large project, so having help would be great. This is a passion of mine and I'd love to see it come to fruition and maybe even one day start an indie gaming group(fingers crossed!).

The game I need help with has a demo up (because of the Jam) You can find it on my page. It's the only one I have at the moment - Askaria: The Decay. It's a fantasy RPG, very story driven/story rich. (I just downloaded some new awesome tile packs, but now I have to go through and redo all my maps -cue crying- don't worry though, the available demo is good go and does not have this issue)

Here's a direct link to it:

A few more details you should know before anything else:

1. I'm LGBTQ (bisexual) and my characters and story lines reflect this entirely. I want to bring more LGBTQ games to people. That is a big goal of mine. So, if you yourself are LGBTQ I welcome you. If you're an ally, I welcome you too.

2. I sincerely apologize, but as of right now I cannot pay anyone for their time and work. That said. When Askaria is completed (and any other projects that may come up) I do plan to sell it. So there is that to keep in mind, as of course all who are part of it will share in what's made.

3. I'm not looking for a huge group. Just a few people who share the same passions that I do. To create some fun games for other people and to tell stories that take us on adventures - whatever that might be.

As a side note, eventually one day I would love to bring these projects and ideas into 3D gaming. I even got Unity the other day and plan to spend some time playing around with it ^.^

I know this was a lot, and thank you so much reading through it. If this has caught your interest, whether you're a coder, an artist, or a writer, or even something else entirely but want to offer your help: please feel free to message me here. If this gains enough interest, I do have a discord also and I can create a group there.

Thank you again and I look forward to meeting you :)

Sincerely,

Siryn

Heya - how big do you think this project will be and will it be 2D or 3D? What game engine do you want it to be made in?

I'm not sure how big this first one will be (Askaria). Right now it's in 2D using RPG maker MZ which I will likely keep it on. I'm currently teaching myself Unity (just started last night xD) So I have a very long way to go. Eventually I do want to make 3D games but that won't be for a while yet I'm afraid :) though it is the end goal.

I'm working on my own game. Maybe we could bounce ideas off each other? Honestly, development on my project has been going so slow that Updates just equals things that should be a given.

Hi! Sorry it took me a little bit to get to your post. I don't check itch as often as I likely should. I would love to bounce ideas around :D If you're still interested, I have a discord we can use to chat easier with ^.^ I'll send it to you here shortly. If you do send me a friend request on discord, please let me know its you lol ^.^

Hi! I can already tell, just by reading your post that passion is abundant in this project, which is awesome! Congratulations on going for it, and teaching and learning and growing. I'm interested in volunteering on some projects in any way I can, I've got some visual novel experience, writing, reading, graphic design, photoshop, and the works, I can't remember the last time I opened up an RPG maker engine, but I do know a teeny bit about it. Let me know if there's anything I can do to help get your passion project going and flowing! You can contact me via discord, which is on my profile, or wherever works best for you, Best wishes!

Hi! Thank you so much! I've sent you a request on discord ^.^ I look forward to talking with you!

Im hear to help if you need help with Unity. I've been a software engineer for over 20 years and I'm currently mentoring one of my staff as a dev. Feel free to bounce questions off us and reach out if you need help. Google is my best advice I can give and stack overflow.

Hey im 3d and 2d artist im interested this is my portfolio

SirynSueng ...I guess that I could code them into html adventures (seen an LGBTIQ+ gamejam on this platform recently but maybe it's the one where you entered?), would be nice to create some games, while possibly animators would transform them into 3D or musicians adding sound, voice-overs, etc.?

I've published 3 games where you could be interactions that I'm coding by just using a text-file, no phyton, c+ or apps, rther no html5/canvas/SVG, just scripts and mainly options that get texts re/disappear, changed in font, fading or replacing sections, other types of interaction. I could offer translating lines into german while playing games would rather lag my device, but just knowing its visuals gets more connection if the right meaning getting focused there.
