No worries at all! I’m definitely up for it :D If it’s consistent across apartments, the middle of the back wall thing sounds like maybe there’s a stray collision from an invisible controller, I’ll add to my bugs list for this week. Is this in a specific building ( eg. are all the apartments you’ve tried in like Cedar Court?) or across different the buildings?

Decoration mode definitely requires a lot of extra planning so I’m aiming for better regular placement first. Moving things without the hammer would be awesome too but it’s a little tricky because of the way the interactions work right now, eg. I’d need to assign a different button press so you can differentiate between opening the fridge and moving it but all of the default buttons are already listening for things. Would it be helpful or annoying if when placing furniture it automatically locked you to a slower speed? Or maybe a hold to grab and drag like older Animal Crossings would be better?

I suuuuper get you on the inventory access too, I’ve been trying to figure out the best ways to do it in the UI because it needs to track where the item is stored add/remove properly when you use something but I do think it is do-able. I’ll bump it up the list so maybe in 2.0.0.M!

Give me a little bit to think about it and I’ll see what I can do :D

Oh awesome, I'm glad it helped a bit in the meantime and I'm glad you're still having fun in the other bits! I'll hopefully be able to get some changes done before the next update so if there's anything specific you want to request there let me know. Eg is it that you want to be able to place closer to walls? Or prefer a different placement mechanic like a decoration mode?
No promises that I'll be able to implement something massive before the next update because placement things require a lot of testing before I can release them but the more information I have about what people prefer/dislike the easier it is for me to triage what needs to be done and get fixes up! <3

It's on my list but I need to take care of a few more things first!

For the moment, you can control the grid snapping size in Settings > Display > World Tile Snap size.

The placements are currently based on the object's collision so they can't overlap and the player's position so some people have found precision decoration easier when at walking speed with no speed buffs.

If there's anything specific you're looking for in decoration let me know and I'll see what I can do :)

Thank you so much for your lovely comment! :D I am definitely planning to add the ability to have children in the future but I'm still considering how I want to implement the mechanics. If you have any requests or suggestions for them, totally let me know!

Hello! Yep, I'll be releasing it here on itch and hopefully other platforms once it's out of Early Access. I'd love to be able to put it up everywhere right now but I don't have time to manage doing the fortnightly updates/patches everywhere while I'm still finishing things. Hopefully soon though!

Very far from abandoned! It's in early access on steam where I'm publishing fortnightly content updates, the demo here gets monthly updates too and we've got a very active discord community. I just haven't released early access here because I'm a solo dev so I don't have the bandwidth to manage early access in multiple places ^_^

We chatted on discord but just leaving a note here that this will be fixed in the next upload which should be coming this month! <3

Ok no worries! Thanks so much for trying the others too :D
I've got it down on my bugs list so I will have a poke around this week and make sure it's in the next patch!

Ooh that's definitely not ideal! Let me know which apartment building you're in and I'll check it out and make sure it's patched in the next update.

As a work around for now, if you're stuck in a collision area, if you press and hold the button to walk out of it for a few seconds you might be able to shake yourself free. Let me know if you're able to get unstuck or if you'd like to send me your save file I'm happy to unstick you :D

Thanks again for reporting!!

Thanks very much for this, I couldn't get the patch to apply (I don't use git often so definitely my inexperience) but manually updating the file worked perfectly. Really appreciated!

Hey! Thanks for the bug report, I really appreciate it! :D

I've fixed the Mac display issue and it will be ready to go in the next update. I'm hoping to upload in the next week or so and the new version will have additional user settings for resolution too.  The Windows version is a few updates ahead at the moment so if you don't want to wait definitely feel free to give that one a play in the meantime.

Thanks so much again for your report, the extra details and screenshot are super helpful, I'll add a note to the mac build now too!

Hello, thanks for the report! I'm happy to troubleshoot with you,  I'll need some more info:

  • Are you using the PC or Mac version?
  • What dimensions are your screen?
  • Are you playing the most recent version?
  • If you have any screenshots that would be awesome too

If you're on Mac particularly there's a known bug with window scaling at the moment on some monitor sizes. It will be fixed in the next update but I would love to know your screen size so I can test and make sure it works before the update :D

Thanks and have a good one!

Hi! I'm Violet and I'm pretty new to game making but I've been working in GameMaker Studio so far. My current project is called Moonlight in Garland and it's the reason I started learning to code! I love farming rpgs and chill out games. Outside of games I like gardening, drawing and knitting. I'm excited to learn a bunch and make some friends :D

Moonlight in Garland is a cozy, open-ended, life-sim that sees you making a new start in the bustling metropolis of Garland.

Find an apartment and make it perfectly yours, befriend your neighbours, grow your garden, solve community problems and experience all the weirdly wonderful stuff that city living offers.

Of course, city life isn’t all farmers markets and fancy coffee. Will you step in to stop the heritage building from being torn down and preserve a piece of history? Build a sense of community so more residents will stick around? Figure out which jerk is stealing packages from the mail room? Be swept up in a whirlwind romance along the way?

Find your feet, make a positive impact and live your best life in Garland!

Download the demo for Win/Mac on itch here!

Hi! I'm a solo dev and I've been working on Moonlight in Garland as my first game since early 2020. What started as a little passion project quickly expanded into something much bigger as I got sucked deep into the rabbit hole of learning to code with GameMaker Studio ^_^

So here I am now with a lot of new skills and a free alpha demo that I would love feedback on! It's still very early days so I am looking forward to growing my skills along with the game.

Thanks for looking and hopefully see you in Garland!

If you've found a bug, I'd love to know about it so I can fix it and make Garland better!

To help me keep track of everything, report all bugs here: https://wiki.moonlightingarland.com/Report_a_Bug.html

If you start a topic in this forum, I might not see it so please use the link above and I'll get it fixed asap :)

You can also join us on discord to check in on development.

Thanks for playing and see you in Garland!

Thanks so much for publishing such a detailed rundown! I'm very new to game dev and had been debating the PWYW format but there just isn't much detailed information out there to help make decisions like this so I really appreciate being able to see it start to finish (especially with the prices in AU$)!
