It's much more natural to play with arrows with these controls, that's why it only shows them in the instructions.
I checked the scroll it worked just fine, don't know.

Not sure about crates they should be working properly, but yea maybe if u push it in unusual way could break something.
Playing should be a right hand arrows, left hand ctrl, shift, space.

The thing is, game flow is red level, purple level and then blue and yellow.
You probably fell on a wall and went to the right instead of left.
