Thanks for providing these textures! I was looking for some cartoony textures for a group game I'm working on that would match the game's cartoony aesthetic, and these work perfectly. The game is an RTS and we're planning to use the textures for the bases of different capture points:

Hello!

I created an itch.io page for Wizard Wars where I have some new devlogs. Check it out here.

this looks like a really cool concept, actually. Makes me think of Hearts of Iron but with zombies

Thanks for your reply! Hexen was in fact one of the inspirations for this game. I won't have a playable test for a while, but I'm planning on posting more devlogs soon.

Thanks for your interest! As of right now, I'm planning on making my own soundtrack, but if I need music for this or another game I'll let you know.

Devlog #1

Wizard Wars is a game about 1-2 months in the making. The original idea for the game was to have the fast-paced combat of games like Doom and Quake in a fantasy setting similar to Legend of Zelda. I got started on the first iteration of the game, and the farther I got into it, the less fun it was to play:

  •  Player movement was extremely limited, as you could not jump and you went extremely slow
  • The level design was boring, due to limited movement
  • And the weapons and enemies were not very diverse.

Here are some screenshots from the original iteration:

I ended up scrapping that version and decided to completely re-make the game from scratch, but using most of the art I already had from the first iteration. Here's some improvements I made in the second iteration:

  • More freedom in player movement. The player can now jump and move quickly.
  • 5 different weapons, which are:
    • Sword: A basic melee weapon with little damage
    • Training Wand: A ranged weapon that throws small green fireballs. It does the same amount of damage as the sword, but is more versatile.
    • Staff of Ice: A ranged weapon that rapidly shoots ice particles. Does a significant amount of damage.
    • Staff of Fire: A ranged weapon that shoots a wave of fire. Does significant damage as well.
    • Vanquisher: A ranged weapon that throws out green skulls. Does the most damage
  • More realistic terrain, using the Heightmap Terrain Asset found in Godot's asset store. In the first iteration, I used a gridmap for everything, but in the second version I used a gridmap only for buildings.
  • Open-world level design, the player can choose which levels to complete and when.
  • More comprehensive lore, explained in this document. (NOTE: Not everything in this document will be added to the final game)

Here are some screenshots for the current iteration I'm working on:

True, I just used move_and_collide() because the characters moved faster and it was easier to implement at the moment.

Well done! Some of the levels were slightly frustrating, but I like the idea and theme of the game. Playing the game kinda made me hungry for a hamburger...

Stranded on Earth: https://skullzrawk9.itch.io/stranded-on-earth

Stranded on Earth is the very first game I made within a 48 hour time period for the GMTK Game Jam 2021 (well, for me more like only 1 day and 3 hours due to work and stuff happening at the same time as the jam).

The basic premise of the game is that you the player, are an alien being that can control three bodies. Your ship crashed on a planet (Earth) and you must find your ship and escape with all 3 bodies.

You can play and rate the game right here:

Right now, it's kind of short, but if this game makes it into the top 100 I might make an expanded/post jam edition.

Enjoy!

I really like this game. The controls are easy, and the mechanic of picking up different enemies makes it fun. Good job!

When I first played, I didn't read the tutorial, and thought "How does this fit the theme? It's just a generic space shooter". The second time around, I actually read the tutorial, and was like ":O I get it now! That's so cool!".  Really cool game! Good job!

With a bit of polishing, I think slither.io is going to have a new rival. Cool take on the theme where the fruit you collect to make your snake bigger is also the enemies. The attack seems to be a bit fiddly, but otherwise well done!

Fun game! I like how the story behind it explains the mechanics. Can't wait to see more levels!

I see

This game is a modern classic.

I love the storyline, the gameplay, and the controls. The art is also fairly decent, I feel like there could be a wider variety of colors and the gun sounds feel a little washed out. Besides that, a great game

Is this game in the same universe as JJ's Space Adventure?

Yay! A game!
