Enjoyment + Execution 5/5: after you get the hang of it, it flows perfectly. I love games like this. While you do die a lot, the fact that you only ever lose 20 seconds at most stops it from ever becoming frustrating.

Sensory 5/5: the music puts you in the exact right mood, and the way the visuals are shown really makes you feel like you're in the same position as the alien.

Metroidvania 5/5: no notes.

Relevance 5/5: everything is minimalist. The gameplay, the controls, the visuals. Everything.

Enjoyment 4/5: while I really loved the way the game felt and especially loved the shooting ability with the deflection, the lack of coyote time made platforming very frustrating and very unforgiving.

Execution 4/5: the game is very well made, just a little rough around the edges.

Sensory 4/5: the atmosphere and visual style is just simply perfect, and the eerie rumbling ambience uplifts it to a whole new level. The only problem was the game being zoomed out so much made it hard to enjoy these things.

Metroidvania 5/5: classic metroidvania things. You're left to your own devices and there's gates with ability requirements and all that good stuff.

Relevance 5/5: the whole thing is in one screen. What more is there to say?

Enjoyment 3/5: While the gameplay itself and the concepts in it were pretty enjoyable, everything felt unintuitive, and it usually took a while to understand basic uses for things. There's also some things that are only really vaguely connected, like the concept of the white platforms clearing white barriers, which took me a while to try.

Execution 4/5: Quite solid. The game achieves what it sets out to do, though it's a bit rough around the edges.

Sensory 3/5: While the visuals looked good and cohesive, most of the actions you can take in the game lack feedback and thus feel underwhelming.

Metroidvania 4/5: While the paths can be direct, it's a classic metroidvania through and through.

Relevance 4/5: It definitely fits conceptually, although its kept from being a 5 due to the fact that the game itself doesn't show it much, rather the description and some limited subtext.

Enjoyment 5/5: the animations and attention to detail were immaculate. Like, cmon, you drag your hand against the wall if you get too close. It felt fun to even just walk around in there. The atmosphere was just, chef's kiss.

Execution 5/5: well, you succeeded in what you set out to do. 320kB is actually insane. I have made text-only games that take up more storage than this thing.

Sensory 5/5: it has a very unique style which is pleasing and oddly calming to look at. You wouldn't be able to tell there's no textures in the game if you didn't get told it. The sound design was also amazing, and really enhanced the experience.

Metroidvania 5/5: hits all the bells and whistles for a metroidvania.

Relevance to the theme 5/5: 320kB

Enjoyment 4/5: the game was overall quite fun to play. It was engaging, and it kept me in a flow state the entire time. The only thing keeping it from a 5 is personal preference.

Execution 5/5: it achieved exactly what it set out to do and didn't fall short at all.

Sensory 4/5: it's very pleasing to look at and keeps a consistent, nice-looking style, though it can be harsh on the eyes after a while.

Metroidvania 5/5: no notes. If you reduced the genre itself down to the bare minimum, you'd get this.

Relevance to the theme 5/5: the game could not be any more minimalist without it suffering.

Enjoyment 3/5: while I REALLY wanted to love this, there were several issues that tanked it completely - the game-breaking bugs mentioned in the execution section. I love how the attacks form a fluid combo and how flow-ey the fighting is. That said, the enemies felt interchangeable and didn't present unique challenges.

Execution 2/5: when I first started the game, this was sitting at a solid 4. The only reason it wouldn't be a 5 is because when I was playing, my mouse was not locked into the window, and kept dragging over to my second monitor while I was fighting, which caused several issues. I also had to manually reset it to the centre every few seconds. However, when I unlocked the dash, pressing E did nothing. Upon restarting the game, I found that choosing to continue instead of make a new game would freeze the program, meaning I had no choice but to restart. I left off here.

Sensory 5/5: the game looks absolutely gorgeous. The retro pixelated environment fits perfectly with the vibe, the music, the sound effects, and even the way the character looks. Combat and movement both felt responsive and controlled, very graceful.

Metroidvania 4/5: fairly standard metroidvania. The only thing that keeps it from being a 5 is because it felt like there was usually only ever one direction to go, so it didn't feel very non-linear.

Relevance to the theme 4/5: the retro style combined with the clean environments made the game's visuals add up to more than the sum of their parts, which is very impressive.

Overall, I wish I could have enjoyed this more. I'd absolutely have another go if the bugs were fixed.

I appreciate any and all feedback, including yours :3

I wasn't able to get very far, but here's what I have to say:

- The sound design was incredible, though the landing sound effect could use some variation to avoid fatigue. It gets old fast.
- The visuals are absolutely insane. Genuinely amazing.
- I like the idea of the slow, methodical moveset in theory, but in practice, it felt clunky. This would have been salvageable if not for the fact that you teleport to your last checkpoint every time you fail a jump, which, when combined with the slow movement, made it extremely difficult to reach any kind of flow state.

Overall, awesome idea, looks and sounds great, but the execution needs work.

Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed it, and thank you for the feedback :3

And don't worry, the thing on the generator is just a sneaky lil easter egg. Someone had a game they coincidentally called REVISIONARY, so we decided to add easter eggs to each other's games since the names were so similar.

Edit: check the title screen after interacting with it. Trust me.

Ahhhh, fair

The character looks like a protogen

protogen?

Ohhhh. That's a really interesting concept! You should definitely develop a full version sometime, I'm sure it would turn out great :3

Thank you for the feedback! If you want to give it another go, try turning on the 'Toggle Permanent Echo' setting. That should help if you're having trouble with the echolocation :3

Also, on the topic of the items, they play a certain sound if you use them on either nothing or the wrong thing. A different sound effect other than that one should play if you successfully interact with something.

Absolutely loved everything about this.

Sound mixing was quite harsh. The game also lacked polish, but not enough to take away from the experience. That aside, I absolutely loved the way the theme was implemented here, and it looks absolutely gorgeous and plays like a charm. Not much else to say, I enjoyed this. That said, this really didn't feel like a metroidvania.

Overall, it felt charming but I couldn't really see the relevance to the theme and it was pretty confusing.

Loved the style. It looked and sounded very charming. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to find any way to progress beyond surface-level areas and the game all around doesn't seem to have much beyond what its title suggests.

dude. you are my spirit animal

Hehe, thanks! We're planning to develop the game proper from here, we've got a lot of ideas stashed away :3

Thank you! We've got some pretty big plans for once we can get some art going. Though, admittedly, the game might have been a bit out of place for this jam - most of the entries are very lighthearted.

Indeed.

Oh my god a protogen.

Oof sorry. We already have an artist. I'll let you know if we ever have an opening though.

Hi! We need an artist! You do have to be able to animate characters. We also need someone to do background art. (can be a separate artist for the characters, or the same one. Either way is fine!)

Our programmer has 5 years of experience, and I'm told they write their own engines.

I'm the composer! Here's my Soundcloud (although I haven't posted any of the songs that will be in the game yet):
