While it strays a bit from the ambient side, I think it was a beautiful track. You're definitely skilled at writing for piano (or improvising if that's what you did). Though, I couldn't really see how the theme was represented. While it works with your story, the goal of the jam wasn't to build your own story, but to picture the painting and theme.
Loved the contrast between the 2 sections, though I don't think that choir was necessary.
Besides that I do have to give good points in the composition, mixing and listenability categories because of the sheer quality of the track. Great job !
While I do like the instrument choices, I think the composition is way too random : the main lead seem to be in a totally different tempo than the rest of the composition, and the whole chord progression lacks a direction.
The sound design is really aggressive both in timbre and volume, really lacks reverb for a track that's supposed to be ambient.
I did lack the section when the drums came in. Really meshed well with your ecological disaster scenario !
Just work on making your track more coherent, work on smoother transitions and I'm sure the track could be amazing ! Much support
PS : I hate soundcloud autoplay. Transitioning from an ambient track at full volume to Rage Against the Machine was not good for my ear drums lmfao
Loved the tense but chill vibe and the instruments ! You had great but simple ideas and it was well executed.
If I had one thing to say, it's the mixing. That stepping sound in the beginning, it's really invasive and doesn't blend very well with the track.
Otherwise very decent submission, although it is shorter than what I would expect. Good job !
Wow, absolutely loved this submission. The sound effect and the subtle strings made it very cinematic ! You managed to make a magestic soundscape with only a few
Although there's one big issue for me : you had a lot of beach sound design elements, crashing waves, seagulls, but that wasn't what the theme was about at all, and I think it's a shame because the track sounded amazing. I understand your thought process, but to me that just doesn't connect when you think of "the frozen waste".
Nonentheless, definitly a track I can chill too, 5/5 listenability, 5/5 sense of atmosphere. Good job !
This felt very free jazz-y and fusion, at least for the first part. I don't really see what it has all to do with the theme, it feels very out of place.
The second section had interesting ideas, though some janky composition at times as well as rhythm that don't seem much controlled.
While I do like your jazzy ideas, I'm not really convinced by your submission, though it is decently mixed. Avantgardisme can fit sometimes, but it's a rather risky decision when it comes to ambient works.
Much support and love !
The overall composition is great, simple melodies but work really well and mesh with the textures you chose. You also managed to keep ambient elements even in fast-paced tracks, which is great (I'm thinking of track 4).
I had a blast listening to this ! Only problem is, your submission is 6:04 long, which is against the rules.
Nonetheless I would love to play the fictional game you were making this track for. Good job !
I see you tried to play with diminished chords to give that uneasy feeling from the painting, which honestly quite work, but I wouldn't say it was perfect, the execution of this idea seemed quite clumsy (maybe due to your lack of time). When dealing with unusual harmony it is better to spread it in small amounts, the contrast with non-dissonant harmony highlights the dissonant moments and actually enhances the uneasiness.
Other than that, great instrument choices, though I would've liked to see the idea be developed a little bit more.
I hope you manage to get the opportunity to make more time for the next jam !
I liked the originality of the instruments you choosed. It ended up fitting pretty nicely.
Composition a bit janky at times, there are chords that don't mesh well with each other, and the melodies do seem random, both in harmony and in timing.
Mixing wise, I find the balance a bit uneven , for instance the piano in the first part being too quiet. There are other occurences of instruments clashing with each other on frequencies.
Overall great sound design and ideas, but work is needed on music theory and melody writing, try to keep it simple and controlled.
Good work !
Really clean submission ! It's well mixed, easy to listen, and the guitar sounds are well executed ! I'm a sucker for dual guitar arpeggios like these.
I have two things to say however : first the drums seem way too simple for me, and I know simplicity is better than having too much stuff but it sounds like you're being very timid with them. Not only there should be something other than snare and drum, but it being the exact same throughout the whole submission really hurts the listenability of it. Bringing some change as well as additional percussion as ear candy would be relevant.
Second, the progression. The submission sounds roughly the same and it really lacks that progression, that tension building that leads to a climax (or a suspended ending), it's an important element even in fully ambient tracks.
That said, I enjoyed your submission a lot. I especially appreciate the use of irl guitar and bass, and I encourage you to keep building your skills on these instruments and using them for your music. Great work !
I think I'm going to keep listening tho this track even after the jam. Loved everything in it, the instrument choices, the mixing, the skyrim-like intro. I also appreciate how you guys made a balance between the rhythm and the sense of ambience, sounds dynamic but not too upbeat. The drums are especially well mixed.
I absolutely want to hear more from you two. Definitly the most game-ready piece of all (I know the jam isn't focused around video game music, but it made me think of one), and definitely one of my top 3 favs !
A nice, pleasing ballad ! I like your orchestration and your mixing was okay.
I think it's a little bit harder to immerse with this track since it's more upbeat and light than what the painting seems to represent, though that might be partially biased from my taste. The reverb and instrument choices are still faithful to the cold feeling.
I like the fact that you introduced a rhythmic change in one of the sections, but I think it would benefit from a harmonic change too. Usually when there's a change in pace, it's met with a break in the harmony, you take advantage of the faster pace to have a more resolved progression. This may sound very specific because that's what I'm picturing, but tldr : don't hesitate to introduce harmonic change too, since the chord progression pretty much stays the same throughout the track. The tonal monotony can clash with the rhythmic diversity you created.
One last advice I'd make is to pan the orchestra's instruments relative to how they're placed in an orchestra. Widening the stereo range of the piano was good, but I'd have liked to hear the flute slightly leftwards.
Otherwise, that sounded pretty good, especially for someone who's not used to ambient work. Keep up the good work !
That piano on the track is beautiful and really captures the essence of wind, ice and cold at the same time ! The choice of having acoustic and metallic texture was a great decision and it helped the immersion a ton.
However, there is one glaring issues : the pad you put on top of it. It really invades the piano frequencies and its chords don't make sense between each other and seem totally independant from what the piano is playing. The lack of proper music theory application really put the track at a disadvantage to me.
Furthermore, the track sounds fairly repetitive, having only 2 elements (the piano and the pad).
I really look forward to what to what that piano melody can grow to with a simpler and more relevant chord progression !
Beautiful ! I love this sound design. The transition from meditative to oppressive is beautifully handled and I get chills listening to this. It gets a bit repetitive at the end, but that's not too much of a problem considering the track ends farily early. Would have loved to hear just a little bit of development though.
Overall the track was really immersive. Im excited to see what you will come up with in the future !
Had a blast listening to this submission ! I had mixed feeling at first because of the chords, which I think are a bit much in the sense that they sound like you were trying to do polyphony, however they started to make sense with the rest of the instrumentation.
The drums and bass are super juicy, well mixed, well saturated and the song progresses in a very satisfying manner. I love that unresolved ending too. The only thing that really bothers me is the beginning with those chords, they sound really odd without the context and it really impacts the overall listenability.
Otherwise, I like how you represented the oppressive and massive athmosphere of the painting with your sound design and time signatures. Sounds like a chase in the abandonned shipwreck in the painting.
Good work !

That submission sounded really nice, the mix is clean and the composition waorks very well. that lead fits the theme of ice very well ! I have mixed feeling on that kicked, gives me more indoor or enclosed vibes, but I don't know if I'm being objective on that detail.
I must also say that I feel like the tracks really lacks development, which would make the song hard to listen as time go by if you loop it. The initial idea sounds great, but there's not much more to it, which is the same because I really wanted to hear more of it !
Good work, I'm eager to hear what you'll be able to come up with in the future.
While the track has a lot of interesting elements, I don't find it faithful to the theme. The glitchy sounds, global detune, and sound design are actually pretty well balanced and coherent with each other, it creates a calm but uncanny vibe and you created a suspending tension that's really interesting. However as I said it does not serve the theme at all.
Other than the correlation to theme, I find that this track lacks some bass, some ear candy to make it feel whole. Without a bass, the drums feel parallel to the track, I think a simple electronic bass line would make a more solid rhythm section.
For the composition, I feel like your choice of using neutral thirds and your melody overall would actually work really well with some swelling pads of some sort, the chord progression is simple but very efficient for this theme.
Looking forward to your future submissions !
Loved that submission ! The contrast between calm and creepy really help its uniqueness. I was totally immersed.
I just find that the creepy pad coming in the middle of the song (transitioning from calm to creepy) came a bit too suddenly (a transition of some sort would help) and was super loud, not clipping but covering the rest of the song and a little bit uncomfortable to listen to.
While the mixing needs to be tweaked on this element, the rest sounded aazing and clean. That combination of creepy pad plus calm bell sound was a daring but fruitful choice ! Looking forward to your music.
Really immersive track ! Great sound design, and I love the desolate / defeated mood. The stones sound helps picturing the ice blocks and irregular terrain, overall I really feel like I'm wandering in an ice desert when I listen to this. Very meditative.
If I can add something, I'd say the composition's a bit janky at times, lacks a sense of momentum. Chord progression often feel unresolved and the track stays still while it could tell a story with the base you set.
I said "Aww man !" to myself when it was the end, feels like it ends too soon. The track could really use some progression !
Overall great track, love the ideas but I think you could think more about what story the track tells.
Cheers from a fellow french speaking composer !
Amazing track ! That sound design is gorgeous. I especially like those screaming sirens sound, and the mixing really makes it feel immersive.
If I had to nitpick, I'd say that it feels more drowned that cold, though it makes sense considering the painting. I also thinks it could have a bit more progression, like a bass coming or a chord progression sticking out after all that time drowning in the reverb-ed pedal point.
I'd love to hear more of you !
Overall, this track sounds great in its composition, the orchestration is really good and the mixing balanced. The whole thing is really pleasant to listen.
However, I have a few things to take note of : despite a noticeable effort to make the track sound in theme, a few elements makes it feel out of theme, such as many instruments. The track has way too many different instruments that aren't that relevant to the atmosphere, and it makes the whole track feels stuffed. Additionally, the rhythm makes it sound less ambient, especially the pizz.
The orchestration and composition is good, however the whimsy feel and the inconsistency of the instrumentation as the track goes on makes immersion difficult. If I had one advice to make : keep it simple.
If I have to end with a big plus however, it's the creativity of this track. It sounds like you had a blast creating it and this ability to generate and exploit those ideas in such a short span of times really is a plus !

Nice submission ! The track is really good at picturing an atmosphere. The instruments are great, the composition sounds good too and it's really immersive.
A few things however : the sound effects are a bit distracting, which is a shame because the mixing is really clean. I also find that the track lacks structure, in the sense that instead of a progression it seems like multiple ideas were glued one after another instead of guiding the listener somewhere. I also think you could've make it feel ore "icy" than mountain-like.
Otherwise, great track !
