Good tutorial.
However I was struggling to stay alive, because the cores for additional fuel came rarely and I found too little opportunity to both collect and not get hit at the same time. I think I might be faster by swaying the mouse left and right and then having LMB to shoot and right to collect. I believe that would have made me a lot more successful^^

Thanks a lot!

Not proud of how long it took me to figure out the controls, even though they are actually quite simple. However once I got the hang of it, it was fun to fly between the platform.

This is impressive! Cool concept, and a surprisingly detailed game. What stands out is how well you were able to make everything work with the mouse limitation

I got to round 16. I liked the music and enjoyed ramboing with my pistol. Cool little pistol spin animation too :D

I really like it. The music and everything felt so smooth. I also really liked how nice concepts were introduced. My favorite so far 👍

How come you think of frogs? Were the frogs coming from our itch.io profile pics?

First run I didn't understand because the opposite direction decreased. Managed after the second run.

  • I wish I could press the move forward button faster
  • The sense of progression is a bit low

Still, something like this I haven't seen before. I think this could work well in a point and click adventure like monkey island as a minigame!

Simple design and satisfying to play  👍

"What can I use to make the game? You can use anything: game engines, raw code, or even Scratch! Feel free to use AI too. Macro Jam is a place that is inclusive of whatever you use to make your game."

You can use anything :)

Other ideas:

  • Use APPLICATION or LIFE as an acronym.
  • A tool can many applications. Duct tape for example.

I asked ChatGPT:

Q: What are possible interpretations of "application"

A: The term "application" can have various interpretations depending on the context in which it is used. Here are some common interpretations:

  1. Software Application: In the context of technology, an application often refers to software that performs specific tasks or functions on a computer or mobile device. It could be anything from a simple calculator app to a complex video editing software.
  2. Job or College Application: In the context of employment or education, an application is a formal request or submission made by an individual to apply for a job, position, or admission to an educational institution.
  3. Practical Use or Utilization: The term "application" can also refer to the act of putting something to use or implementing a concept or idea in a practical manner. For example, the application of scientific principles to solve real-world problems.
  4. Request or Petition: In certain legal or administrative contexts, an application can be a formal request or petition made to a higher authority, such as an application for a permit or a grant application.
  5. Specialized Meaning in Various Fields: In different industries or disciplines, "application" may carry specific meanings. For instance, in chemistry, it could refer to the use of chemicals in various processes; in finance, it could refer to a specific use of financial instruments; in medicine, it could refer to the administration of treatments or therapies.
  6. Mobile App: In the age of smartphones, "application" is commonly used as a shorthand for a mobile application, which is a software program designed to run on mobile devices like smartphones and tablets.
  7. Versatility: The term "application" can sometimes be used more broadly to describe the practicality or relevance of a concept, theory, or method in a variety of situations. For example, you might hear someone say that a particular skill has many applications, meaning it can be used in different contexts or fields.

These are just some of the possible interpretations of the term "application," and the context in which it is used will determine its specific meaning.

Thank you so much for the detailed feedback! I am happy to hear that you enjoyed it despite the game still missing many pieces.
We both  also totally agree, that we should have prepared a browser version.

Hmm, that's unfortunate. It worked for Excendia who uses Windows 10 as well.
Maybe you are missing Java 17 on your system?

Even though this game is built on a very old idea, the execution is very good!
It is really well polished, which makes it very pleasant to play.

You must be a very kind person for doing this. It is very uplifting to get feedback.

While playing I noticed I really like ecology simulators. I want to give you some constructive feedback

  • I need some information on how to get points (for example in the description)
  • The bunnies movement is not transparent; they walk like really far from both burrow and nest (to explore?)
  • Some visual feedback would be nice, like when I get a credit point
  • The foxes wouldn't eat the bunnies and then died out, same with eagles
  • Allow me to let time run faster
  • cool intro animation
  • there should be some kind of feedback when game over happens (no credits and no life)
  • allow restarting the game without Alt+F4

Unfortunately for me there was no exit out of the first level.
