Hi there,

did you work on a polished version of your game? Tell me about it :)

-----------------------------

Like probably most of you, I'm working on a polished version of my game -Every Day Bug-.

At the end of the ranking I will publish it .
You can find it here: https://dinsaphir.itch.io/every-day-bug

The scope of the game is the same.

Based on this revision, I will work on Every Day Bug Part 2.
In this the puzzle mechanics are worked out and further puzzles are installed.

If you liked my game, I would be happy if you also play the future versions.

Best wishes,
dinsaphir

Summary
(This overview should serve as orientation, it will not be everything in the jam version)

You are playing a magician in training.
Your goal is to become a real magician of the seasons.
After basic training, you move to an orphaned place where the seasons no longer work.
The goal? Awaken the country from its winter sleep and bring the seasons back to life.

For this you have to use appropriate spells.
You need the right raw materials for these.
Some of these have to be grown yourself and some have to be found in nature.

As your work progresses, life returns to the country.
Animals and plants appear and people settle (maybe also mythical creatures).

For the jam

Overall, this idea is the basis for a full game.
I am planning a simple start for the Jam, which will then develop into the game described above in further steps.
The jam version will only be about changing from winter to spring to test the core mechanics.

  • Growing own plants
  • There should be raw materials in the world.
  • First animals (regardless of the progress of magic)
  • A small collection of spells that use the appropriate resources
  • When enough spring magic has been collected, the world should change from winter to spring. I would very much like to implement this point. This would make the jam version feel like a small game with a real goal.

The world will be rather small, just big enough to test all the mechanics of the jam version.

What am I using?

I work with the RPGMaker MV and therefore with JavaScript.
The maker already comes with a good resource collection, so I don't have to start from scratch here. I will use GIMP to revise the graphics.

1. Hi everyone, I'm dinsaphier -short just din.

I am 29 years old and have studied computer science.
Oh yeah, I'm not sure, what else to say, but I'm open to questions :)

2. This is the first time I am joining this jam :)
As a beginner in game development, the idea of the jam appealed to me a lot.
Here it seems to be primarily about learning together and that is exactly what motivated me to participate.

3. Puu, the list is too long to list here in detail: D
Gothic, HarvestMoon, Zelda, Final Fantasy, to name those that come to mind spontaneously.
And yes, these games are the reason for my passion for video games: D
Even as a child, I thought about what would be possible at the games and dreamed of creating it at some point.

4. Before this year, I didn't do anything like that.
But that's exactly what I want to change this year: D
I just recently participated in my first jam. In this I created a puzzle game.
That is my entire experience in game development: D
I use the RPGMaker MV because it is a good introduction to 2D game development.

5. I love books and video games: D
In fact, I always write little stories. But I haven't published a single one yet.
Otherwise I like pixel. Although I still have a lot to learn here :D
That's why I chose 2D games and the RPGMaker.

6. I would like to deepen my knowledge of how to use RPGMaker.
Writing my own scripts in JavaScript.
I would like to integrate a daily routine into my game and give the characters an individual daily routine.

Hello everyone,

this is also my first game jam :)

Call me crazy, I built my first game in this jam, pretty much without any experience with the used engine and programming language: D

But to be fair it should be mentioned that I studied computer science. So logical thinking, programming and the functioning of computers are not foreign to me;)

For this year I have set myself the goal of really building a game. As an absolute beginner, I decided to use the RPGMaker. It offers exactly the right start for me in 2D game development.

Jua and pretty much with this knowledge I started here: D

At first I was really unsure whether I would be able to get anything done, let alone something that reminded me of a game.

After all, I had an idea right away. When I heard the announcement of the topic, I immediately thought of the first bug found in the history of computers. In case you don't know, the first bug was really a living bug :D
This thought gave me the idea for my puzzle game.

I (unfortunately) didn't use the Discord. At first I didn't dare and then I found a good group to share in the RPGMaker forum :)

For me, the jam weekend was divided as follows.
I had to work a long time on Friday. But I found the time to put my rough puzzle idea on paper and so I had my concept.
In the evening and at night, I then followed some tutorials to get used to the engine.
Saturday was a wild ride.
I designed graphics, wrote scripts, created maps, built the puzzle mechanics etc. It was always a try and error, but with every problem I solved it got better.
Sunday morning I had other things to do outside of the jam. I then used the afternoon and night to add more levels, fix bugs and build the itch side.

On Monday morning I was pretty tired but also proud that I did it :)

Even though I had extensions in mind for my simple puzzle idea, I stayed with the basic idea. I suspect that's why I got this game done. I was able to really concentrate on the core and implement it.

When I read the comments on my game, most seem to like the puzzle. I myself don't like to play it again right now, I've done it soooo many times to remove all the wrong solutions: D

Today I finally found the time to work on the polished version.
For starters, I'm just going to revise the content that's already in the jam version so the foundation fits.
After that, I definitely want to expand the puzzle element, because I have a few ideas for extensions that I would like to test.

As an an example:
If you turn one part, it rotates another.
Some parts only conduct the current of a certain color.
The 3x3 parts are not specified, but you have 9 loose parts that you have to arrange and rotate yourself.

If you have any suggestions, let me know.

:D ah ok, thanks

Maybe this is interesting for you.

I looked around for more jams. When I played your game, I immediately thought of this one :)

Thanks, I'm gald you enjoyed it :)

Thank you very much.
I am planning a polished after jam version of the game so that I can invest more time in the graphics, among other things :)

Can you tell me what it is that you didn't like?
The chibi look (big head, mini body) is also not my favorite and is a point that I want to change.
If you have an idea, I would be very happy to hear it :)

You are welcome.
Played it again an adjusted my rating. The sounds are fantastic :D
Yes, this is one of my favorite games.

Wow great game.
Unfortunately, I didn't have any sound. Games on Mac / Safari. Will test it again later with Windows :)

Even without sound, the game is one of the best I've played in this jam.

The game was a lot of fun: D
The idea is great and I think it really has potential for a full game.

Nice idea and fun game.
I keep dying form enemies spawning but it is fun to play
Great work :)

In comparison, I find the music too loud or the sound effects too quiet.

I agree with Schmartin, a general exclusion does not have to be. I think it would be good if the original jam version is made available again. The instructions or the letter can be linked on the project page. I personally do not care whether the music is made available during the jam outside the game, since I only include what is integrated in the game in the rating ;)

Hi,

if puzzle games are for you, you may have fun with my game: https://itch.io/jam/wowie-jam-2/rate/552633

It's is a short narrative what happens around the very first bug in the history of computer :)

Just to inform you. I tried to play your game on Mac Safari and this message occurred.
I'll try it later again with windows :)

done :)

I chose the RPGMaker MV.
As a beginner in game development, I find the RPGMaker series the perfect introduction to 2D game development.
With a low entry hurdle and great development potential.  You can do so much more than just RPGs :D
As always: easy to understand, difficult to master: D

Because of this, I had to use JavaScript to write my own plugins.

Thanks :)
I'm glad you enjoyed the puzzles.
And yes, you are right, music and sounds in generell are important ToDos for the polished version after the jam :)

Wow O.o
Great idea, it's realy fun to play. For me one of the best of the jam. Great job.

Nice idea, I had fun playing your game.
In the long run, so round about the 1000, it would be nice if there were any changes.Other colors, sounds, objects ...

:D that is realy a cool gameidea and a great game.

It's a lot of fun to play and it's just the perfect level of difficulty.
It's a bit challenging without getting frustrated. Great work.

THANK YOU :D

You made my day.

To get such high praise is just great. Of course I'm proud of my game, but if others like it, I'm even more happy.

Neither did I until I tried to try it out. Sometimes inexperience is good because it makes you more adventurous.
I'm glad you enjoyed it.

Thank you very much. I'm happy, that I managed to made a game, that is, in a way, complete.
I'm glad you enjoyed it :)

Thanks :D I'm glad you enjoyed it :)

Hi, I couldn't  find Every day Bug in your list. Which should be in the "E" section.

Here is the link: https://itch.io/jam/wowie-jam-2/rate/552633
I'm not sure why it doesn't appear in the Windows category of the Jam, but there is a .zip for Windows to download.

It is a short puzzle game about the very first bug in the history of the computer.

I look forward to playing your game as soon as I'm done at work :)

O.o great game. I really had to think about the puzzles to find a solution. I love the challenge.
I haven't solved all of the puzzles yet but I have an idea for the next level: D

One of the best games I played in this Jam.

Wow what an amazing game.
The tutorial is on point an the puzzles are very creative. I had a lot of fun and hope for more in the future, great job!

Link to my submission: Every day Bug

It's a short puzzle game about the  very first bug in the history of computers.

The game is rather short, but I had a lot of fun writing the story and designing the puzzles.
I wish you good luck in playing :)

Nice game, easy to understand and hard to master :D

Nice game. I had a lot of fun. It would be good if you explained where to go when all the enemies in the level are defeated.

As a computer scientist, I had the story of the first bug in my head, so I just had to incorporate it.

I'm happy, that you like it :)

Thanks :)

Thank you very much :D
