You’ll notice the art I’m drawing for the game is amateurish. That’s because it is. I started drawing again like, three weeks ago.

Why? First, I am not, and never will, use AI generative art. A lot of my friends are excellent artists and I’ve seen the pain that AI art causes. One would think we’d build machines to do the tasks we don’t want to do, leaving us time to do things we like. Like writing and visual art.

Apparently not.

Fuck AI.

Secondly, I don’t quite have the money to pay folks for all the art I’d like and I don’t pester my friends for free art. That being said all of my previous covers were drawn by art I’ve commissioned and I plan to purchase real art from professionals for future books.

Thirdly, my beginner, childish art vibe kinda fits this game. So I think it’s the prefect place to hone my drawing skillz.

Finally, I’m having fun. I used to draw as a kid but gave it up after high school. Drawing again has sparked a joy in my life that I forgot I had.

So, while Orboboros won’t feature A class art, it will feature something that’s from the heart. I hope folks like it. Even if not though, that’s fine. I’m doing this for me!

If you want to see a true artist though, check out Xenotropos, she did my cover for As Above, So Below. She’s awesome: https://bsky.app/profile/xenotropos.bsky.social

The three most populous sentient species in Orboboros are as follows: Rablins

These are cute bunny people. They’re the RGB Trinity’s original ‘little guys’. They can jump very far and have very good hearing. They’ve gathered themselves in a monarchy ruled by a Queen. As far as Queendoms go, it’s pretty chill. Most Rablins are happy with their lot. Those that aren’t are free to gain fame and fortune in adventure!

Rablins came about when Jordan Richer ran Shift for CanGames last year. I loved it, but noticed that, despite their lovable mascot Risky Rabbit, there were no world sparks with rabbit people. I aimed to change that. Hence, the Rablins.

Goblins

Goblins were brought to Orboboros by DLD – Dark Lord Denisis, the RGB Trinity’s professor. They, and a bunch of monsters, were sent to stress-test the world. They were defeated by Queen Non and her Rablin Knights. The Goddesses welcomed the Goblin survivors as full people of Orboboros, and the Rablins made peace. They’ve been the greatest of allies ever since. Goblins can see even in absolute darkness and can talk to animals. They gather themselves in councils. Though their government is different, they cooperate fully with the Royal Rablin house.

The OG version of Orboboros (https://clovermouse.itch.io/orboboros) had Goblins as the main species. This was to make it different from the triangle elf game (https://zelda.nintendo.com/) that inspired my setting. Also, I find cute goblins neat. I’m glad modern D&D allows them as playable characters.

Mothmofs

The Goddesses were away for a time, and the  2nd Calamity struck. The Mothmofs were summoned by Mother Flame to burn Orboboros to a crisp. However, their Queen fell for the Rablin hero, and all Mothmof forces switched sides. They’ve been a full people of Orboboros ever since. Mothmofs are moth people, slightly taller than a Rablin. Yes, they can fly. They only have one city in the world, but show up everywhere in Orboboros.

Mothmofs popped into my head randomly. They seemed cool, so I thought I’d add them. They complete the trinity of dominant sentient species in this world.

Other Sentients

Ethereal Net Trolls send a lot of monsters to Orboboros. Those not stopped by the Goddesses wreak havoc. Though sometimes they’re just lost and confused.

Etherealnet Trolls are dicks.

Out-of-dimension folks who do not hurt other folks in Orboboros are also welcomed as full people of the world by the Trinity. While they might draw stares from Rablin, Goblin and Mothmof,s no one will, in a lawful community, harass them.

Orboboros is a chill world.

The game itself has further write-ups for Kitsune, Kobolds, and even Humans.

The average height in Orboboros is 1 meter, so Humans are giants, though they do have tiny eyes and ears when compared to everyone else.

I play a lot with religions in my settings: https://clovermouse.itch.io/as-above-so-below. Orboboros came out of a desire to buck tradition. I asked myself ‘What if the gods, rather than being imposing, sanctimonious, and jealous, were just… kind of chill?” That’s where the RGB Trinity comes from.

The world of Orboboros is based on old-school adventure games, so it makes sense that the goddess of its creation is Red, Green, and Blue, the OG pixels. It’s just that these pixels are also goblins, and divine college students whose first project was this world they created.

Red, Green, and Blue love Orboboros to pieces. The metaphysical engine (they designed) that holds its existence is placed safely in a spare room in their rented house. They love their little Rabblin guys. They love the newcomer Goblins, Mothmofs, and others as well. They take pleasure in helping them out and watching them grow.

The Trinity directly intervenes from time to time. Red has stopped earthquakes, Blue has stopped hurricanes, Green has soothed grieving crowds with calming dreams.

However, they’re neither omnipotent nor omniscient. While they’d love to banish pain, death, and all bad things from their world, they can’t. There are certain structures of the cosmos that they cannot change, no matter how much they want to. Accidents and evils do happen in their world. If an Ethereal Net Troll sends a monster who becomes a warlord, the Goddesses might not notice until he’s caused a lot of harm (1 day for them is like 10 years on Orboboros). They also have lives outside of their world; sometimes they’re not present, but they try their best to be available as much as possible.

The Goddesses ask the people on their world to simply be kind; beyond that, they try not to interfere. They want to see what the people build, not build it for them. They do their best to exemplify kindness and hope the denizens of their world emulate it. When people go bad and harm others, they don’t punish (they don’t send anyone to any hell) but are saddened at their little dude/dudette’s choices. They will inform heroes and let them manage these sorts of affairs. If other gods threaten their charges, however, the Goddesses will gleefully roflstomp them.

The RGB Triny don’t request, nor need worship. Of course, they like praise. They’d be heartbroken if their people hated them. However, even if all the people on their world turned their backs on the Goddess, they would still help, at least until they could figure out a way for Oborboros to function safely without them.

These three aren’t perfect, but their hearts are in the right place. Their kindness is at the center of their world, and makes it a place worth protecting.

Behold! Dice and Orbs!

(1 edit)

Orboboros has been added.
I'm adding art along the way.

(1 edit)

Starting Orboboros off at a game jam and no art price of $3 CAD!

After I add art and after the game jam, the price will go up to $10 CAD. Of course, those who bought the no art version, will be able to access a PDF with the art at no extra cost, when it is done.

Sorry folks,

I've been pulled into another project. I sincerely hope this one does well, though.

First part is finished. I've made a new character sheet for As Above, So Below.

It's not super pretty but should be much more functional.

I know what I'm going to do. Tune up As Above, So Below, then make a tiny supplement where it's about Angels and Demons in the CBC.

(1 edit)

Hi,
I'm Chall, aka Clover Mouse.

I am a Canadain rpg author who lives in Ottawa. I've submitted my Angels/Demons game, As, Above So Below to the Jam.
My work will come in two phases.

First: I'm tweaking my game slightly. Better character sheet. Changing the luck rules slightly. Slight refining of the miracle system.

Second: I'll make a supplement about Angels and Demons working in the CBC.

We'll see how far I get. I'll update here accordingly.

My go-to rule with attack rolls is whoever wins hurts the other. This goes even with ranged attacks. Two gunslingers fire at each other, whoever wins hits the other.

The only time a ranged attack wouldn't risk a counter-attack is when the defender doesn't have a ranged weapon to defend with.

If ya wanna see more deets, check out this blog post!

Wizard of the Jumble is totally based off Fairy Tail.

Here's some more deets:

https://www.clovermouse.com/post/what-i-ve-been-doing-wizards-of-the-jumble

That looks really neat.

My game has been submitted.

Onto my Second Draft.

I'm doing this:

You live in the Jumble. Innumerable worlds tangled together. Close by is a labyrinth forest filled with ghosts and giants. Beyond that is a tangled nest of solid clouds, where lightning laughs at passers by. Beyond that is a walking titan of stone, a living castle that is home to thousands. Beyond that, literal wine seas, a holy land built on platforms of fangs, and further on a land of masked thunder lizards and treasure. The wonders streatch on for eternity.

Most however, choose not to travel far. There’s stability in a town surrounded by walls and populated by friendly faces. A quiet life of collecting stars in a lake is all most need.

Not you. You are a Guild Wizard, blessed with power and charged with adventure. You’ll take on jobs that would ruin even the strong. You will travel. grow, and win friends. Your guild is insignificant right now but in time it will be the pride of the Jumble. That is, as long as you’re brave enough to step out that gate.

I'm tweaking the setting I created with Near Hallow Gods (https://clovermouse.itch.io/near-hollow-gods) as something for Ironsworn.

I'm also adding a high level of wizardy and powerful magic.

Expect:

New Locations (and Oracles)

New Assets

New NPCs

All with a wierd, arcane flavor.

I'm so glad you liked it Geana.

This is really neat.

I may use it for my next Solo RPG, after I finish my Troika one.

Thanks, Dorovich! I'm glad you like it. :)

I apologize, this slipped my mind.

However, I have added a sample. Feel free to download it.

Thank you so much for the review. It sounds the game works exactly how I hoped it would.

I plan to write more in the future, so knowing this format works really helps.

I'm writing a solo Bright Hammer adventure called Near Hollow Gods.
