I play a lot with religions in my settings: https://clovermouse.itch.io/as-above-so-below. Orboboros came out of a desire to buck tradition. I asked myself ‘What if the gods, rather than being imposing, sanctimonious, and jealous, were just… kind of chill?” That’s where the RGB Trinity comes from.

The world of Orboboros is based on old-school adventure games, so it makes sense that the goddess of its creation is Red, Green, and Blue, the OG pixels. It’s just that these pixels are also goblins, and divine college students whose first project was this world they created.

Red, Green, and Blue love Orboboros to pieces. The metaphysical engine (they designed) that holds its existence is placed safely in a spare room in their rented house. They love their little Rabblin guys. They love the newcomer Goblins, Mothmofs, and others as well. They take pleasure in helping them out and watching them grow.

The Trinity directly intervenes from time to time. Red has stopped earthquakes, Blue has stopped hurricanes, Green has soothed grieving crowds with calming dreams.

However, they’re neither omnipotent nor omniscient. While they’d love to banish pain, death, and all bad things from their world, they can’t. There are certain structures of the cosmos that they cannot change, no matter how much they want to. Accidents and evils do happen in their world. If an Ethereal Net Troll sends a monster who becomes a warlord, the Goddesses might not notice until he’s caused a lot of harm (1 day for them is like 10 years on Orboboros). They also have lives outside of their world; sometimes they’re not present, but they try their best to be available as much as possible.

The Goddesses ask the people on their world to simply be kind; beyond that, they try not to interfere. They want to see what the people build, not build it for them. They do their best to exemplify kindness and hope the denizens of their world emulate it. When people go bad and harm others, they don’t punish (they don’t send anyone to any hell) but are saddened at their little dude/dudette’s choices. They will inform heroes and let them manage these sorts of affairs. If other gods threaten their charges, however, the Goddesses will gleefully roflstomp them.

The RGB Triny don’t request, nor need worship. Of course, they like praise. They’d be heartbroken if their people hated them. However, even if all the people on their world turned their backs on the Goddess, they would still help, at least until they could figure out a way for Oborboros to function safely without them.

These three aren’t perfect, but their hearts are in the right place. Their kindness is at the center of their world, and makes it a place worth protecting.
