the game art style is great. So cute. I really like the idea. Is the anti-cheat thing actually true?

The game itself was fun (mittens was adorable), but I couldn't really grasp the idea. did something cause the boxes to drop? was there like a bar that I wasn't seeing. what determined the upgrades? All in all, cool game. I just need a better understanding of it.

awesome

I'm screwed as well then. I did the exact same thing at midnight the day it was due and kind of had to upload a Google drive link. it has been rated by at least one person, so it works at least. If you want people to be able to play your game at all, it's really your only choice. You either forfeit your ability to win, or forfeit your ability for people to play at all, also forfeiting your ability to win. Neither choice is great, but you made a game for others to enjoy or at least play. I can't make a decision for you, but know that you aren't alone.

Would you mind elaborating on the UI? I have made very few games and UI is something that I struggle with. The game was designed to be unforgiving.

I can't escape it. They're everywhere. My shorts feed is full of Bad game ideas. I can't stop it. They are overloading my youtube. send help. I watched a couple to rate the games and they just keep popping up.

This could go wrong so fast. People can just have their friends or alt accounts rate 50 other games as 1 stars then rate their friend's game a full 5 star experience.

It took me a bit to understand it, but I like the idea, sounds, and look of the game.

You're a genius

I was submitting the final touches on the game and made the mistake of deleting the old file before uploading the new file. I did this at about 12:05 (passed the deadline by 5 minutes) and lost the game on itch.io. I am attempting to allow other ways to play, but so far it's not looking so good. if anyone knows a way to link to a zip file that is about 50 Mb so others can download it, that would be great. I really want others to see this game, even if I've basically forfeited my ability to get top 50. Thanks for this oppertunity to make something awesome. I've learned a lot, especially about uploading files before deleting other files. I wish you all the best.

Thanks. I hope to make it playable in browser, but it takes too long to convert it and I'll just convert it when I submit the final version

Man, that was fun. I quite enjoyed that. I would love to see a full game with maybe things like upgrades and cool environments. That would be awesome.

I submitted it just in case it doesn't get completed in time, but I have the video and the game is playable. the only thing I need now is audio.

Watch the video if you feel like it. I want to turn this idea into a full game, maybe with asteroid mining or something. IDK. My little hamster in my brain is running, but with no destination.

Congrats to everyone who is managing to finish their game in time. I am super excited to see what amazing things everyone has created.

Thanks. Should be fixed now. It shows up for me.

It should be fixed now

The game seems to have a bug stopping you from placing. I will notify you when it is fixed

Sorry about that. I realized that I never told anyone how to play, while I was drifting off to sleep.

Wow. Thanks. I am currently trying to do that, especially with the deadline coming up. I have noticed that I work more efficiently under a tight deadline, so I'm glad it's not just me.

It's fine. You'll get it next time. Game jams are supposed to be difficult and push a developer to their limits. I considered giving up multiple times to go on to other, more exciting and less time consuming projects. I can't wait to see what else you end up making in the future.

Sounds cool, but you have like 5 days left.

I need to start my short. And, like, make my game work

That is great art! and controller support too!

I have not made a playable thing yet.

You got this. Even if you don't make what you want, you can continue working on it later, as you said. Just make sure to manage your time well and take out anger on, like, not people or your computer. I wish you the best.

I assume (potentially falsely, don't get mad if I am wrong pls) that you are adhd or something. if not, I don't know if this will help, but if you are, here are some tips. First off, create a checklist (in google sheets or something) that changes colors. if you get dopamine from drawing, draw out a checklist. for the google sheets, have anything that is not started red, anything currently being worked on as orange yellow, and anything that is finished as just green. if you draw, draw little flowers or rubber duckies or something but DO NOT COLOR THEM. when you finish something, color in the little thing.

ADHD runs on dopamine, so reward yourself with dopamine. I've heard of people who eat a chocolate chip when they finish something. a reward system is what prevents adhd burnout. I had the same issue earlier (link to chat here) and got some feedback. I wish you the best and can't wait to see what you make. If bad comes to worst, make a game you enjoy and publish it on itch anyway. Making a full game outside of a game jam is probably going to be better than making an unfinished game in one.

I hope my rambling helps some.

I honestly don't know how to fix corrupted files, but I would recommend, now that this has happened to you, whether or not you do end up getting it fixed (best of luck to you my friend), to use this as an opportunity to avoid the same issues in the future. If something happened before corruption, make sure you don't do that thing. If you are using any popular game engine, it probably has some sort of version control, so you can go back to files that existed before corruption. If it was code files, most of them have a history, such as VSCode, so you can go back to previous versions of those. I don't know much about corruption, but I do know that everyone hates it and tries to put safeguards in their softwares to prevent it or revert corruption. I hope you do get it fixed, and I'm excited to see what you end up creating at the final submission.

(P.S. 17 days left!!! I have done nothing!!!!)

An active ragdoll game where you have get outside of the box? Maybe like getting tools from other places in the box and hitting weak points? I don't know.

Ahh. That'l do it. I would be interested in see the said functional computer though. I don't do that much in UE5 (I work mostly in Unity), but that does seem pretty cool. Glad you got it fixed and I can't wait to see the final game.

I don't know if just linking the game is ok, but since you are working in UE5, it isn't a surprise that you have a large game. I would definitely try to shrink down textures as much as you can (those typically take up a lot of space) and remove anything that you don't use or intend to use in the final game.

You should also wait for Bad Ideas to respond and maybe (if applicable) ask this in discord, if you have an account.

Is there yet an end to Foward and Back Boxes? If so then I couldn't find it.

That is honestly exactly what I would do in that situation. Good move.

There is a strange bug in the maze (which I  finally managed to complete) where your mouse goes everywhere at random corners and makes you look in a random direction. I don't have any idea what could have caused it, but it's weird.

What is your idea, if you feel comfortable sharing?

The custom engine or something else?

The rules say PG-13 so as long as it follows that it should be good. Spite itself shouldn't be hateful language.

Also, the jam is called 'Bad Ideas Game Jam', so if anything in the jam is 'bad', it's good. Good is also good, but bad is good too.

Wow. You could probably teach me a lot. I am just now getting into game development and have only submitted one game for a game jam. I am making another game as a full project, but it is not at a position yet to playtest or publish alphas for.

Attached is a video of one final bug that I found related to the flashlight thing. the first part is me scrolling up too far, and second is me scrolling down. I don't think it's intentional, but it might be. It is a little laggy. I apologize.

Do you have a discord? it might be easier to communicate via that. If you do then I can give you my handle or you can give me yours.

Also, what do the green balls do? I tested them on some enemies and they don't seem to have any effect. Additionally, if you aim down and fire, you can bounce on the ball, and if you do this on a platform, the ball will continuously activate and deactivate the platform.

I did notice that the sticky walls were mostly fixed, but it does stick just a bit around corners, though much less than it did before.

I hope I'm not seeming annoying or anything. I just like helping. If I am annoying you at all please let me know.

You can not imagine how cool it is to me that I could help at least a small amount in the development of a game, especially in a custom engine. This is just awesome to watch happen. I wish you the best in the development of this game, and will continue to play it as it updates and gets bugs fixed.

I quite enjoyed my playthrough of this game, but I found a couple bugs that you might want to note in case you want to fix them before the jam ends. First of all: you can double jump forever. I don't think that was on purpose, but it might be. Secondly, going around corners or moving while pushed up against a wall is very difficult and you stick really badly. Cool game though.

I can't help with development, but I can try to offer some advice. If this is the first game jam for Junk Fighters (cool name btw), then read the tips below. If not, then I have no idea, but I wish you the best.

I have experienced a major issue before with a game jam for a game I was so excited to make. This game never saw the light of day because I submitted it too late and it glitched out. My first major tip that you should do regularly is keep a private version of the game of itch.io and re-upload your game every once in a while to make sure it works out of engine.

Second tip: make sure to pace yourself. If you have an idea for Junk FIghters that has the content of, say, Hollow Knight or Silksong, you're not finishing that in one game jam. You should flesh out what parts of the game you need for it to work, and do at least those. If you don't think that will take long, add a bit more content or small but cool things that just help the game work, but don't try to do everything at once, or you could fail and do nothing in the end.

Final tip: don't overwork yourself. This jam is a month long. that's plenty of time to make the first concept of a game, especially a bigger idea of a game. Just make sure that you continue to enjoy working on it and you're not turning it into a full-time job, otherwise you risk burnout. Pace, take breaks, and try to do other hobbies regularly to keep the enjoyment of the game going. It might seem counter-intuitive to work less on something, but less is more in this case.

TLDR: Keep a version of the game on itch, do the minimum content that you need for the game to work before going on to smaller things that just make it better, and pace yourself to avoid burnout. Game jams are not supposed to be easy, but they do work well as a motivator.
