Notes (optional)
Here is my submission. A QOL update will come somewhat soon, but for this version that I made in like 4 days I think I did it pretty decent.

That is one FAST fish lol! Getting used to the fish's speed was annoying at first but ended up being part of the fun. It feels great easily doing jumps that I was struggling to do before. :D I could totally see this game being a good game to speedrun! As I was working my way through the levels (dying 10000 times while doing so hahaha) I found myself gradually discovering new shortcuts which was cool! :D Awesome game, great work! :DD

Developer

Glad you got all of that out of this game! Thanks for playing!

The game was sometimes frustrating, but I couldn't stop playing! The snappy jumping and fast running felt hard to control at first, but it made me want to master the controls. Liked it a lot!

Developer

This comment makes me especially happy. Sorry that it was partially frustrating, but it’s cool how much you enjoyed the controls otherwise. I believe this game was definitely made with mastery of the game over time in mind, so it’s neat that you got that out of this game. Thanks for playing!

It feels like frustration was part of the vibe! Lots of good games are frustrating but keeps you playing.

I liked the platforms with a Mario 2 inspirations. The pace is really fast for me (I'm not good at platformers), I usually had to die a few times to see what was next. But it's hard to have a well balanced platformer in a game jam.

Developer (1 edit)

Yeah, the game is intentionally fast, and I probably wouldn’t recommend it to anyone who’s not skilled at platformers (though I’m saying this as someone who’s somewhat eh at platformers myself :P). I definitely agree with the last sentence. In a future update I might zoom out the camera so you can see ahead, as I said to another commenter who also put the camera as an issue for them, and hopefully take the time to balance out the levels to better accommodate the player’s speed. Thanks for playing!

A little bi too fast on my PC for some reason (extremely hard to play), but really good level design and overall, great job completing the game :) Keep at it!

Developer (1 edit)

The game itself is intentionally fast, though I’m curious if it’s because of the game I designed or if it really is faster on your PC. If it’s at all possible, It’d be cool to see a video of you playing the game just to check. Glad you liked it otherwise, though. Thanks for playing!

Pretty simple platformer. I find some of the deaths the game's fault when the fish is getting stuck on ledges and things, and it is pretty frustrating due to that. The level design is probably the best aspect of the game, but I think you can sit down and tighten up some of the jumps more there as well. One of my main issues of the game is, well, all it takes is replacing a few sprites and  the the game would really have nothing to do with fish at all.

Developer(+1)

Ah, I see. Yeah, I am having the same issues with the fish getting stuck whenever I playtest. I feel like that might (at least partially) have to do with some weird collision stuff that might have been my bad as well as some general gamemaker wackiness. I also get your point about the sprites. Perhaps the game kinda is just a speedy platformer with a fish skin now that I think about it. I suppose that even if I keep the core gameplay intact I should probably add more “fishy” mechanics and obstacles so that I can address this issue. Glad you somewhat liked the level design, though. Thanks for playing!

Hopefully next update, don’t worry

The speed is really high, and maybe the camera could be zoomed out? Good game though!

Developer

The speed is intentional and part of the challenge, but yeah it wouldn’t be a bad idea to zoom the camera out. Thanks for playing!
