How does your game fit the theme?
Its a 2 player game (but can be played alone), where one player plays as a door and one as a detective. The detective is the only player that can see enemies and objects, so the door needs to open the path and reveal whats behind it.

Did you write all the code and made all the assets from scratch?
All models except the furniture are made for the game jam. There are some textures, sounds and music that was not made from scratch. All assets used are credited in the main menu.

Nice Job, the core design of the game is good, the areas it could use improvement on are the asset sizing to make it feel more cohesive. you could also look at adding simple roofs to the buildings and toggling visibility on and off when doing the camera movements, over all though very nicly done for 1 week dev time.

Also i realy liked the split and joint screen view.

Really shows you how important it is to be nice to your door. It could just get up and leave at anytime and leave you trapped in a room!

The world needs more doortectives. This was a lot of fun, even playing it alone!
Is doortective laughing or groaning at the door puns? Or maybe it's a sigh of resignation? It wasn't super knobvious🚪

Nobody knows what's happening behind closed doors ;)

What an amazing game, I see a lot of potential here!

I find the game mechanics very intriguing. There are never enough local co-op games to play, and this one has all the potential to be super fun! I've played it alone for now, but I definitely want to replay it with my wife to see how strong our marriage really is.

I had a lot of fun exploring the different levels and discovering some small easter eggs, like the pink cat, although I didn't quite understand what to do with it. The story is simple but entertaining, and in my opinion, puns with doors and detectives are never enough! The characters are also very charming.

I do, however, want to express a criticism on some things that I believe could be improved. Firstly, there are some glitches. The ones I found most annoying concern the camera; while the transition from single screen to split screen is very cool, sometimes it doesn't center the characters properly, and you have to proceed somewhat blindly. This also happens when entering walls, it happens that the camera stop tracking Door. Another issue is that I encountered a softlock while trying to enter a row of walls consecutively with both characters. The detective got stuck in the wall and couldn't get out in any way.

I like the overall graphic design, but I would have preferred a clearer color code. I understand that, in general, brown is for doors, pink is for the detective, and blue is for both, but many elements end up blending together, such as traps, enemies, furniture, and buttons. I think by standardizing the colors a bit, you could have a better visual impact.

The last thing concerns the presence of stealth elements. I'm not a big fan of stealth games, so my opinion might be a bit biased, but I feel that it's the weakest part of the gameplay, at least in the way it has been implemented. Passing through a wall and finding an enemy in front of you is quite frustrating. Furthermore, it clashes a bit with the puzzle parts, which are well-executed and interesting. Puzzles and stealth test two very different player skills: logic on one hand, and quick reflexes on the other. Finding the right balance isn't easy. Especially in the last level, I didn't like having to start all over again because an enemy spotted me when I had already completed some puzzles.

Lastly, I apologize for the wall of text, but I really enjoyed the game and wanted to share a few extra thoughts on my reflections about it XD Congratulations on the excellent work, and thank you for your submission!

Thank you for playing and the constructive feedback :)

I will definitely fix the camera in future versions, sometimes the code determining the direction bugs out and switches the cameras around resulting in the issue you are having.

Also the bugging in wall mostly happens in the web build, Godot Physics seem to be a bit worse in Web Builds. You can still get locked in the wall sometimes, but that's also something we want to improve. We left it in as we found it funny to get your friend trapped. Of cause getting fully stuck was always a bug. We will probably teleport the detective out of the wall when the door will leave, probably same direction to make it control more solid.

Also the stealth mechanics will be improved, probably we'll do some parts in the map with pizzles and some with trying to get around enemies. With checkpoints in between. We just haven't had enough time to build a lot of puzzles and to make the game a bit more difficult we added enemies as they fit the story.

Thanks again for all the feedback!

Super unique gameplay, it's like The Lost Vikings but 3d and cartoonish, in a way. I really like the design of the characters, from the magnum fella to the door and the detective. Had lots of fun playing it. Also, nice dialogue between the characters. Great job!

Very interesting game! Every step appears in time at the right prompt, and I like it! When I saw all the doors in the town disappear, I burst into laughter, and my partner and I gained a lot of happiness! It's just that there is nothing wrong with my detective partner except that he finds it difficult when walking through the wall ~

Finally, I want to say that the cover of the game hardly reflects the interesting content of the game, which I feel very sorry for.(=^▽^=)

Developer(+1)

Yeah, the cover / main menu was the last thing we did. I don't really know any artists so I just did some basic stuff to fit in the time limit. But yeah, should probably be reworked some day :)

Detective games are hard. Good job with such little time on this.

Brilliantly charming. Such a great idea and I think you executed it well. It all worked so well together, I really enjoyed it.

I cant help but imagine what a strange world it must be to live in where your door could easily just leave you trapped in your home for the foreseeable future.

Great work!

That is just absurd! I am a door and detective and well both the door and the detective... Love the creativity. I am not sure if there was any sound, but didn't hear any?? Good job on innovation and theme 3.75/5

Developer

Yeah, there is sound but it defaults to 5% i believe. The game has music and sound effects, sadly we had no time for voice acting ^^
