Game's take on the theme
The usage of an “exchange” mechanic in CHROMASHIFT is two-fold. First, one can Exchange which of the six bosses they are fighting on a short cooldown; if you’re having trouble with one, or have absorbed the weakness of another, swap out! Second, the player’s parry can absorbed colored attacks, storing them for the player to fire later. Bosses are also weak to specific colors of attacks, allowing for one to Exchange attacks between bosses for a combat advantage.

Love the theme implementation, some bosses are a bit too easy (crab), and you could maybe add a sound cue when the parry is fully charged (probably just a skill issue on my part though). But overall It’s still a really fun game.

Hey there, I am trying to get other to re-submit their reviews for my game if possible...it was deleted and removed from the Jam on accident based on a technicality which was solved between the Jam Host and a particular asset used in the game...please if you have time, energy, and/or generosity to re-saved your ratings/reviews for the game. i had so much fun with this, i BEAT ALL THE BOSSES except green cuz idk why its locked, maybe its a bug??, i did not use the weaknesses of the bosses really i just held left click and gunned them down, it seems like the better option tbh, but this game is good!, can you also check out my game?

If the Shift menu reads it as "Blocked", it is likely to do with your current position on the screen. The Green arena has a large empty space in the center that you cannot shift to as it is open air. You'll have to be on the left or right third of the screen to properly shift there. Glad you enjoyed it otherwise!

Really great idea! Love the variety of how each boss feels! I figured out that each boss has a weakness but it’d be cool to have a clearer way of knowing that as I’m sure a lot of people didn’t know! Great work!

Exchange and weaknesses of the bosses are really neat and creative mechanic, but nothing really indicates that you can switch between bosses mid fight, so it doesn't give me any advantage) Boss portraits are good but can't really see them in all beauty in gameplay from top down look(

And one more question.... why crab? I've rated a couple of games already and cant fully understand why so many crabs everywhere...

But becides that, beat all the bosses, cool game!

Tis was great and well done,  I think the bosses just had a lot of HP but that's not the worst thing. 4/5. Great job!

Nice take on the theme! The sound effects were great and, together with the exchange mechanic, it really reminded me of Mega Man. I like the boss variety, though as already said by others, the red, yellow, and blue bosses were too easy compared to the rest, which didn't really incentivize the player to use the shift mechanic. With some balancing and some polishing on the art, I could see this becoming a really cool retro game!

Switching between boss while fighting is very creative "but" didn't feel like I have too, I just keep run and gun and done... maybe just need more impact ingame about switching part.

Incredibly unique ideas here! The concept of having to switch between bosses on the fly, rather than fight them sequentially, is an incredibly unique one. Unfortunately, I didn't find the gameplay to force the player into that mode of thinking as much as it could have. I found that the yellow, red, and blue bosses could all be defeated pretty easily by just strafing in a circle, and attempting to parry just opened me up to taking damage when I could usually avoid it. Making the timing of the parry a little more forgiving might help make it a more viable option. But there are so many cool ideas here, that I really hope you continue to iterate on it. Overall, great work!

Very novel idea, switching between bosses mid-fight and having your progress saved. I wasn't quite sure how that would help me, but I think the idea has a lot of potential. Nice job!

Thank you, and sorry you didn't quite get it. If you give it another shot, in the shift menu on the left hand side there's a button called "Assignment Information" that has some useful info in it when you hover over it regarding shifting, like what color bosses are weak to.

This may be the most original implementation of the theme! Nice bosses and great music, I love the use of color as the base of the game, great work!
