Just watched the Bigmode Game Jam recap on youtube... and while I haven't played this yet, looks great. Question for the devs, was this inspired by "Midnight Rescue!", and old The Learning Company game? because the dark building being chased by monsters (or robots in the case of Midnight Rescue) that you have to take pictures of is straight from some of my core gamer memories with that classic :D

Developer

Hi there, can't say that game was an inspiration. The team was mainly going for a resident evil vibe, as well as fatal frame :)

Needs an entire series, Needs more games. I like.

Very incredible entry, both technically and thematically! I hope this gets more ratings in the following period, because all of the assets, gameplay mechanics, and ideas that went into this were just insanely polished and interesting to experience. The mechanics behind capturing and fleeing ghosts while cranking your camera added a layer of stress that was really intense, and the perspective shifting was really ambitious for a game jam game. I hope I can see more things coming out of this concept in the future, and I can't understate how impressive the game is for its scope, design, and polish under the time limit.

Thank you so much!

the art, music & sound effects were super awesome and very professional. the camera being 3D is really cool and very well executed. the game itself is very well made and a lot of fun, i also almost soiled my pants, so, Great job!

Very nice game! Love the horror atmosphere and the visuals.
Always assign both WASD and arrow keys to movement!

Hey, awesome game! Absolutely love that it switched from 2d to 3d in camera mode. The presentation was very well done, and the snapping pictures of the spirits was very spooky and fun. Great work!

Although I dont make games for game jams I still wanted to leave a comment and say you guys did a great job on this. I really like the switching between 2d and 3d. Solid 9/10.

Brilliant stuff. Very atmospheric had a lot of fun playing it!

The intro music really hyped me up, then the visuals and mechanics were on point.

Congratulations on such a great entry! :)

Wow, this is awesome! switching from 2d to 3d is quite impressive!

Super high quality on this. I really loved the resident evil feel and the camera mechanics were super intuitive. It took some learning, but the tutorial helped a lot to understand what to do. The visuals and aesthetic were super well done (the filter you put on was super cool). I also appreciated all the sound bites, except the crazy stuff going on when you're in the van lol. Impressive stuff!

This is so good! You should make a PlayDate port for the crank action.

Awesome stuff! The dimensional switch really elevates the gameplay. The sounds effects when a monster approaches builds tension well. I kept feeling like my sprint was never reliable, though. Some indication of its availability might go a long way. Excellent atmosphere and execution of the concept!

The music/sound FX were great, the art as well. The switch from 2D to 3D is well made. The game is great but, interactables could be more distinct than other objects in scene, stamina bar or a indication of stamina level through animation would be good, and maybe once caught a jumscare animation would make it more scarier. But for a game jam pretty impresive and great game. Deserves more in my opinion.

Developer

Thanks for your feedback! We hid the stamina bar for immersion purposes, but it seems like it doesn't work out. Anyway, I'm glad you enjoyed it.

Yeah I thought it could break the immersion, so I think conveying it through animation state would be better like a tired state when stamina finishes, a recovery state when the stamina is recovering and the usual animation when it is full.

The design of the audio SFX in the intro was really cool. There's something creepy about switching from top-down to first-person which really added to the vibe of the game, and the core mechanic was cool. How'd you manage making 2D and 3D assets during the jam?

Developer(+2)

Sound/music guy here, glad you liked it! The switch to 3D actually happens at runtime, but you'd have to ask our programmer for more detail.

My favorite part is how it goes into 3D when you take pictures. You could make a whole game based on that concept alone. Fantastic job: original, fun, and kept me interested longer than most games in this jam!

I love the aesthetics and the mechanics reminded me of Fatal Frame which I loved, while the mechanics are great, I find some encounters to be impervious to the camera, I might have missed some key features, but I kept dying a bunch. Overall this is really cool :)
