This is a really really good submission but there are some things I think are good about it and things I think could be improved.
I think that the player controller could use a little bit more fine tuning, which I know is difficult with only 3 days, but what I mean is just kinda messing around with the values on it until you get something that feels really good. It is pretty good now, but i think it could be better.
I also think the seasons mechanic could be a little bit more clear, although I know you guys were trying to make a difficult game, so if that was intended to be a part of what makes it hard then feel free to ignore my opinion on that lol
The music is so good, probably the best I'll end up hearing for the whole jam that was made over the weekend. In that same vein the art is also fantastic. It has its own unique style that stands out as recognizable and looks really good.
Overall I think this submission is great and you guys should totally be proud of it!
Thank you ! Yes, we took all 3 so much time doing our thing (music, art and coding), that we spent very few time on the character controls. When we got something that worked, we jumped rapidly on the level design. We had a lot of discussion indeed regarding the passing of the season, and making it more clear would also mean more visual distraction and maybe something not enjoyable to play (difficult to focus with the background changing all the time too drastically).
This game is great. It is crazy that this was made in 3 days. I think I got a glitch tho, level 3 became impossible because I would always fall before the flower could appear, but maybe that's just a skill issue idk
Very very difficult game! But the music and the art is really good! So even though I'm convinced completing it is impossible this is still one of my favorite games from the jam :)
The music is an absolute banger. The game has a strong personnality, it's great. I love game that try to sync the gameplay with the music.
Gamemplay wise, the controls were fluid, but i think two things could have greatly improved the experience:
1 : I got stuck for a while at level 2 because i did not undertand visually that the bouncing platform were platforms at all, i saw a little bulb and thought i had to wait for it to bloom, but it never did. Having another design that conveys more that it is interactible like other flowers could be useful.
2 : While i love that the flowers worked rythmically, the fact that they don't open or close evey other beat forces you to remember the whole sequence of blooming and leave no room for improvisation. I'm not sure if it's intended game design or not, but it gets a bit frustrating when the levels get more complicated.
My suggestion would be to use the current asset for the closed boucing platform and use it a non interactible "currently blooming" visual that appears one beat before every flower blooms, that way the player can anticipate jumps and move more organically.
Yeah I think you are right. We wanted to make the bulb in a way that jumping on it and making it bloom feels rewarding, but the effect do not work as intended.
Regarding game design, we had a hard time getting ideas, and by the time we got this one, we had already king of lost one day, so everything is made on panic mode, or at least without thinking too much on anything and making it right away. We are still learning !
Well polished Music is greatest thing in this game, Coyote time and Jump buffer would be nice
Like other people said maybe a bit too hard, adding something like coyote time would be good, but other than that incredible game.
Music was fantastic, sfx/voice lines when you die are also fantastic. Art is pretty good, I like it. I liked the idea of the gameplay but it was very hard.
I got to level 5 mainly because the music and sfx kept me from being too frustrated haha. The controls could do with being a lot more forgiving like adding coyote time, jumping through flowers from below etc, but it's difficult to have time to add these things during a jam.
I think what could have been done though was much simpler levels that increase in difficulty slower as it was already really hard at level 2 haha.
I think the gameplay can be a bit confusing because I found myself trying to time my landing in time with the beat, rather than time my jumping. If that makes any sense. Like it's more intuitive to time your input to a beat than it is the result of your input.
Overall though it was a fun little platformer that I think has potential!
Difficult to me, but the music was fantastic ! Rare style in games, loved it.
