I played the game from the updated version, as otherwise I got an instant crash. Thanks for the day 1 patch, it would have been a shame to have missed out ^^
It turned out a little nice platformer!

This needs to be a full game!!! Really love what's here.

Thank you so much :-)

That was … extremely short (and also the jump felt a bit floaty), but – I think this is a really fun concept!

Despite the lack of SFX the platforms felt very satisfying to raise. (I think this game could benefit a lot from having sound-effects.)

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

Thank you for the feedback. Yes sound effects are definitely the next things to add :-) (ande more levels...)

Great usage of Squids template :D
Would love to see more levels!

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much. I haven't used a Squids template though. (I believe Squids is using only Lua, I wrote my game in Rust). But my assets come from https://www.kenney.nl/ and maybe Squids used the same assets?

Ah. Yes! It's the same asset pack and the movement felt similar. Makes sense!

Always love seing Rust getting used👍

Review: I found this to be a nice and enjoyable platformer and I could definitely see in the future if you continue making levels for this game that the levels would be fun to go through and enjoyable. I would love to see what other mechanics you could add to the game to increase the difficulty and variety in each level.

Suggestions/critique:
- with how easy the levels were it would have been nice to possibly see the water rise quicker or even have more platforming challenges.
- in the future it would be nice to see some sort of death animation for the mouse such as jumping up and little worry sweats on the head and then falling down to the bottom of the screen.

Overall great work and I hope to see more from this project.

https://github.com/jcornaz/play-jam-4/releases/tag/play-jam-4-submission seems to load on the device and start. Woohoo. You did not include a buildNumber in your pdxinfo, so anyone who tried it previously, it will not get overwritten with the new version. I locally edited the pdxinfo to make it work. I would suggest this pdxinfo that changes the name to be more descriptive, ads a non-zero version, changes the bundle id and updates the buildNumber (although since I changed the bundleId it wasn't needed)

name=LiftUp

author=Jonathan Cornaz

bundleID=com.github.jcornaz.liftup

version=0.0.0.1

buildNumber=2

pdxversion=20000

buildtime=753444725

It plays. It took me a few tries to understand I needed to use the crank to move the lift (the instructions are right there on github, I just didn't look outside the game :) ), but I think i understand how it works now and progressed a few screens. I will play and rate now. Congratulation on getting it working!

Developer(+1)

Thank you very much for the help and the feedback. I just updated the pdxinfo.

It's unfortunate this can't be played on device currently. Please keep us updated if you can create a build for it that can! I'm sure PossiblyAxolotl would be understanding and possibly let you post it again to have a working file.

I think I just managed to build it for the device. But I cannot test it because I don't have one yet... You can download it from  here: https://github.com/jcornaz/play-jam-4/releases/tag/play-jam-4-submission

sorry for the late reply but I've gotten your game up and running on hardware!

I couldn't get this game to run on the device. Ping me if you get a working version  up, I'd love to provide more useful feedback.

Developer(+1)

Yes, indeed. Sadly, I have not been able to successfully compile for the device yet. For the time being my game is only playable on the Linux Simulator :-/ I'll let you know if I eventually manage to build it for the device.

"Couldn't find pdz file main.pdz"

I was going to try building it until I realized it was built with a rust toolchain.

Yes, indeed. I realize not that I was quite naive in thinking a single export would work on all platforms. Sadly, I haven't been able to successfully compile for the real device yet. For the time being my game is only playable on the Linux Simulator :-/
