A great start: strong theme (cosmic horror western), and clear color palette (mono with a splash of red/magenta). Some instructions and guidance towards a goal would go a long way. I felt like a wandered a lot and couldn't really get my bearings. There were a few points I got stuck too (spamming attacking state, and falling). Congrats on your first game!

Was so exited to see a cowboy game in this jam, I love when cosmic horror and the wild west become intertwined!  Would have liked to have a reset button for my character, or a death sequence for when the character falls, just because I got stuck  falling on my first playthrough. Also, congrats on your first game, we hope you continue to make games!

Well done to you all on your first game and thank you for choosing the Cosmic Horrors Jam!

Great job completing your first game! Its a huge achievement and hope you guys continue making more and grow. I agree with most of the advice ilbini gave. I would also add by saying that you need to give the player more feedback. Sound effects for jumping and landing, visual effects/animations in response to player and game actions. This will give the gameplay much better game feel.

Keep up the great work.

Thank you for your comment, we appreciate the feedback! Sound effects is definitely on our to-do list we'll have to go steal Anthrophantasmus again and we'll definitely do more animations that's always lots of fun to make and gives our lil guy more personality.

Congratulations on your first game! I see you have implemented a State pattern to do the transitions between hero landing/air/on ground, great! I have just read about this pattern recently, actually, and I liked the familiarity I got in your game. The music is great, chilling and relaxing. Good luck improving this game, it’s a great start!

Thank you!!! Josh gets all the credit for that state machine, the rest of us are still learning but he did a great job. Really happy to hear people enjoy the music too we love it, I'll try not to export with a whole 6 min .wav file next time though :))

Hi, Good job for doing this for your first time. I got locked up in the Attack state after attacking and "killing?" the first hand creature. There was a spawned other player the first attempt down the steps at the beginning of the game. I hope you learned a ton and take some time to see what works and doesn't work so your next game is even better. Good attempt!

Hi there! Cheers for the comment. This is the first time we're hearing of someone getting stuck in the attack state so thank you we will go have a look that at. We have found out what was causing the duplicate player,  didn't even notice until it was uploaded which was pretty funny to find, at least we won't make that mistake again. Thank you for your kind words we really appreciate it!

We all start somewhere. I have some jam games that are broken like mad! Keep it up and apply what you learn on the next one. And after a few jams, you'll have a great solid foundation. I usually walk in a game jam asking "What's the BIG thing I'll be learning and exploring this time?"

This jam was acutally making full use of state machines, sprite masks, and trying to generalize my enemy code so it works for different enemies. Next time I think I'll dive a lot more with Coroutines in Unity since I should transition away from always using timers.

I just read that this is the first game you guys made so congratulations! I hope you had a great time doing it, doing jams like this is a great way to learn a lot by doing from my experience so keep it coming.

I could not finish the game, i got stucked the two times i played it in different places, first i fell through infinity and second i got stuck between some green blocks.

The best advice i can give you is to try to complete the experience you want to give players. For a first jam, first game, this entry is totally awesome but keep in mind that making something from start to finish is a huge of a challange here, even if its only one single mechanic and a really short game.

This project at first seems ambitious for its worldbuilding (even for experienced team i think), the place has to be huge to work out with the exploration and that leads to many assets and create cool spaces the player can go and dont feel monotone. Maybe next time, smaller better separated places, or maybe add more challange to move around (like obstacles or enemies) so the game dont focus only in exploration. Or try a smaller scope, try to think of the most simple game and try to make it to the end, there is a lot of learning there for sure in the polish and details.

Also there seems to be some debugging information and two playable characters for some reason, at first confused me a lot, i assume not intended.

The music was indeed wonderful so good job there, also the art i felt was nice seeing those screenshots in the game, but could not felt the same playing it.

Good job guys and congratulations for your first game! Thats the way to start, hope you can take something from my feedback, good luck!

Thanks for the  feedback, that's really nice of you to say! Yeah we had a lot of fun making it, its a shame we couldn't show everything we worked on but learning how to use Godot and then how to make and edit scripts is definitely more than a 2 week commitment in hindsight. We have figured out how to fix the two players, state machine showing up, and the green blocks without collision so we'll update that when we can. This will be really helpful for our next project and has been a great learning experience.
