What style of retro game were you going for? (Year/Era/Console/etc)
NES style, inspired by Super Mario Bros, with a super jump mechanic and you can throw coins at enemies because why not!?

it was fun! i liked the mechanic of holding up and pressing a button to fire coins, felt pretty unique and it was satisfying to kill enemies that way

Glad you liked it :)

Very fun. Little bit of a challenge while being approachable. There's a bit of a bug in the menu that is a third, invisible option, and that made me laugh because I thought I'd found a secret option lol. Once I figured out how the mechanics worked it was a pretty good time. Good work!

Developer

hahaha I forgot to fix that, I think you played the browser version, I had a hard time making that version.  I took out the full screen option from the browser version because it doesn't work there, Itch.io has a option for that, but I forgot to stop the "hat" from going down, sorry there was not a secret option xd, but now you know what it was supposed to be.

Aha I found the secret full screen option. Mystery solved lol

Nice game, looks really nice, but my only problem is sprite scaling. I know it makes the game look better, but ( because the game is rendered in a big resolution ) feels kinda off. But, overall, it's a great game!

Developer

glad you liked it. And yes, I just feel that I limit myself by using a square resolution like the old games, it was hard to design the level with a mechanic that allows you to jump really high and far. It doesn't looks off tho.

This was a fun little platformer, and what a very unique shooting mechanic! I wasn't sure if I'd receive a bonus at the end for holding onto my coins instead of shooting them, so I tried to see how many I could rack up by the end, heheh!

I really appreciate that the camera adjusts so you can see further ahead of where you're running.

The graphics feel very "programmer art," but it really works with the general vibe of the game and doesn't subtract from where it shines: the stage design. The platforming was lots of fun-- I really enjoyed the segments that utilized crumbling blocks and jumping off of enemies!

With a bit more variety in the stage mechanics, I could really see this turning into a great platformer! I hope you update it with more fun ideas!

Thank you, I'll definitely add  more stuff later once the jam is over, I'm actually working onit now, I have a lot I want to do.

You don't get any rewards for saving coins sorry xd, but you can keep them once you beat the game and use them in another playthrough(you lose them all if you close the game tho, no save system xd). Also I'm curious: did you find any of the coins and hearts hidden in rocks that you can break with coins? Or did you find the two parts where you can skip fighting with enemies by jumping on top of the walls?

Submitted

I look forward to seeing what you come up with!

Ooooh, there are skips? Kinda like the Super Mario Bros underground parts? And hidden items, too? That's some great replayability value! I'll have to play it again and try to perfect my run!

Developer(+1)

not like the underground parts of Mario, I wanted to add something similar,  but I didn't have time. In some parts you can jump onto walls where camerad cannot see you and go above enemies, if that makes sense.  Also I might have to add a time score system or something like that xd.

fun stuff!  I beat it without realizing I could shoot anything XD

Developer

hahahahaha I guess it was a good thing I didn't make it mandatory to shoot coins, the focus was the platforming anyways, but shooting makes some things eaiser. I wanted to add a tutorial, but hey,  games back then didn't have them, you had to read the manuel, which is the description in this case.

This is a fun little entry! Love the visual variety between the three levels, and the end boss is tough but fair! The mechanic of using enemies as platforms is nice. I'm a fan of the music too.

Overall I definitely enjoyed my time with this one. Great work

Developer

Thank you, I was worried people might not like the music I chose because it's a bit over the top.

This was pretty fun. The graphics are simple, but they work — I like that everything adheres to the 3-color limit of the NES, and overall, it does a good job of feeling like an early-era NES game. The 3 levels you have are easy once you figure out the controls, but are still fun, and the boss is a good challenge. The controls for shooting are a bit annoying to deal with, though, but that's my only major complaint.

Developer

thank you, glad you liked it! Yes, the shooting is a bit weird, I decided to make it "up+run" like  in castlevania because the coins can run out and I didn't want players to  waste coins everytime they want to run. also I have very few buttons to work with because it's a nes style game xd, I did what I thought would work back then. I'll change to a third button once the Jam is over tho.
