hi, rachel!

i absolutely love the backgrounds that you make for visual novel assets, they're really helpful, and i really appreciate the work that you're doing!! if it's okay, could i maybe request that you do more castle themed backgrounds? preferably the interior of one but exterior ones work as well!! i've been looking around the packs that you're currently offering, and there's a good portion that i'm planning on purchasing when i get the money! i just need more things to work with, unfortunately.

oh, of course!! the exact things i'm looking for are things like the dining halls, royal libraries, throne room, ballrooms, dungeons, and maybe even a kitchen! those are the main things that i'm needing for my project, although the kitchen background im looking for wouldn't be too medieval and would look a bit more modern like the one i attached!

How much do you charge to commission backgrounds? I'm a little confused about how your system works. I have commissioned backgrounds in the past and they usually cost 50 USD each, which adds up quickly when you need a lot of different backgrounds. (My next project will need 6 backgrounds, which I estimate will cost me 300 USD in total. With Paypal fees, its actually a little bit more than that too.)

Hi Korytoombs, Thank you for your message! I don’t have a commission system set in place. I was asked about a project with exclusive rights once, but then the person changed their mind so that didn’t really work out. I plan to set some system with clearly defined prices, however, that’s more of a future plan. I’m going on a hiatus now, I’m moving out to start a new job, etc. Regarding background prices you’ve mentioned, they’re crazy expensive. Not even extended licenses from professional stock galleries cost this much! Keep looking for options, perhaps, some freelancer who’s just starting out, can help you get them done at a cheaper price. -Rachel

Hi Rachel,

I hope you are well, I recently stumbled on your page and I'm in love with your backgrounds. I am in the process of creating a mystery visual novel set in a large city and I was wondering if I could request some backgrounds for a police station the main character works at. Specifically, I’m thinking:

A front desk area
An area with desks for all the officers
An office for the detective main character
A second office for the police commissioner
A holding cell (?)

These are just some ideas of the main areas I have in my head. Hopefully, this is something that is possible. If you happen to have any other ideas of your own please don't hesitate. Also, I'm in no rush so please take your time.

I wanted to know if an interior lab background could be made. Sci-fi, but space, more like a SCP type of thing. Something like your abandoned physics lab BGs, but "locked down". If not, I could mix and match some backgrounds you have in your space station and futuristic reality packs.

Hello Rachel! I’m not sure if you still do requests, but I’d love a brighter take on your cyberpunk city packs. If you could do some sort of solarpunk theme, I think it could be fun and I’d throw them in a lot of my projects. Futuristic or modern, but just with lots of fun greenery and plants everywhere would be really pretty :)

Hi Rachel, I recently made a VN with your amazing backgrounds. I wanted to request for a Martian Civilization background pack as I set my VN in a time when humans become dual-terrestrial and live both in Mars, like a totalitarian super human society and Earth. I loved your solarpunk setting for Earth funny thing. I was looking for just that, "nature took back Earth" kind of theme. Anyway, A Mars Civilization would be amazing, Im willing to pay at your price and let you have full creative freedom.

I’ve added it to the collection showcased on my profile. Regarding Mars Civilization, got it! I started working on this pack and hope to get it ready in the first week of October. One more question: would you prefer the buildings to be more monumentalist / totalitarian (large stone structures) or more modern / sci-fi (glass, bulbuous structures etc.)? Also, do you need some vegetation or prefer a purely arid landscape? Thank you! -Rachel

Thanks for adding the game to your collection, Im honored. I would want the buildings more sci-fi as its in a future date when humans settle on mars and in dome-like greenhouse structures begin to terraform the planet. So Artificial vegetarion perhaps in some aided capsule or dome like structures while the outside can be mostly arid. Also the atmosphere might have radiation so the architecture might need some kind of metalic or glass like finish to protect the humans living inside. The totalitarian rulers could have also built pyramid like structures as it has some conection to astrology and sulernatural power (Egypts pyramids are mysteriosly made) although they would probably use metals, glass maybe even refined man-madr materials like plastic or rubber to combat the radiation. Lastly Mars is very cold, like -64 C or at best -4 C.

Would you like the pack to be more colorful, filled with sunlight, or have more gloomy colors?

Hi Rachel! I just realized you had this little thread for requests right after I commented on one of your packs 🙈 I absolutely love the pack you made of the snow cabin in the woods but I'm in need of night/dark versions for them (and maybe even a version showing a snow storm from the windows but I can also manage without them, I mostly need night/dark versions for the cabin interior backgrounds), especially since it's for a horror-mystery game. Would it be possible? 💦 Of course I'll pay whatever your price is 💪

I also noticed the backgrounds are a bit bigger than the size I use for Renpy (1920x1080), will the backgrounds be cropped too much if I adjust them to that size?

Hi Prikarin, It’s fine! I get notifications for all comments, so, I managed to find the other quickly as well. Regarding night / dark versions, would you prefer the interiors to have colder colors and muted lights, but still look like they can be inhabited, or to have a totally dark / haunted look (and characters are only visiting)? I’m asking because, I have two possible versions in mind. Regarding snow storm from the windows, you mean, snow entering the cabin through the windows, right? Should the interior be covered with snow / ice, as well? If yes, it would be easier for me to make a new pack from scratch. But in this case - would you need day versions as well? Regarding image size, I suggest using an image resizer to make images smaller. You can use an online image resizer. I can also attach smaller versions to the download, it’s not a problem. Last but not least, I’ve just posted two more packs from the cabin series, one with a large cabin and one with a wooden guesthouse (attached below), perhaps, one of them will work better for your game. If you’d rather I made night/dark versions of those, let me know.

Hi Rachel, thank you so much for the quick reply! Regarding the night/dark versions, it'd be great if they had colder colors and muted lights but still looks like it's inhabited (do you think the wood's color could be a bit more of "dark chocolate brown"? Or would that entail making it from scratch?); basically it'll be the home of an ecology researcher (who studies the environment, plants & animals), and the MC will happen to visit them because their car was broken and they need somewhere to stay. As for the snow storm from the window, what I mean is more like a snowstorm showing on the window glass but still being outside, it wouldn't be entering the cabin so you wouldn't need to make a new pack from scratch hehe.

The large cabin in the woods you posted below looks really cool too and it'd certainly be nice to have night versions of some of the backgrounds there as well but I don't know if you accept double requests so I figured I'd stick to the request of the night/dark versions of the small cabin in the woods.

Hi Prikarin, I see. Sure! I can make the wooden surfaces darker, it’s not a problem. I’ll also recolor the windows so that they have a more “winter” look. Regarding requests, I accept all if it’s only possible for me to make them, so don’t worry! Feel free to request more packs / recolors. I know that game developers often neeed more backgrounds or work on multiple projects. It’s ok! -Rachel

Do you think you'll have time to do the night versions of the interiors in both the small cabin and large cabin in the woods packs before the end of the year? Hello. I love the designs and variety of your backgrounds and hope to use them in the future. If I may ask, would it be possible to make a background of a cruise ship port/terminal, like something you'd see for a ferry or cruise line? Also, what about a mental facility, not abandoned but also not exactly a hospital?

2. Day shots mostly, but could use sunset and night shots would be nice.

3. I would imagine there being a hallway lined with cell doors, one of a padded cell, a cafeteria & a doctor’s/admin’s office.

Hmm, technically I need both: a modern city with buildings (for a more US story) and a quaint little European town or village for another story. For now, I need the modern city for my current story, but I'm interested in buying both. ;)

Hi, I'd like to request some neighbourhood exteriors. Normal streets with houses, apartment buildings, cars parked on the road, maybe a small corner store or something. Something nice and mundane would be lovely. An asset pack of 6-8 is the number I was thinking. Thank you. No season preference but I'd like there to be trees and flowers in front of some of the houses to make it bright and cozy. I'd also love a night time recolour of the boho apartment and rooftop pack. Thank you. Love your work.

Allo,

Can you make a set that reflects an academy/institute type setting using either your baroque/portuguese/victorian styles or something combining them all? Where you have different offices of the chairman and professors, even a doctors office with bed for treating patients. Different hallways inside the academy and classrooms, maybe some classrooms where the desks are lined up steps with a podium below.

I'd prefer if its not to dark and not to brightly colored. More neutral tones. However the offices can be each a different color/style to reflect different professors keeping in the styles I've requested.

I would love to have a pine forest, please.

You have "The Dark Forest Pack", but I would prefer a fir forest so that it is compatible with:

-Winter Forest

- Small Cabin

- Wooden Guest House

- Wide Cabin

which all show conifers.

Thanks to that, I think the theme will be complete and I could do a whole episode in the boreal forest.

I would like the day and night forest please to go with the different cabins.

I also feel like the chalets are in the mountains, so maybe the forest could be in a place with a bit of relief or make a mountain pack compatible with that forest. I would take both.

EDIT : I don't need a nightclub anymore, thank you, just the forest.

Sure, I will work on a fir forest, and pay attention to make it fit those packs, and also, to make a day and night version with different settings. Regarding a mountain pack, that’s also a great idea! I don’t have one yet, I will add it to the requests list. As for the nightclub, got it, no worries. I will still make one in the future though, as I have received multiple requests for it earlier, and somehow, I never followed through (I kept forgetting). Hi Rachel! Hope all is well. If you're still taking potential requests for background assets, I was really searching for a pack that features deep south images (e.g. during the civil war, late 1700s -1800s). Places such as neoclassical southern plantations homes, crop fields, dirt roads. I found previous packs that feature cabins & forests that I could use but wasn't sure about the rest. Anywhere from 10-15 images would be perfect. :)

Hi Rachel,

I'm not interested in AI and will not be purchasing any AI made assets. I enjoyed the assets I purchased from you sometime ago that were not made by AI, but I can no longer download them as they have been removed.

Would you be able to reupload the originals please?

Hi Sailing Ocelot! Thank you so much for your message! Yes, I have removed the classical series, partially because, I felt that those backgrounds weren’t that great, and partially because, the stock websites that I was using to find royalty free photographs and vectors, have suddenly changed their policies regarding the permitted use of their stock. In the past (when I was making those backgrounds and releasing them), it was possible to use photos commercially in any way, but last year, licenses have changed greatly, and a lot of new rules were introduced. As a result, it is not possible for me anymore to use stock from these websites, to make backgrounds and GUI elements, for resale. Law doesn’t work back, but, I always strive to comply with all licenses and policies, so, I removed the assets using that stock, from itch.io, to avoid any potential problem. Now, this doesn’t mean that you cannot use these backgrounds and GUI in your game, you can, as it is still permitted to use that stock in larger creative projects, especially while edited. I just cannot offer them for sale here, as it would be considered some sort of competitive activity. It’s a shame, btw, that they have changed those licenses and policies. In general, this type of situation, shouldn’t be happening, as it is not fair for people that have already used that stock for different purposes. Unfortunately, I cannot do anything about this. I have checked what assets you have purchased by your email, and, I have re-enabled the old downloads. Please make sure to download everything today, and write me a comment when you finish, so that I can disable those downloads again, to avoid a situation where someone accidentally buys it. As a side note, one reason why I have switched to AI art, is precisely that, if you use stock from other sources, you always risk that licenses will change, while most AI art, is licensed as public domain, and public domain license cannot be revoked. -Rachel

To me know, if i make an OST from the game (where your works will be credited), can i use your background too for the cover ? I prefer to be sure, so it will be for december 2025.

Hi! I purchased your big game asset bundle and downloaded most of them but apparently the last few ones on the bundle page don't really have a download link. I'm being told to purchase them again. Are these not meant to be included in the pack or am I being silly? If you could please clarify this for me that'd be great. Thanks! (Oh, also they don't seem to show in my library so it's like I don't own them. They are listed as part of the bundle though.)

Hi MillaMagia, Apologies for the late response! I have been away for a long time and didn’t log in so I didn’t see your message! I’m so sorry. I know from experience that some packs were not included in the bundle, and since these are the new packs, I think that perhaps they weren’t added! Can you please double check if you own them as part of your purchase? If not, it probably means that they were not included in that specific bundle. If they were included, however, please send me screenshots and I’ll give you a free download link for them. It is also possible that you have bought the bundle before I have added these packs to it, that’s why you don’t have them but why they appear as a part of the bundle. I have also checked that the main hospital pack doesn’t have a download file attached to it, I will try to fix this as soon as I can! Hi, thanks for the response. Better late than never so don't worry about it! To further clarify, according to itch.io I don't own those asset packs I mentioned. Hence the confusion, because I saw them listed on the bundle page originally. So this is the bundle I thought I bought but somehow in my "copy" of this bundle these last 5 packs are missing suddenly. Now one explanation could be that there are 2 nearly identical bundles and I unknowingly bought the version that doesn't contain the packs I'm talking about. That would be incredibly nonsensical and misleading though as they are the same price even. I don't know how these bundles are put together or how all that works, so...

That said, I don't actually *need* these missing packs all that much. Maybe the hospital or the office one could be useful for me but it's certainly not a pressing matter. I was just a bit confused as to why the contents of the bundle didn't entirely match my expectations. So at this point feel free to ignore this whole thing, unless you have spare time and an overly investigative mind lol. The assets I did get are what matters and they are really nice so thank you for your work!
