I really like the concept of this game. I kept playing for some time, it reminds me of lode runner, in a way.

Not being able to jump can be an interesting design choice, but I think what kinda messed that up was the fact that building ladders had a very high cost and the controls were a bit confusing. For example, when trying to build a ladder higher than a pixel, I had to hold up + down because otherwise the positioning wouldn't work and the ladder wouldn't be built.

I also think the drill machine shouldn't be a one-shot. Maybe a very hard hit, but not a one-shot.

All in all, I think this has a lot of potential. The visuals are charming, and I had a lot of fun fueling the drill machine and watching it go as I gathered resources.

Thanks a lot for your review, it means a  lot to me because I am currently polishing the game (actually just restart from zero because a jam game code is kind of a mess xD).

About the non jump, I will add a jump because finally, it doesn't remove the interest of build ladder if you can just jump one block, another building which can be cool is the bridge (when you have to cross a hole).

Yeah, the controls are not very good, that's one thing I will  really work on it.

About the drill machine, I didn't understand what you meant...

If you are interested in the game I can use some play test, so if you want I will notify you when I have a beta or something !

No way to jump brother :( it makes it hard

Developer(+1)

yeah I know, I was thinking that it wasn't necessary because we have the ability to build ladder, but in the end this is more frustrating than challenging, in the next version of the game there will be a jump

Hmm, very confusing. The mechanics aren't really explained. It says that I need to be careful to not run out of fuel, but doesn't explain how I would do that. Sometimes my fuel bar went back to full instead of me dying, but I don't know why. And the in-game text about the controls is wrong. If you ended up not having the time to explain these things in-game, maybe you could've explained them in the description. So my main feedback is: Try to look at the game from the perspective of a player who doesn't know how the game works.

Okay, so I played it again, and this time I realized you just need to have some material left when the fuel runs out. Looking back, it seems obvious, but I think the text about refueling the drill made me think I needed to be at the drill to refuel myself. So that made me not pay attention to the other stuff.

Looking at the other aspects, I think this is a good game. The core gameplay idea is pretty strong I think. The visuals are nice, and the digging feels good as well. I especially liked putting a bunch of fuel in the drill, then going off to explore and meeting the drill further down later, in order to not have to build back up. Once I understood how the game works, it was pretty fun.

Thank you for your feedback! Yeah I'm agree, the reality is the game really need a proper tutorial and I didn't had the time to make one, the next time I'll be more precise on the description.

Yeah I feel I have something to do with the core gameplay, maybe a rogue like, I'm actually working on it.

I'm not sure how to come back up, couldn't find a jump button and took me a minute to figure out digging. I see a few motherload comparisons and I'm definitely getting that vibe here

love the pixel art for this game! reminds me a lot of motherload.

with a bit more polish and some new mechanics (like enemies and such) it could be really fun!

Submitted(+1)

Somehow it somewhat reminds me of motherload...

This could have some promise if you continued it

Developer

I didn't knew that game ! I'll look for inspiration... Thanks I think continue it a little,  adding some other options in building (like a bridge) and maybe ennemies

I'm a huge fan of the presentation! I was a little confused on what to do exactly, but with just a little polish this could be something super great!

Thank you ! Yeah I know in the last day of the jam I was thinking  "I'll never have the time to finish it, now I have a mining and a building mechanic, let's make a playable thing with that"

Great graphics and general feel! I think the controls were broken for me though and I was stuck. Still fun!

Developer(+1)

Thanks ! Be stuck is what I planned as a loss, like you should be managing you ores and mining enough quickly (even if I admit there isn't enough red ore)... But of course the gameplay is not very good, I run out of time and I had a system where I had to make a game

Nice pixel art graphic.

Developer (1 edit)

Thank you 😅 I'm not at all a graphist and making these make me late for the programming part

This has a good concept

Developer

Thanks ! I'm thinking to improve this game to release at least a full gaming experience
