Love the gameboy aesthetic, very nostalgic to me. The drawn cut ins were very cute too. The platforming was weirdly easier in the later stages than the earlier ones. The story sets a very interestingly dark tone and I like how it clashes with the cutesy art. The weird non sequitur story contributed to the surreal tone. I don't know how to feel about the ending. It fits with the randomness of the story, but it felt rather anticlimactic? Nothing was explained, and maybe that's fine. The shootemup segments weren't great, the only grace was the ability to keep blasting constantly. The final segment felt like I just had to get lucky with the enemy's rng fire to survive with only 2 health available. I found it a very interesting experience. Good work!

This one is... weird. Mostly in a good way. I think.

This was a longer game with more content than I'd expected. That's a good thing!

The art is mostly good, though I feel the player sprite both in the overworld and in the shump sections is a weak point. It's limited-resolution and limited-palette, but makes good use of what's available. That's a hard thing to do, and deserves praise.

The squiggly, hand (mouse?) drawn cutscene cards are definitely standout. They have a unique aesthetic and a unique charm.

The platforming is not amazing, but it works well enough, and the level design matches up well with the mechanics- everything is challenging, but doable, and doesn't feel unfair.

The shmup sections are a little lame. The music doesn't loop properly here, and I wish it had sound effects. I also found the health indicator hard to read. But it works well enough, with one exception they don't overstay their welcome, and the palette cycling was a neat way to reuse resources.

The last shump level I found ridiculously frustrating. It's like Flappy Bird, but with enemies and a layout you have to remember. The shmup movement is slow and imprecise, which doesn't matter for most levels but really matters for this one. I almost quit on this section.

I made it to the ending but I still don't really understand it. I'm not sure if I'm supposed to get it.

I think that's where I'm most conflicted on this game. It's weird and unique and different, and I love trying bizarre games. But it's also confounding and confusing and inscrutable. I have no idea what I was really fighting or why, or why the main character does what she does at the end, or why there's a hacker dude or what the point of the fortune teller is or what the pages I'm finding mean. I think the biggest issue is the one in the near the front; I don't understand the main character or why she is doing what she does.

I also gave up on the game early before coming back and trying again because I thought it was unfinished. Until I watched another playthrough I didn't realize you could do anything except go to the hospital and be told to come back tomorrow. I tried doing the logical thing of going back home and going to bed, but this isn't actually something you can do. Instead, you have to go off the right edge of the map (there's no indication that there's more map this way) enter a random house, and be given a key for some reason, then after going into a strange section of the hospital and finding a page of some sort the game advances to the next day. I did eventually figure this out, but none of it is intuitive or logical.

In the end, though, I think the only thing that really brought it down for me was that Flappy Bird level. The rest of it is strange and bizarre, but also a fun and interesting experience even if I don't totally understand it.

This was a cool game! The graphics had a unique style to the that stood out... I especially liked the sketchy illustrations and the "other world" for the SHMUP sections.

This game begs to have some audio, but you did say that was in progress. The actual gameplay was decent, but didn't stand out too much. The platforming was solid, but could use some more fleshed out levels. The SHMUP was a little better, and gave me some really nintendo-era vibes. My only really issue there was that the player hitbox was a little weird. Felt like it might be a little off-center and to the bottom. I died countless times scraping my feet on walls, which did get frustrating.

The ending in the hospital was surprising and pretty memorable! I didn't realize there was another ending before reading a comment below. I went back and checked that one out afterwards. (The hospital ending is my fav though)

Overall this was a unique and interesting game. You called this a demo, so it'll be cool to see you expand it!

Really dig the graphics, they are very cute and charming, at the same time it gives off the creepy vibe that is needed to portray the mental illness story, very well done! The gameplay is a little bit repetitive but I enjoyed myself because it even mashes up the Ren’ai genre in - which although is not obvious at first, but it is this repetition in seeing the two potential dates that enforces it. With that said, I hope there are extra features to spice up this repetition in the future, as it can get monotonous. When I got the first ending, it immediately clicked to me what I was doing. It even made me question whether the “(Looks Cute)” comment was directed at the person, or the monster inside. The mashup mechanics are quite separated from one another, but nonetheless weaved together nicely with some of the shoot-em-up sections having obstacles alluding to the platformer genre.

For criticism, the platforming controls are good but a bit too slippery for my liking and the shoot-em-up feels a bit clunky in the space to maneuver and hitbox. Adding some focus on the main character, i.e. her background and her magical girl qualities would be nice too - all I know is that she’s a nurse that heals.

Overall, I quite enjoyed it and would love to see what’s next for this game. Great work!

i finished the game. not too long. good enough for a game jam game. the characters are cute. the GBC art style (or is it really emulating?) is cool and nostalgic. i like there are different concepts of fight/mission to make depressed people better. Too bad there is no sound. i will change my audio rating if you make an update (only for audio).

there is some feedback maybe helpful. i need several death to find out the hitbox of character is just the lower body. I never use run. and the jump/interact/enter door may need some rearrange for the keys.

I got stuck in a room where I couldn't clear the jump no matter how much I tried.

Thanks for playing,  what room? Let me know

I got a key then I went in the locked room in the hospital. i went up the ladder. There were doors and I went into I think the second one.  You jump on platforms but if you jump on the yellowish one you died. I found the door out but couldn't jump to it. If I jumped high I would hit the top platform and if I jump low I hit the yellow thing and died

Developer

Yes, have you tried the B button? You can run and jump on the right time get over the obstacle
