Post here to list the found bugs in the current build. Please look through the thread for your bug before posting something new.

Known Bugs as of v1.1.1:

  • On respawn, "rations" shows an incorrect (lower) number on items that were used before death.
  • After "Quit to Title", starting a new game sometimes does not display captions in the prologue.
  • After being hit by goats, airborne hedgehogs sometimes fly at unexpected trajectories
  • Conversations in the tavern may be initialized multiple times / bugged out, repeating messages or allowing player control.
  • Wolverines can go into fall animation when making contact with slopes.
  • On Death, sometimes Armin will continue to remain playable, continuing action over the top of the Game Over screen.
  • Spamming roll between scenes breaks player control
  • Reloading into the Athenaeum foyer scene, Armin spawns into the wrong spot.
  • Periodically, Armin can't descend stairs. Remedied by jumping.
  • Throwable objects sometimes do not resolve on contact with the ground, remaining in an airborne state
  • Quit does not work from the death screen
  • When a dialogue sequence playing in the scene ended, control returns to Armin even if he is inside of a sequence that should lock player controls.

is the game supposed to be played with a *specific* gamepad in mind? i am using a Logitech Gamepad F310 and it's not quite working:

  • X acts as A
  • Y acts as X
  • A, B, Start, Left-Shoulder are doing nothing
  • Right-Shoulder is working ok
  • Select acts also as Right-Shoulder
  • i can only use the directional buttons if i change the controller "mode", making the directional be reported as the left-analog axis

let me know if there's anything i can do to help track these things down.

oh! Thanks for your post! I've been making the game based on my own USB controllers. Could you provide the model of the controller so I can check that out? Alternatively, could you log which buttons are which using http://html5gamepad.com? Just the face buttons, left and right shoulder, and the start/select buttons would be great.

As of Alpha Demo v1.1 I've added gamepad button mapping (and keyboard mapping) to deal with this issue.

Typos:

  • Willem: Ah, I near forgot. I'll be right down.
  • Armin: I have a problem...See, this book is empty.

Bugs:

  • Monsters can attack while I'm reading text. (And I can't fight back.)
  • Switching the a different scene, if I'm already holding the left or right buttons, I need to let go of the button and press again for them to start working.
  • Harriette boss glitches and seems to be impossible. She blocks me with library and sends monsters forever.
  • When we die, the quit button doesn't work.

Quality of life changes:

  • Roll should work based on the direction I'm facing if I'm not clicking a direction.
  • Animation blocking is terrible when getting stun locked by multiple enemies. We should have windows where we can regain the controls.
  • The ESC button should bring up a menu to quit the game.

Hi Adam!   first of all, I really enjoy your work. I find some intesting bug, After passing a scene, if I roll i get immedeately  paralyzed, i still can press D and eat something but  can't move,  all the rest animations still working. this pic will show you .

Thanks for reporting this one. I'd never seen it before this weekend but some "speed runner" style players ran into this bug consistently. I'll add it to the list.

Latest version, I can't progress past the combat tutorial. Up until the "dodge" part everything works fine, the game is gorgeous and smooth, nothing seems out of place or off, and then suddenly I hit a brick wall. The spear knight lady starts her swing, the screen goes a little dim, and she pauses, I assume, in a sort of bullet-time tutorial give you the first dodge for free kind of thing, except when I press the button to dodge she doesn't finish her swing, the screen stays dark, I can jump and run and dodge around, swing my sword, but only within the tiny space the game has allowed for the dodge tutorial and nothing I do will un-stick it. I tried re-loading, deleting the save and restarting, deleting the entire file and re-extracting, deleting the zip and re-downloading, and it always gets stuck at that exact spot. The only thing I can think of is that my Avast! antivirus said it detected the .exe as an IDP.Generic virus (which gets a lot of false positives, so I wasn't worried) and put it in the virus chest, but I restored it and created an exception for it, so it shouldn't be a problem.

(I actually have one complaint. It's a little weird I can't just give the guy his sword while I'm in town. I shouldn't have to leave and have him stop me from running off with it.)

Hey DawnMachine, I'm sorry you're having this experience.

What you're describing is a really pesky bug that arises because of a core implementation issue with how the game handles this kind of cutscene. I've had numerous reports about it, and I'm working on a complete rework for it soon, but for now I've just uploaded a patch (1.5.4) that might fix it for you. It's a hard one for me to fix because the sequence works fine on my machine.

when i have Gunther on my back and turn a gear, he stays in the position he is. What i mean is that the character sprite leans down, but when that happens gunther's sprite stays floating in the air.

when i want to go back into my save, i try selecting it with "z" but it brings me back to the screen where it sais "quit" and "start game". But then when i press"z" on "start game" it does bring me to the save selecting screen as its supposed to.

Hey, thanks for your feedback! If I'm understanding this correctly, are you saying that the button prompt in the save screen is incorrectly labeled? Did you change the key bindings at all while playing the game? Just trying to understand the nature of the problem so I can work out a solution.

I have this problem too. I came too far,  press the save, and exit. Later I cannot load the save. I change button on gamepad before,  but I disable it and trying choose save on keyboad, but game just restart  from title. I have another save that I made with 0% in the very beginning - it's loading fine. Yeah, but the game look and plays awesome by the way)

Hello Adam, I would like to report a bug on the latest version (I dowloaded it 10 days ago) : when i get Gunther on my back and try to go back to the town through the middle exit (where there is a forge) Gunther tell me not to go this way and to take him back to the town, if i continue this way (below the lumberjack) the monster that i cross wont die : i mean i can kill them (and Gunther drop) but their corpse will stay and act as obstacle, and i dont get any loots.
I have to say that i play on the mac version ; 
that when the bug occures i took lumberjack's quest (honey) but didn't achevied it yet ;
that before escaping from the cave i tried to continue ahead (at the spot where you have to roll through a tunnel to continue and also automatically drop Gunther) and no message came up ( i tell you that because i expect that the wrong way message may suppose to launch at this moment).

Except that i really love the game (even tho i'm not found of character design, the rest of the sprite and the animation are great), but i think that you could get a smoother control by speeding up the animation. I find it a bit too heavy and it makes certain spider path unnecessarily difficult. Also the wall jump is not as reactive as i expect him to be and the fall is really too fast, making it impossible to reposition yourself mid-air (but maybe it's intended).
Anyway it's just peanuts and it's already fluid enough to be enjoyed ! And it's ABSOLUTELY HUGE considering you'r doing it all by yourself.  I'm watching all your tutorials and they'r absolutely awesome, you'r a great pedagog ! Keep the great work you'r a awesome person !

i just tried to remake the bug and i did it again so i have more precisions  : the foes wont move but the wolverine will begin a attack animation then stun , they still act like ennemy when alive as they dmg you when you cross them, but not when they'r dead ( and the sprite that stay is a "sliced" sprite (like they'r cut in half)). If i go back to the cave and come again the foes will act normally again.

And i run into another bug trying to remake this one :  if you go on left wall while fighting the spider boss and she charge you and you roll through her, she'll be stuck into run animation into that wall and you can kill her freely.

Hey Adam, loved the demo. There was one persistent issue that I can't seem to find anybody else experiencing. There's a lot of green pixels all over the screen in some areas, maybe areas where things are supposed to be masked? I'm on a Mac, running Catalina 10.15.5. I dl'd the game, extracted it, and ran it directly from inside the extracted folder.

I played the game with a PS4 controller, and I found 2 bugs, connected to each other.

  1. After adding every necessary item to craft something, and then pressing "Square", the magic does not happen. There are two ways to make it work:
    1. add the necessary items > press "Square" > add something else and remove it, and it will work
    2. add necessary items > press "Squre" > go to craftable items and back, and it will work
  2. After beating Henriette, I tried to craft a dagger, and I stucked on the item finished screen. No matter what I did, I couldn't exit the froge panel. I tried it with keyboard as well, but it kept happening. Here is a screenshot of this:

Nevertheless I loved the demo, and enjoyed every moment of playing it through. It blasted me with tons of inspiration. :D

Whenever i try to load my save file,or game it glitches and sends me back to title screen with it covered in glitching effects

after a LOT of spamming jump&attack i finally climbed the 'gears' area to cross the bridge. 3 hours total, 2 yesterday, another 1 today, but yay, that's over.

Now, I got past harriet's "harriet" parry phase, and on to her bookshelf stomp phase. I died there, and on game reload, she tells me to go back and find the S section. I oblige her, and find the S section again, but on returning to her, she does not progress the quest. In fact, in my log, the quest remains checked, showing completed, but I can't ever fight her again, no matter how many times i reenter the Library and find the S section.

Sweet game, but buggy, after the dog ran into the house I talked to the bar man and he never finished his sentence and so I could not proceed until i closed and reopened the game, I also have a video from fight Harriette where it seems I just got stuck and couldn't do anything so I'll just reload the game, oh and I can't upload the video clip..

Apparently,  after the bug my auto save made it so I can't get back into battle with Harriette, she would say go find section S even though I have the quest complete and I have found the book 3 times.. I had to restart from the beginning to beat her, but finished more quests lol

When switching swords I did not know which one was the sword or broken sword, never could see my character stats like hp and energy. I beat your demo and was looking forward to slaying warewolves.. but it ended haha. nice work

Hello, I played the demo available on your website(Version 1.5.4) and I follow you on youtube, I really like your work and I loved playing your demo, I'm looking forward to the release of the game, your pixel art is very beautiful, during the demo that I had access I only found only one bug, the spider boss in the cave at a certain point in the fight she starts walking infinitely to the left, which even made it easier to kill, sorry for my english, I'm from Brazil, I hope I helped and if you need a tester of your game I would love to participate.

I know you said on stream not to really take the demo of representative considering how old it is, but I've been really enjoying it with that in mind.

My only (major) problem is that after quitting the game I can't load a save, instead the save location is showing as "00_company" and loading just relaunches the main menu. Gave it a good ole try but I can confirm the demo is too long to play in one sitting.

There is a pink screen of death in the main screen.

Sounds and controls works, and I can start a game, but the main screen is totally pink
