Don't mind supporting devs where it is due, but as someone on a fixed income due to a chronic disability 5-10 dollars is actually a lot to spend on something that isn't neccesary.
Devs that lock their content behind a paywall really irk me. Either make it pay to play, or do a delayed release for non patreon members, but making it impossible to obtain the rest of the story without paying is a low and dirty move.
I may be wrong, i may just not see it somewhere, so correct me if I am wrong, but that is exactly what is seems like is going on here.

It's a poor argument. All you have to do is look around and see how many VN's are abandoned/unfinished. It's a plague. Donations for unfinished works, only incentivates devs to abandon their work and start a new one. The racional is simple: If 90% of the people who are interested and willing to pay for the full game, already did pay for 50% of the work, why should I bother to do the other 50%?
Might as well start a new one from scratch, with just enough to entice people to once again dish out their money, and keep on rince and repeat going forward. No donations for unfinished works. That's my policy.

1) Premise is often extremely important in getting people to take an interest if your work. There's a number of authors who had one great premise and none of the rest of their works really compare - even later ones. J.K. Rowling is a good example of that. If you've got a decent premise, you'd have to be a fool to give up on it. Who knows how good your next one will be? 2) You're going to get a reputation for unfinished works.
Besides, what do you mean "already did pay"? Patreon supporters donate on a monthly basis, or with every release. Sure, there are some people who subscribe, download all the works, and then unsubscribe, but you would still get their money again when you finish the product, if not every few releases. Devs are not incentivised to stop working on the game halfway through.
Besides, PhillyGames already have a finished game under their belt. If that isn't proof of their commitment to their products, I don't know what is.
The main reason there are so many unfinished games is probably the same reason there are so many unfinished fanfics. That shit is hard. It takes commitment. People lose interest in their work. That doesn't seem to be what's happening with City of Broken Dreamers, though. You can't pay for the game on Itch.io, you can just download the FREE demo. Coincidentally, the game is up on Steam, and last time I checked, updates are free.

Second, the game isn't abandoned, what are you even on about? Chapter 10 released in august, 3 months after chapter 9, and chapter 9 released in april, 6 months after chapter 8. Releases are slow and right now we still have 10 days before the release is "late", which is absolutely fine. If you want bad shit, look at someone like I don't subscribe to the patreon, so I don't know what the latest dev updates are, but there was one at the start of November.
$5 for the latest version one week after release isn't a high premium. It isn't even a premium. It is a low standard for something of this quality.

this game is simply beautiful, Gods is literally an interactive movie and I'm not talking about the trash of movies of these times, but the classic and raw.
This is a great game. The animation is amazing and the story is really solid. There is value in replay-ability which makes the game outstanding. So far I'm hooked with the narrative and I just cant wait to see more content.

I know this was months ago, and you may never see this. But just in case someone else does: this seems playable on Android using JoiPlay plus the Ren'py plugin (available in the Play Store). Haven't played all the way through (just started, really), so there could be an incompatibility I just haven't encountered.
But the most common failure modes I've encountered with Ren'py games on JoiPlay don't seem to be a problem: the game starts, the menus are navigable, and text entry doesn't break it.
Just something to chew on if you really wanna try this game.

I think they're looking for a direct port, because it's easy to just install an apk. I used to do the same, but I've kinda just switched to JoiPlay altogether, because there is a better repertoire of games and in many cases it's as stable or better than the android port.
And there are games, like harem hotel for instance, which are simply too big to install as an apk.
I get what you saying tho I'm not sure if you familiar with Dark Assassin, but all their android ports works perfectly fine.. Well at least the once I've played, can't speak about the ones I didn't obviously.. But yeah it works without any problem plus the website uploads new VNs everyday.. hey i don't know if this is a bug but during Chapter 3 i think when you go to meet a contact at "Stairway to Heaven" during the Scene with Venus after selecting the slut mode Venus's Name changes to "Victoria" for 1 Render/Dialogue sentence, i'll share below screenshot's of what i mean since Your Discord is Exclusive to Patron and i have no other way to report bugs.
as i was saying, i don't think the "Victoria" name drop was intentional unless she Hacked Venus into Unlocking the full service because she is watching the MC at that current moment and the MC is unaware?

Honestly I agree with you 100% there on that front. But in the end, it's a ridiculously time consuming and expensive process to make games on your own, especially with such a quality set of graphics and some of the animations even. That stuff is endlessly more intensive on computers than most people realize, that's for sure. So I totally understand why he's so heavily bias to his patrons.

Well I'm no expert or game developer but if you look at the patron I imagine he has enough to work in the game full time and could maybe afford to do the whole "One month late for public release" thing like most Devs do... I don't want to sound rude it he does have Both Android version, Discord and up to 7 chapters Locked behind Patron... The reason I dislike this is because I feel like we are disconnected from the game, we can't really report bugs or get any news and updates like others, I always felt patron was more for those who like custom renders and other things similar to that but doing it this way feels like he's taken away free advertisements if that make sense, I feel like more could be accomplished if he was going down the same route others devs do with the way they run Patron... I don't think I've seen much or any reply from the Dev on this site either so it does feel abandoned unless your a Patron member

Phenomenal game. The renders for the 'scenes' are absolutely gorgeous, and the story is engaging (which is a rare thing for this sub-genre of VN. In fact, I have one render in particular from the 2nd Chandra encounter as my wallpaper now. I would like to know the name and artist of the specific song that plays during that scene.

Can't really play the game on pc... Will the game be release on Android device?
I know this was months ago, and you may never see this. But just in case someone else does: this seems playable on Android using JoiPlay plus the Ren'py plugin (available in the Play Store). Haven't played all the way through (just started, really), so there could be an incompatibility I just haven't encountered.
But the most common failure modes I've encountered with Ren'py games on JoiPlay don't seem to be a problem: the game starts, the menus are navigable, and text entry doesn't break it.
Just something to chew on if you really wanna try this game.
I simply just download the game, installed it and it worked perfectly on my Android like any other game would .. So why's everyone finding it so hard to get an android version
I think they're looking for a direct port, because it's easy to just install an apk. I used to do the same, but I've kinda just switched to JoiPlay altogether, because there is a better repertoire of games and in many cases it's as stable or better than the android port.
And there are games, like harem hotel for instance, which are simply too big to install as an apk.

I get what you saying tho I'm not sure if you familiar with Dark Assassin, but all their android ports works perfectly fine.. Well at least the once I've played, can't speak about the ones I didn't obviously.. But yeah it works without any problem plus the website uploads new VNs everyday.. Like the moment an update gets released DA releases an Android port of that update... Also something to mention is that DA has a whole library of android ports, over a hundred I'd say
I see that "Book One" Was released on Steam. What difference if any are there to what Itch.io has ? If there is a difference is book 1 coming to Itch.io ?
Book One is chapters 1-7. This Itch.io version is chapters 1.-4.

Graphics, sets and atmosphere are amazing! very well done. I'm not a huge fan of these types of games but this one has a nice appeal and made me get interested in what was about the happen. Very well done! I do really wonder how and where you got all the good assets and 3D models.

hey i don't know if this is a bug but during Chapter 3 i think when you go to meet a contact at "Stairway to Heaven" during the Scene with Venus after selecting the slut mode Venus's Name changes to "Victoria" for 1 Render/Dialogue sentence, i'll share below screenshot's of what i mean since Your Discord is Exclusive to Patron and i have no other way to report bugs.
as i was saying, i don't think the "Victoria" name drop was intentional unless she Hacked Venus into Unlocking the full service because she is watching the MC at that current moment and the MC is unaware?

I'm Loving this game so far... 2 things however...
1. do you plan to add sounds effects for the sex scenes like for spanking or the wet sounds from penetration, BTW the soundtrack and Animations are really great especially when it comes to the Elasticity of the Skin and Vaginal/anal area's
2. it's your game and i'm loving it so far but please please tell me that has a somewhat Harem ending, like at the end of the game all the girls are in a relationship with you happily because i don't think i can choose any of them over another, having to pick just or 2 girls would literally kill me bro... there is way to much work put into these character and story not to Allow the MC to Happily be with them all at once in a happy ending. PLEASE DON'T Break our Hearts mate.
I only now saw how dedicated Philly is to getting people to be Patrons cause DAMN they're WAY ahead of us here in Itch with the game - up to episode 7 already as of 4 days short of a month ago! Sheesh! Now I am very curious to see just how long it is until they feel it's been a patron exclusive long enough to warrant giving us down here access to episode 5 hahaha. Well, go get yours Philly! yeah i totally understand the reasons for having patron though unfortunately many like myself can't really afford to back anyone when living fortnight to fortnight...i wish it was just a 1 month wait time for public release like most other games.
Honestly I agree with you 100% there on that front. But in the end, it's a ridiculously time consuming and expensive process to make games on your own, especially with such a quality set of graphics and some of the animations even. That stuff is endlessly more intensive on computers than most people realize, that's for sure. So I totally understand why he's so heavily bias to his patrons.
But... man, again, I agree with you so damn much haha. It feels like it's been abandoned down here in hand-me-down town! Kinda wish they'd give a little more appreciation for those of us who can't afford to pay for the games/patron with the other costs they've got to cover in life. Even more so with 'rona going around, things got endlessly more tight for us budgetarily. I guess you could say I'm conflicted with my feelings and perception on it. haha.

Well I'm no expert or game developer but if you look at the patron I imagine he has enough to work in the game full time and could maybe afford to do the whole "One month late for public release" thing like most Devs do... I don't want to sound rude it he does have Both Android version, Discord and up to 7 chapters Locked behind Patron... The reason I dislike this is because I feel like we are disconnected from the game, we can't really report bugs or get any news and updates like others, I always felt patron was more for those who like custom renders and other things similar to that but doing it this way feels like he's taken away free advertisements if that make sense, I feel like more could be accomplished if he was going down the same route others devs do with the way they run Patron... I don't think I've seen much or any reply from the Dev on this site either so it does feel abandoned unless your a Patron member

Dumb Question: How many chapters is this game gonna be? I still haven't played it yet and I'm waiting on it to be finished before I do play it. I know I won't be disappointed, because it already looks awesome and I played your last game Depraved Awakening and was blown away by it.
Are there possibly any plans to release an Android version, I myself don't care for any compression of any sort as I have an abundance of storage, I can't speak for others but this game definitely looks interesting and unfortunately I only have a laptop and no comfortable way to use the laptop whilst playing this kinda game :) I definitely do hope to see an Android version down the line

Phenomenal game. The renders for the 'scenes' are absolutely gorgeous, and the story is engaging (which is a rare thing for this sub-genre of VN. In fact, I have one render in particular from the 2nd Chandra encounter as my wallpaper now. I would like to know the name and artist of the specific song that plays during that scene.
If you are referring to the scene back at your apartment that song is licensed from Professor Kliq and is called Sacreligious.
