problems sideloading Playdate version

If I upload the main file, the playdate sideloading interface says there isn't a top-level .pdx file. If I upload the .pdx folder (?), it says wrong filetype. Am I missing something?

Developer

You're the second person to raise this issue today, I suppose that you must be on OS X? Could you try something for us, just as an experiment, if you zip the .pdx folder, and remove the .zip extension so the zipped file is `oquonie.pdx`, and give the playdate that file, what happens?

sorry for the delayed response! I downloaded the latest build onto my Windows desktop. I had the same problem with the .zip file. I took out the .pdx folder and zipped that so it would be the root? folder and that worked (but it took a while to upload).

I had this problem on my Google Pixel phone as well (uploading the original download to the PD website I mean), I'll try on my computer later today

UPDATE - I got it working, the problem was the zip file contained the file structure Oquonie/Oquonie.pdx/<all the subfolders & files>, but the playdate website expects the Oquonie.pdx to be the root folder inside that zip file (i.e, just Oquonie.pdx/<all the subfolders & files>). Once I zipped up the Oquonie.pdx folder by itself the upload worked no problem

Developer

We're glad to hear :) We'll try and get rid of the subfolder in the zip file and upload a new build!

Still facing this issue. The folder structure seems ok to me as the zip file contains the correct Oquonie.pdx folder such as all the other games I sideload to my Playdate from itch.io

Developer

What happens when you open the whole folder(not an individual file in it)?

I don't have the SDK installed so the Oquonie.pdx appears as an usual folder for me. In the folder I have the pdex.bin pdex.so pdxinfo files and sounds and SystemAssets folders. I'm sideloading thru the playdate website, will try over usb later, maybe that could help

rezipping and sideloading via USB finally helped. that was a loong journey to figure out :)

Developer

Great! Sorry it's such a pain.. the thing expects an apple app bundle, which we can't create from Linux. Glad you got it working!

Can you please take me through the process step by step.I am going through hell trying to install this game work.THERE IS NO OQUORIE.PDX FILE ANYWERE.ONLY A FOLDER.Thanks

Developer

Sure, try unzipping the file from itchio, and then inside, you should see a file Oquonie.pdx, zip that file and upload it on the playdate.

(1 edit)

There is no file named Oquorie.pdx in the unzipped folder. It is a folder called Oquorie.pdx after the zip file is unzipped.

There is no .pdx file please.Upload a new zip file with .pdx inside

This is really unfair, after a year or so...the problem of installing this file has not been solved. We still have the same old file that does not work.

Developer (3 edits)

But it does, it's just that you must be on a different operating system than us. Like we said in the thread, linux compiled files behave a bit different than on Mac, but the file can be made to work by unzipping and re-zipping it with your system.

We don't have access to apple devices to make a OSX compatible zip file.

Please I am on windows.Maybe you should upload a rezipped file that works.Because the previous explanation is not clear enough please.Kindly do something about it.

Developer

Lemme see if it's possible to compress a file through Wine, so it might work on Windows.

Thanks....I am waiting

The folder I have does not contain any file called Oquorie.pdx

Kindly send me a working file.I am on windows.my email address is phrankiehtc@gmail.com

you can verify that I bought the game today from thee same email. Thanks

(1 edit)

I did not know that it is on  catalog...should have bought it from there to avoid all this problems of inatallation.

Developer (3 edits)

Sorry about all this. It's a bit complicated for us to fix right now. We refunded your game purchase on here so you can buy it again on the Playdate Catalogue, this is easier I think. I submitted a request to itch.io.

Please how does refund work on here??Is there a link to take the money back or how do I go about it.Thanks

Developer (3 edits)

We already began the refund process with itch.io, it'll get sent back to you via your payment method. We're not certain what that's going to look like on your end, but we'll keep you updated. You have nothing to do on your end for the moment. It should get processed very soon. Thanks for your patience.

We  just got a message from itch.io saying that they processed the refund, they told us that it should be reflected on your method of payment within a few business days(i see it now listed as refunded as well on our end). Sorry it took so long, they process each request by hand so it takes a while (any action like this on itch.io takes forever...).
Cheers!
