The red meteorite is meant to be a risk pickup / trap — it briefly disables shooting on purpose.
It’s tied to the game’s story, which I’ll reveal more of in future updates (including why you start with lower health). I wanted to flip the usual arcade rule where gold always means good. I can see now that the red visual warning around it is not strong enough.
At the moment there are only two drops — the gold one and the emerald — because I didn’t want to throw everything into the first level.
Weapon and shield upgrade drops are definitely planned.
