The positives:

+ The Music, +The Graphics, + The Nostalgia i felt about old Racing Games

The negatives:

- I only managed to get 8 FPS

Jam Judge

I like the visual fidelity and of course the song chosen as BGM.

I also like the night to day transition as time passes.

The track starts very hard, in the dark and with constant corners, which makes for a very frustrating experience.

My favorite part was near the end where there's this very cool straight track with beautiful scenery and you just can step on the gas and fly. Wooooo!!

Oh yeah and going downhill at full boost and jumping off road was the most fun part. LMAO

Some improvement points:

- The race timer keeps counting even after a game over. This should've been identified and fixed in early tests of the game.

- Volume controls are a config element that should've been there from day 1.

- The car should be able to reverse! Especially if the player is going to end up smashing into the walls.

- It's VERY hard to keep the car going straight. The steering felt too sensitive. The game is definitely not tuned for keyboard controls. I got a better feel of the car when playing with controller, but still the steering went hard into a drift quite quickly.

- Checkpoints should have a visual sign, not just an audio cue.

- A minimap would've been great. Going in blind into corners makes it super hard to measure if you're going too fast.

- A progress indicator would be nice too. Something like xx% of race done, or xxx/yyy miles raced.

- I would've preferred a slightly more compact build size that can fit in itch's website. 2BG plus is a bit large for a jam game. XD

Great game!

Graphics and ambience was good, and the driving felt icnredibly satisfying but  i think for how the car handles and how the game telepgraphs the speed the tofu damage is very counterproductive. The game is a bit too punishing. Perhaps a tips segment would be great for people like me who peaked their racing game experience in the old need for speed most wanted. I also felt like the map was too big and a few shorter maps with countdown timers would have been better.

I saw your attached video and i see how the game was intended to be played but  i couldnt really do it below 6:30 and i achieved that by avoiding the drifting at high speed and "edging" myself trough the second half of the race to not lose.  That being said i won't rate the game differently because  i have a skill issue. The game was very fun and  i will definitely try more to shave down time. I didnt have performance issues but the gamesize and the way to download it are definitely a limiting factor on how many people will try it out.

This was fun, love speeding through the course and drifting around turns.

Agreed with comments below, Ill especially second the desire for a map; not knowing what the course ahead is like makes it tough to commit to deep drifts or hitting the overdrive to much. And a dedicated handbrake might help with the controls a bit too, so normal brake can be a more controlled brake.

Overall solid base and I had a good time with it!

Really impressive! I couldn't imagine a 2 week jam game to look this good!

The graphics and soundtrack are really nice, I wanted a racing game featuring IRyS for ages.

It was a big skill issue on my part too, but I couldn't finish it. My biggest problem was the absence of reverse, it was really easy to get stuck on the guardrail or just the side of the road. The controls are a bit too sensitive in my opinion.

A lot of comments mentioned the performance and yeah, it could use some work.

Still, for a jam game, it's really impressive and if you ever update it, let me know! Despite the problems, I enjoyed it a lot! The game has so much potential.

Very nice!  The environment was beautiful as you climb the mountain, and it was satisfying to figure out how to control the car well.  I loved realizing the sun was rising and night was ending.  I'm also always a sucker for a good song while doing anything, including driving.  :D

Some people mentioned optimizing, one of the quickest optimizations is to go through all the texture files and raise the LOD bias so that the game just doesn't pack the high, 4k version at all.  Especially in a speedy racing game, no one will notice if all the plants are at 1/8th the resolution, but they will notice not downloading hundreds of mb of files for a jam.

Very impressive! I did not expect to see a racing game realized to this extent. Really fun, though I may have totalled a few cards.

As for feedback, like others have said, performance could be better, and controls a bit smoother, but overall an enjoyable experience.

A nice idea of something to add would be a map: It'd be nice to be able to see what curves are coming up.

The controls can be a little fiddly and the game could use a bit of a smoother learning curve, but I still enjoyed drifting around the hills like crazy. I didn't have any performance issues on my computer thankfully.

I am sure you know about performance issue, so beside that. I think beginning of the game should be the end part and end part be the beginning. It actually fun to speed through everything but you made so much turns on the early game. It discourages player. I think you should have aim for more things like in later stage with mby several turns.

Developer

Thanks for the feedback. Also i think having the beginning part to be at night also did not help things since visibility is low. Noting this down for the project moving forward.

Performance was horrendous and not being able to reverse was brutal, but I had fun routing the extra stage. How much of the asset work for this was done by you during the jam versus taken from asset packs or previous games?
Developer

Ran out of time to optimize things so the bad performance was a sad expectation. Props and the car physics was taken from another game I'm making while the UI , start/ finish systems and the whole map was made from scratch.

Next time I would advise planning out your project so that it doesn't require downloading from a sketchy external website. Also, your game runs at 8 fps on my computer and takes up 4 GB of RAM. That's not a good amount for a gam jam.
