I think its cool that you can make your next run easier with buying more time. But I think maybe you should get more time points based on how far you are since it would make getting far way more rewarding if the farther you are the more rewards you get.
This is a fun game! I like the replay ability with the time upgrade system and how it connects with the theme(: If I had to critique I would let the player start with more time because I found myself getting confused at the start of the game.
Thank you so much for your comment! Yeah I definitely understand your comment, I chose by design to throw the player in with only a few seconds so that they get confused and feel the unfairness of the situation, and try to build their way up against this frustration (or decide to give up, which is also a great choice). Thank you for this nice feedback!
Thank you for trying my game! Yeah it's definitely the absolute opposite of your game in terms of mood and difficulty, as the game is meant to create this frustration in the player. I definitely knew ahead of time a lot of people would give up really early, and that's totally ok and fair! Thank you for this nice comment and for trying it anyway :D
the game was absulut cinema
i loved the concept of the game and the gameplay is so smoth
Great connection to the theme and fun but challenging gameplay. The camera perspective did make it a bit tricky to tell if I was going to hit something, but usually there was room to stay well away just in case. Very well done, especially for a first jam!
it's really fun and addictive, even though I never got past the 2nd part😅 i will keep playing it tho, as I think the gameplay is very engaging, plus the graphics are really nice, the music is top notch and overall it feels polished.
only downside for me is that it can feel a bit frustrating at times, but maybe thats more of a me problem. hope you keep updating the game!
This game is absolute fricken POGGIES.
I wish I could donate 5 dollars on download.
I was hooked for 30 minutes, on a game jam game.
The graphics were amazing
my only nit pic is because I am particular about pixelarts, the pixelart at the end didn't line up to a pixel grid. this is a very common thing, just know for the future it can make pixel art look cheap.
OTHER THAN THAT FRICKEN POGGIES. when i get home from work I will be beating it without buying any extra time
You're simply the best. Thank you so, so much for this so kind comment, especially after the half hour of fun I had on yours!
And thank you for the pixel art section precision, it's definitely a part I had to rush at the end of the jam, and I wish I could have done it better. That's a lesson for next time!
Is the number of attempts shown at the end real, or did I just happen to finish the game in exactly 28 tries? That was really great — the message was very strong. Are the parts with your own design only the final scene, or did you also create the 3D models yourself? I loved all of it.
It is real, so you did beat it in 28 tries! So congratulations on beating it and reaching the simpler times, and thank you so much for beating my game.
As I was solo on it and had only 4 evenings of 3 hours to work on it, a lot of the 3D assets were free assets that I reworked (textures, modifications here and there, animations...) for the game to be perfectly honest.
Yes, I really did beat it in 28 tries 😄 And considering you created such a great experience with only around 12 hours of work, that’s honestly impressive. Adding a meaningful message at the end really takes the game to the next level. When you finish it, you actually feel like it gives you something — not just that you’ve killed time or simply had fun.
I have a hard time rating this game. On one hand, it’s extremely frustrating. On the other, the ability to buy extra time using hourglasses encourages you to try again and again.
At some point you want to stop playing because the cost of buying more time becomes too high, but then you’re already close to reaching the second stage and you get curious about what comes next.
Unfortunately, the difference in controls between the first and second stage, combined with the lack of time to adapt, made me give up. That’s a shame, because I think many players might quit at this point, and since it’s a game jam game, it would be nice if more people could fully appreciate the work that went into it. A possible solution could be a checkpoint after the first stage.
I also have mixed feelings about the visuals. The pseudo realistic, ugly models are kind of awful, but at the same time they add a weird, funny charm. I honestly can’t tell whether this effect is intentional or not.
The text animation that plays after death also bothered me. I know it only lasts a second, but I really just want to skip it and jump straight back into the game.
I also thought it could be interesting if the obstacles were placed randomly, but at this difficulty level, learning the pattern is clearly part of the game, and it probably wouldn’t work without that.
What’s surprising is that the overall effect is still positively addictive. It doesn’t feel like an intentional psychological trick by the developer, but rather the result of many small elements coming together. Somehow, it works really well.
Thank you for your long feedback and for playing the game!
Frustration was definitely a huge part of the design I was aiming for. Some people would argue that for a game for a game jam, you would have to make something simple or addictive in a good way, but I decided to go against that pattern because I wanted that frustration to fit the story behind the game. The design point was indeed to have the player play again and again, to learn the pattern to optimize their time like the hero would do, to save those extra seconds to be able to run to their final objective: free, simpler times.
When it comes to the models, it was definitely meant to be kinda awful, to reflect the gloomy environment of the hero. I definitely knew ahead of time it would probably work against me for the jam itself, but that's what I wanted for the game and its theme, and I'm actually glad it made people question what the idea behind it was, so thank you for that!
It's honestly a great review because it showcases what I wanted to see going into the minds of the players. More than a game, it was kind of an experience to see how players would react to the whole thing. Would they relate to the hero and try to learn the path because they want to reach the end, or would they give up instead due to the whole unfairness of it. I'm really glad you wrote all of that, so thank you so much for it!
It's really hard!! But I do like how you interpreted the theme and its implementation. I think deducting 5sec for every hit is a little too punishing, and the controls take a bit of learning, but as the comments say maybe it really is just a "get good" thing because I improved a bit with every run haha. Overall great game
It's definitely meant to be a "get good" game in the end from a design standpoint, as each hit is supposed to display the hero losing even more time in a daily routine where he barely has any time for himself, and making any mistake makes them lose this little time they have left. I'm glad you did try many times and got better on each try though, that was definitely the purpose! Thank you for playing my game :D
