How did you implement the Theme?
The game is a survival horror which plays with your vision using light. Santa has stolen all the Christmas presents. You must collect them all from his house.

How did you add the Special Object?
You have a magical hat with a bell that rings to create light around you. Use it to find your way in Santa's house. Be careful, he has very sensitive hearing

WHAT HAPPENED TO SANTA

Love the consequence to using the bell! Great game!

I didn't manage to find all the gifts, but I found the consequence interesting.

This might be my favorite Santa ever :D  I laughed a lot, it's a very fun game, good work

Fun game but now I am conditioned to be scared when I hear bells. The santa jumpscare gets me every time lol!

The best I managed to get was four presents! While I like the idea of ringing the bell to light up the area having actual consequences of Santa hearing you - in practice, it meant I barely used the light, only navigating by the edges of the map. It could of used some music - but I liked the silly """jumpscare""" from the not-scary santa when you get caught, haha.

Developer

I figured that's what most people would try lmao. That's why I put a present in the center of the map, so you actually need the light to find it.

Lots of people used a similar idea of ringing a bell to increase your visual area, but I like how you've done it because there is an actual consequence to ringing the bell, so well done :)

Happy holidays!

The theme implementation is amazing in this. I didn't get far in the my first play-throughs and the jump scare was great haha.

Once I got a feeling of the map, I was able to complete the game near blind. I didn't understand what the tiptoe mechanic was meant to be, so I just stood still until I didn't hear any footsteps anymore. At that point, it was pretty easy to beat the game.

Loved the light mechanic, it mainly helped me memorize the map before my final Jame Win run. I do feel like the avoidance mechanic could be improved, as bosses are supposed to put up some kind of good fight, then lose to the player in the end (unless player has skill issue)

Nice work. I liked the light expanding mechanic that would ring the bell. It was a cool balance between making it easier to find the presents but also harder because Santa would find you faster.

Very cool concept. The sound was cutting in and out at times, and I found the small circle of light just a little too small. It didn't feel claustrophobic, it just felt too small.

Overall though, nice work. The first time I died freaked me out. I almost jumped out of my chair. So yeah, you elicited the right horror feelings.

Good luck with the jam and Merry Christmas!

Me and my friends laughed really hard at that jumpscare lmao. I do wish you could walk diagonally, but great job overall!

Developer(+1)

Thanks a lot! I did really wanna add diagonal movement too but I'm not really great with sprite work so designing all 4 diagonal animations would've been a nightmare T-T. Glad you enjoyed the jumpscare lmao I loved it a lot too

Submitted(+1)

I get ya there, though honestly, you can get away with not having diagonal walk sprites. If Deltarune can do it, anyone can! I get it though lol, sprite work is a pain

Cool. Is there a way to escape Santa Eleven from Stranger Things? hahaha I tried, but I die every time.

I love the screamer png lmao
