How accurate is the AI-generated tag for games?

Out of curiosity, I filtered the Visual Novel genre by AI-generated. Many of the games that popped up have art that does not seem AI-generated at all. Nor does the creator or the comments mention anything about AI.

If these games have art made with AI, then AI is much better at emulating digital art then I thought. How did itch.io determine that these games were made with AI? Does the AI-generated tag remain even if AI assets were removed?

It's entirely up to the creator to disclose whether their project contains AI-generated content, and to my knowledge, Itch does not conduct any kind of confirmation or testing.

I don't know if Itch takes action when users report a game that's been mislabeled in this regard.

i mean, in theory i could use AI to generate a lot of stuff for me, and simply don't disclosure that my game has AI content. As long as anyone discovers... eh i don't think is that accurate tbh

I think that the AI generated tab isn't very accurate.  A lot of the stuff looks hand drawn but it looks like some of it is AI. It mostly looks like just an extra added tab since most of the games don't say anything about adding any sort of AI into the content. Perhaps it could have been labeled AI by mistake too? So personally I would say that the AI generated tag for games isn't very accurate since people can easily just label it as AI even without having it.

Hi. Just wanted to say that if a game is marked as using AI, it doesn’t always mean it uses AI art, because it can be marked as AI for using AI-assisted code, writing, etc.

From what I’ve noticed, some might also use the tag on the side of caution, like if they make their own art but use a photo filter that could use AI.

What carrot said.

You need this tag:

The general ai tag means any combination of

https://itch.io/games/tag-ai-generated-graphics this has 13k entries

https://itch.io/games/tag-ai-generated-audio

https://itch.io/games/tag-ai-generated-text

https://itch.io/games/tag-ai-generated-code

Especially the lumping together of code with art is problematic, as people usually only care for ai assets, when they filter against ai. Or for ai, in your case.

The catch it all https://itch.io/games/tag-ai-generated has 26k entries.

Oh, and if you see the tag no-ai in the info box, that is a manual tag. You do not see the meta info tags, but can filter for them. Weird solution, that needs improvement. Also, as far as I know, it is only mandatory for assets to give that information.

I didn't know there were so many AI tags. Thanks.
