  • This game was really cool! I'm SHOCKED that you had 0 experience with code before this! I think it was really cool how you had to unlock everything, from basic mechanics to the graphics and music. And when the music kicked in, it was just an incredible feeling. I think you have a good understanding of game design despite having never coded before. I think some of the combat and jumps were a bit difficult, but don't let that discourage you! I'd highly consider exploring this, and game design in general, if you so choose. You're clearly talented! Thanks for submitting!
  • It was really cool seeing the game "construct" itself as you played, making it appear deceptively simple at first. I wasn't expecting it to have such visual flair so the art really impressed me.

How does your submission fit the jam's theme?
It's themed around VHS style visuals and sounds, but it also has duck.

This is insanely pretty. Love the visuals and color palette. You have a solid foundation for a cool looking metrovania! The only thing I can say is yeah, there isn’t a strong link to the retro TV theme. Nonetheless, this is awesome. Congrats on your first game~

Really impressive work for your first solo jam game, especially coming from an art background. The platforming and the way the visuals shift at certain points in the level are really cool – it feels like the world is changing together with the character.

I also really liked the UI/audio: the menu navigation sounds are super satisfying, and the “typing” sound effect is very pleasant and fits the mood.
One small visual thing: the main character feels like they could use a simple shadow or contact shadow under their feet, just to ground them a bit more in the scene.
Overall, a very nice experience – thanks for making and sharing it, and good luck with fixing the remaining bugs!

Hi! I played your game and wanted to share some feedback.

I really enjoyed the game, first of all because of the visual style, it looks very stylish and fresh. I also liked how the game unfolds as you collect the tapes, it is a great idea and very well executed. The music and sounds are excellent, everything feels harmonious and fits the overall style perfectly.

The only things that made the game a bit tricky were the controls. Sometimes I missed jumps or overshot platforms. Also, after finishing one level the game glitched and I was flying in empty space for a couple of minutes before I decided to exit.

Overall, the game left a very strong and positive impression. Great work!

This was a very clever idea and well executed! Makes me want to see more games with this concept!
I loved the skeleton too

Damn i really liked unlocking all the features :D I think the platforming at start was a bit too tight in terms of jumps, but loved this overall!

fun concept, assests and menu looked very nice and polished . shooting had a good feel to it. had a pretty major issue that on my first death the pause button reversed, and the game only played while the giant pause image was visible.

I enjoy the idea of turning on the assets, but I think it makes that first bit feel like a drag you have to go through to get to the game part, especially on having to restart.

I love your artstyle, its so pretty! I really like how you slowly unravel the assets when you collect the tape. The level initially being made using the default godot icon is honestly hilarious. Congrats on your first game!!

love the visual style, your art is great! for a first game idea this is super cool, but i do think it would put off a lot of people that the first thing they see is the default icon.svg from godot everywhere hahaha, otherwise great stuff!

You artstyle is fantastic! Good job on picking up coding and making this game!

This is a really good first game! I think the art is really nice, love the color palette. I guess the one thing I would say about it is that its ties to the theme aren't very strong, but that's not a big issue.

Developer

Thank you!

I agree! I did have some ideas planned that would tie things together a bit better with the theme but time started running out pretty fast haha.

Glad you liked it still, thanks for playing!

Really cool premise for a game! The art is also really great!

I did want to mention that I was consistently encountering a bug at this section shortly after unlocking the dash ability:

Upon getting the coin on this platform, my game freezes entirely. I was playing on the web build.

Developer

Hey. Yeah thanks for letting me know.

That was one of the first things I was rushing to hurry up and fix. I think it's all good to go now. Thanks again!

Great idea and execution for a first game. The player is certainly rewarded for pressing on and seeing how the idea develops. Looking forward to seeing what you make in the future.
