Grievous Hecatia Harm!

short, cute, and fun little game! difficulty curve was a little weird, wasn’t too fun dodging just aimed bullets for most of the stage. this gets rectified once you’re upgraded, but maybe a bit too much considering the solution is killing all the fairies before they do anything. the boss patterns are SUPER well done though, even after getting shot and losing 2/3 of my firepower it was fun to dodge and i didnt mind having to spend so long doing it. the music and art props the game up even more, gives it a good vibe. also a pretty fun use of theme. not much more to say given it’s a short and simple game, but sometimes the simple games are just what i need.

I really like the silly concept & use of theme in this one! It's exactly what I expect of a Gradius-like game, and the idea of losing only one powerup per hit taken is really good for QoL. The only major issue was that I wasn't sure where the end was, between some repetitive fairy patterns and the lack of (optionally) a progress meter.

Otherwise, the game is overall easy to figure out and does what it needs to all around. Well done!

Hecatia is really pushing her brand!

I’m not sure how you get the extra Hecatias. Is it enemies killed, reaching a point in the stage, or just on a timer? If it's the former two, getting hit near the boss sets you to 1/3  damage without any way to gain your damage back even if you can dodge. Other than that, I enjoyed the game.

Developer

It's based on enemies killed. Every ten kills gives you an extra Hecatia option. Dying resets that.

I was wondering if the game was endless or not until the hyper fairy jumpscare at the end lol.

Pretty basic shmup where Hecatia feels weirdly underpowered until you get her other two halves to triple your damage. The enemies all doing aimed shots makes it a bit uninteresting since even at 1 power you just stream through everything. Pretty funny ending though.

The ending screen deserves to be enshrined as one of the greatest pieces of art that has come out of these jams.

The game itself could use some improvements. I think it's serves as a good demonstration for why basically no modern shmup has your firepower increase by 100% for each level of power. Since the enemies don't grow more powerful throughout the stage, you end up being too weak in the beginning and too strong towards the end.

It's also not great that the stage is 100% aimed bullets. Until the boss arrives, you're basically not doing any real dodging and have little sense of where your hitbox is. The boss itself is fine though.

The game could have used a score counter or kill counter or something, for replay value and for people to compare their performance with each other. Still, the art alone makes it worth playing, not only the ending art but the sprites themselves are cute enough, especially the fairy death animation.

Was gonna comment but basically same as this

Having different Hecatias be different option shots was cute. I wish there was some sort of way to tell how far you were into the stage. I didn't know if the game was endless or not for most of it.

Well killing somebody that ain't maude flanders with T-shirts cannon is not easy huh.

While the bullet patterns were simple, I really did enjoy weaving between them. I think there’s a really fun game here if it had more time to add/refine things like focus shots or not resetting back to 0 power after a loss.

Still, great work to the team! :)
