Nice game with an interesting mix of physics puzzles/platforming/exploration. I got stuck on the last level when I got to the stealth bit, had no idea how to get past those guys to get up the slope, except for shifting metric tonnes of rock up all those platforms and I didn't want to do that :/
The music and graphics and the whole way the game was put together (menus, level transitions etc) was very solid. The graphics and UI communicated everything clearly, and the objectives updating in the top left was nice.
The one thing I think would improve it most would be making switching masks quicker, maybe putting them on keys 1,2,3,4. So many times in levels 3-6 I only cared about strength + beast mask, but always having to cycle through the other masks, waiting for each animation, took a few seconds and seemed like unnecessary friction.
Overall I'm super impressed with how much you managed to do, I think it's a really cool game. xD
i like the tiki theme. reminds me a bit of crash bandicoot :D
The music sets a great vibe and all the sound effects are very satisfying.
Very polished game and i enjoyed my time with it.
Amazin Job :D
I love it so much :) The graphics are amazing, and the sound is also.
I really enjoyed the music and the vibes right from the start. The traversal between islands in that Indiana Jones map-style was really good. I also enjoyed the mask swapping noises haha. I did get stuck once when the oar drifted out of the escape area and I couldn’t exit until I went and got it back again. It also took me a while to realize you could lift the rocks to climb them, although I wish the jump was high enough to get ontop of the rocks no matter what position they are in, instead of having to position it ever so slightly to be able to jump high enough to climb a smaller edge of it. I almost quit on the beast mask level until I read another comment here which helped me. I also had to give up on the purple rock level because I couldn’t figure out the right combination of switches. Overall I really enjoyed this one, good job!
Wow one of the best games of the jam! Having the goal be a canoe each level as you traverse a tropical archipelago is so memorable and cool in the moment! You did a fantastic job with the graphics aswell making them cohesive and inspired. The different masks didnt seem arbitrary they all has specific function that served the level. The entire Tiki idea really makes this entry stand out. The audio was also so good with the voice acting (Im guessing you lol?) and the music. The kuchugga when switching masks was also great! As well as the level transitions and cinematics
All though the game does have some serious problems. I think the masks blocking your vision felt frustrating moreso then a satisfying puzzle obscurity. I think if you make them like 80 percent transparent the game would still function the same and would be a drastic improvment. The light mask for level 2 was really good. I think having more caves where the light mask is the direct solution would stop it from seeming useless if you made the masks transparent.
The performance was also pretty slow. I think reducing poly count and expesially texture size would really help boost it! Also would help load times as it took quite a bit.
The grab with the mask of strength feels like it should have its range extended to be like 1.5x its current length. I suspect you might have gotten so good at it you may suspect it would make the levels too easy. But trust me for a new person who spent like 35 minutes on the level where you get the beast mask. Its needed. So many times I did the puzzle right intellectually but my guy was just millimeters too far away to pick it up. Also with how un predictable the physics could be this would be vital in not losing a lot of people who might think your game is just rage bait. I almost quit quite a few times because of this lol
Also the base walking speed is too slow. I think the jump is perfect to still keep the utility of the beast masks. But a lot of time it felt tedious to just move. Which also stacks with the previous issue to make it feel sluggish.
Those are the main issues but dont worry I only went into so much detail cause this was one of the strongest entries in the jam. If those were all fixed and the game was more polished I could easily see this being a Nintendo level release. Keep up the good work!
Thank you so much!! I have never done 3D puzzle adventure, so I had no clue what I was doing :) . I did rigorus playtesting on multiple devices and people, so I'm sorry to hear the game was choppy!! I struggled with the mask overlay. but I felt that the faded mask looked too off... it would need alot of work, and since I started late I simply didn't have the time... also, I understand the grab length... I should have made it longer ya :*( . I kinda got used to it. Thank you so much for playing my game!
Yea perhaps having the ability to have no mask would work better. Or increasing speed of switching to motivate more constant switching. Its hard to say how much that is the issue moreso then the frustration on other parts making it the the scape goat. I dont think limitations on visibility is the main cool focus of the game though I think its moreso going across islands wearing different magical masks. If you were to have the option to have no masks I defiently think you should add more cave areas though where the light mask is needed!
Also if you have time would love to get your opinion on my game! Even if this is your first 3D game you defiently have good taste!

Tried the game at your updated link: https://finnfert.itch.io/tiki-trail-web
This is a well-crafted game. It's clear a lot of work went into it. It looks a great and has nice details like the crossing island scene and voice acting :)
My main gripe is that you made a really beautiful looking game but you cover most of it up with the mask. I think you are trying to put some tradeoffs for the player. But the vibe I get from this game is cozy and I wouldn't mind pressing a button to toggle these abilities while I keep my field of view and enjoy the scenery. Maybe reduce the alpha of the black significantly so that you can still have the unique look of your mask while letting people enjoy your nice looking game.
