Wow one of the best games of the jam! Having the goal be a canoe each level as you traverse a tropical archipelago is so memorable and cool in the moment! You did a fantastic job with the graphics aswell making them cohesive and inspired. The different masks didnt seem arbitrary they all has specific function that served the level. The entire Tiki idea really makes this entry stand out. The audio was also so good with the voice acting (Im guessing you lol?) and the music. The kuchugga when switching masks was also great! As well as the level transitions and cinematics
All though the game does have some serious problems. I think the masks blocking your vision felt frustrating moreso then a satisfying puzzle obscurity. I think if you make them like 80 percent transparent the game would still function the same and would be a drastic improvment. The light mask for level 2 was really good. I think having more caves where the light mask is the direct solution would stop it from seeming useless if you made the masks transparent.
The performance was also pretty slow. I think reducing poly count and expesially texture size would really help boost it! Also would help load times as it took quite a bit.
The grab with the mask of strength feels like it should have its range extended to be like 1.5x its current length. I suspect you might have gotten so good at it you may suspect it would make the levels too easy. But trust me for a new person who spent like 35 minutes on the level where you get the beast mask. Its needed. So many times I did the puzzle right intellectually but my guy was just millimeters too far away to pick it up. Also with how un predictable the physics could be this would be vital in not losing a lot of people who might think your game is just rage bait. I almost quit quite a few times because of this lol
Also the base walking speed is too slow. I think the jump is perfect to still keep the utility of the beast masks. But a lot of time it felt tedious to just move. Which also stacks with the previous issue to make it feel sluggish.
Those are the main issues but dont worry I only went into so much detail cause this was one of the strongest entries in the jam. If those were all fixed and the game was more polished I could easily see this being a Nintendo level release. Keep up the good work!
