really like the visual style of this game, did you hand draw it yourself?

Developer (3 edits) (+1)

Our team has two artists: Mern drew the background-image and the items, and concepted the monsters

Shadow turned the monsters into sprites, animated them, and also made the countdown graphic  and the opening gate (which apparently didn't make its way into the game) in the racing minigame

Update: The gate is in the game now!!

I got a Cathorn! Definitely had a Pokemon/Tmagotchi feel.

The game could do with a tutorial. It would also help to have an XP bar to know how the min-games are affecting evolution. The inventory items did not seem to do anything.

This game has potential.

Developer(+1)

The inventory was supposed to work, but we weren't able to get it done in time

Developer (1 edit)

The item-system works now! And the game has an EXP-bar. Levels also show how far you are from evolving your mon

I really like minigame collections! It takes me back to when I was little and played the Tamagotchi game on the Nintendo DS! Very nice, maybe I didn't see the theme with the twist? (Or I didn't notice, too caught up in nostalgia)

Anyway, I had fun! I'm sorry about the inventory, which seemed to be designed specifically for interacting with the creatures more. Maybe in the future!

Developer

I wanted to give my team a week of time to rest, and today we'll get to talk about if we want to continue this project and implement in all of the missing features that were supposed to be there

Developer (1 edit)

About the Jam's theme (the TV) and how it was supposed to relate to the game: There is an item in the inventory called the TV remote, it just is a toy-item just like the angel statue which is supposed to make your mon happier

When selected, the scene was supposed to transition into a TV room where the mon watches TV, that's literally all :'D We interpreted the theme in the loosest of senses

Developer

Update: The item system works now! But the TV remote still doesn't have its intended function, although 'tis usable as an item

Nice collection of minigames :)

Hey — I just played your jam entry, Hauntlings, and I really enjoyed the nostalgic vibe it brings. The concept of raising and evolving spooky creatures is both charming and engaging. While I understand that some features like feeding and battling were planned but not fully implemented, the existing mechanics already show great potential. The evolving monsters and the inventory system, even in its current state, hint at a deeper gameplay experience. With more polish and the addition of the missing features, this could become a standout game. Keep up the great work, and I look forward to seeing how it develops!

— thanks so much and best of luck in the jam! 🎃

this takes me back to the monster rancher/tamagotchi days! very nostalgic. I just wish I could pet or feed the monsters myself to make the bond feel more personal, but overall with time and polish I bet you guys can cook something really special here! thumbs up :D

Developer

The item/feeding feature did not make it into the game, unfortunately. As you can see the inverntory exists but the buttons do nothing as of yet

I wish that if we ever get to work on this again, we'll add that feature back in!

With more polish and content, this could be a very good game! I see it's potential, and I would really like a "spooky" pokemon-like game with cute creatures to take care of. Very good idea, hope you all get the chance to do more with it in the future!

Thanks! ^_^

Developer(+1)

I feel the same way, thank you so much!

Submitted(+2)

I can see what you're going for here.
I wasn't sure if there was more than the 2 games though, but I got my monster to evolve!
I can't believe I couldn't pet it though! :V

Developer(+1)

There are only two minigames. We were supposed to have a battle minigame as well, Pokémon-style. But it unfortunately had to be cut, but we got it to somewhat of a functional proto-state

The item-system in the game doesn't work, we kinda left that to the very last second and because our programmer (due to his timezone) was sleeping during the seven remaining hours of time to submit the game, I just decided to bite the bullet and submit it as it is

I'd like for us to "fully finish up" this game, to polish it and add in all of the stuff that's missing. But that's up to my team, since I can't program or draw for shit :'D

Developer(+1)

We definitely should make a petting-feature for our mons if we do ever decide to follow up on this game
