There are a lot of the shoot them up game, but you managed to make it interesting. Well done.

Developer

Hey thanks! I tried my best to give it a new spin with the darkness being a mechanic to make it more difficult. I'm glad you liked it :)

It Is Really Hard To See Where The Enemies Are Coming From Because Of The Low Light Source. This Makes For Interesting Yet Frustrating Gameplay. I Got Sandwiched Between Two Bats More Times Than I Can Count. Very Fun Game Though.

Developer

Thank you! The limitited vision was definitely a core part of the game idea but I agree that it can be really frustrating at times. An Upgrade to increase the strength of the light source would have helped a lot. Also the part about getting stuck between enemies is really annoying, I didn't manage to fix that in time :,)

Really addicting! I thought it'd be impossible at first but I love that bullets show u more of the surroundings, you can play a lot with that. It was super fun to keep getting upgrades and seeing how powerful I could get. I couldn't make it past wave 9 for now, but it was a great entry! Idk if it's my browser or what but wish it had audio :( Great job! Congrats <3

Thanks for the feedback!

Uncovering areas of the screen with your glowing bullets was one of the first ideas I had for the game and maybe my favorite, so I'm glad you like it :) I actually only managed to beat the final wave once myself, gotta go for +bullets and +firerate mainly.

And yeah, since I'm a musician as well I really wanted to compose the soundtrack myself. But when I realized that I wouldn't have sufficient time to do that it also didn't feel right to just add some free music to it. So now there's just no audio which sucks. But next time I'll make sure to take care of that sonner.

Thanks again^^

First game I have reviewed that incorporates a crt filter. I think the scanlines turned out great. Comes off as a very believable recreation and adds some vintage nostalgia. The gameplay is simple but feels fun and polished. One thing that I think would improve the experience is broadening the circle of light around the player. I get the mechanic of limiting enemy visibility but I felt that it was a bit too limiting and caused me to corner myself in certain situations. There could be an upgrade further into the game that would allow such a thing but I never came across it. Overall I think this is a pretty underrated game submission.

Developer

Thank you! I'm glad you liked the crt filter. It's something I wanted to try out for a while now. And yeah, giving the player an upgrade option to increase the light range was something I planned originally but somehow forgot in the turmoil that is the final hours of a game jam. Would definitely make sense and be a good addition to the gameplay.

Never seen a horror Survivor alike game, it is cool how you managed to do it. I think you could polish the dual weapon mechanic to make the game feel better but overall good job! The overlay shader makes it cool to look at :)

Developer (1 edit)

Thank you thank you! I agree that the akimbo idea kinda doesn't make too much sense in the finished game since you just wanna shoot with both weapons at all times anyways. But yeah the shader was something I wanted to try out for the first time in this jam and it was actually super fun.

Submitted

Yeah the shader makes everything look better in my opinion, i did a similar one too. If you have time, I would appreciate if you could give my game a chance and drop a small feedback :)

Not much going on right now in terms of veriety, but I like the idea of a survivor style dark game. Keep it up!

Developer

Thanks! And yeah, I agree. I got kind of carried away while working on details like the shader and other stuff when with the limited time I had I should have added some more basic stuff like additional enemies or some obstacles in the environment. Definitely a good lesson for the future in regards to prioritizing.

This is a nice game! The darkness makes it feel threatening even though I have ranged weapons. It took me longer than I'd like to admit to realize I had two guns to fire with LMB and RMB

Developer (1 edit)

Thanks for the comment! ^^

I wanted to add better instructions for how to use the guns seperately but didn't have the time. Glad you found them in the end xD
