I see you tried to play with diminished chords to give that uneasy feeling from the painting, which honestly quite work, but I wouldn't say it was perfect, the execution of this idea seemed quite clumsy (maybe due to your lack of time). When dealing with unusual harmony it is better to spread it in small amounts, the contrast with non-dissonant harmony highlights the dissonant moments and actually enhances the uneasiness.

Other than that, great instrument choices, though I would've liked to see the idea be developed a little bit more.

I hope you manage to get the opportunity to make more time for the next jam !

To be fair, i didn't aimed for diminished or for the paiting. I watched the flowerhead video about water music and used the base from that and played around the chords, also if the theme was around ice, why not use water music and play with the elements to let it be more dry and cold?

Nice track,

I felt the mix needed more space, everything seems very compressed, regarding the atmosphere and composition, I digged the creepy vibe, there some weird harmonies and dissonants there, not all worked, but the for the ones that did I think it was worth the risk when composing, so I have that mixed feeling.

Good submission! Take care :)

Nice work.

I'd say constructively you can go a lot wetter and more lush with the reverb - learning to control reverb is about mixing things in space. Having two reverbs, each on their own track, with two sends per track to each reverb is the way I did it this time (lesson learned) that made the strongest combination of lush and clear sound that I've ever made.

Great work, thanks for putting in the effort to get something across the finish line even at the very end. You didn't give up, and that matters actually quite a bit!

Developer

I didn't understand the idea, but i can try learn more about reverb for next time.

Why the rush with only 40 min?

I really think there is something in there that is quite interesting. While it uses dissonance, I don’t thing its bad sounding or overly dissonant sounding. More that it really adds to the atmosphere and mysticism. But I also think that this song could use some more tinkering. For starters I would really like some additional sparkling noises to fill out the treble frequencies more. A reverse delay with some pitch shifting for the piano could be a nice touch here. Also the placement in the stereo field could be broader and spiced up with some additional sounds for the atmosphere to get enhanced even more.

Overall I really like this song. It somewhat reminds me a bit of some older RPGs, like in an ice cave or ice temple, but with a more modern twist.

I rushed bcs the jam had 50 minutes left to end lol. Btw thanks for the feedback and i'm really happy that you got the vibe of the song.
Maybe in the next song i can try putting more layers and find more ways to fill the empty parts. I do struggle sometimes with the frequencies, but i'm improving on that.

First, you should add the soundcloud link to the description here. It'll help people find it much easier.

Second, this track is incredibly loud and (I mean this in a professional way) a little hard to listen to. Every instrument seems individually compressed and it created a very strong saturation. It's not really a bad piece of music, but there's so many clashing frequencies and in some segments the dissonance is seemingly more unintentional than inspired.

I'd love to hear how this sounds with a proper mix though, it's not bad at all.

Developer

i made it rushed and the jam was about 7 minutes to end when i posted, so i didn't had time to put the soundcloud link.

About the volumes, also didn't made much, but i feel that i can make it sound a bit more pleasing to hear, so i will upload a more mixed version on soundcloud and maybe on youtube as well.

Developer

Also, about the disonance, it was intentional this time. I was trying to get a specific sound.

Developer

i think it's better now

Huge heads up dude, it is straight up against the rules to update / reupload your submission during the jam...

Developer

Oh... i forgot... whatever, i had fun

Kind of sucks to forget the rules after getting feedback I guess. Sorry it breaks the rules, but I'm glad you had fun.

Developer

No need to apologize, it happens, my fault. Next time Next time I'll pay more attention.
