Super cool!! The graphics are absolutely amazing and it says you made them yourself.... INSANE! I love these survival type games and this one is no exception. It's so fun to explore and see what you can find.

One small improvement is that I wish there was a crosshair or some way to tell when you were hovering above items, as it was a bit hard to line it up. More volume and, as mentioned in the previous comment, audio cues would also be great was well.

Overall, for your first Unity first-person game, this is amazing! While a little rough and unpolished on the edges, you clearly have amazing potential for a 3D develeoper, really nice job!

Very ambitious jam project for just a solo developer! If I understand correctly you re-used a certain amount of code and assets from previous games but you also spend a lot of time on things people might take for granted, such as the custom shader work.

It has just the right amount of difficulty for me. I was able to figure out crafting and building in time, without getting any of the values at 100% and was able to beat the game.

It would've been easier to gather resources with an aiming dot. Also the lag spikes made it a bit difficult to play, because after the lag spike I often ended up in a random viewing rotation which was disorientating.

Perhaps some more audio cues and audio feedback would be a quick and easy improvement to the game's experience.

Overall, well done with combining all the systems and shader work, I hope you will run into less technical issues next time!

Hi. Silly question. How do I pick up objects? Do I press the E key in front of them? On top of them? I can't seem to get it to work.

Developer(+1)

You can use the left/primary mouse button to activate the current action. Or you can use the number keys 1-4 to execute the action on slot 1-4. See the control settings. It's basically like Minecraft and Space Engineers and such where you have a toolbar with various actions, tools or items. You can scroll through them with mouse wheel or Q/E or quick activate with a number key.

This must’ve been quite the project to pull off in just 10 days—especially with so many survival features already in place! Ambitious indeed πŸ˜„!

Visually, it looked really nice, and I could even hear the effort through my PC’s cooling fans at times, even after lowering the settings πŸ˜„ Still, it looked great!

Audio on the island was present. A good future update could include sounds for things like coconuts falling—or even visual effects showing them drop. Crafting sounds or a physical place to craft instead of just a menu would also be nice additions. Just some tips for possible future improvements. Or maybe some kind of end goal, building a ship to leave the Island. But there are only so many things you can do in 10-day jam of course.

Almost everything is a resource in this game, so the theme is definitely nailed βœ…

All in all, a big Ambitious  project and very well done—a solid jam entry! πŸŒ΄πŸ”§

Thanks!

Or maybe some kind of end goal, building a ship to leave the Island.

That literally is the goal of the game πŸ˜‰ There are three "buildables": bed, water distiller and sailboat. Building the last "finishes" the game with a message but you can continue playing.

Ah OK.. Nice πŸ‘Œ.. Did not make it so far πŸ˜…

Hey Acurna! I didn't expect a survival game in such a short time but here we are! Good job :D Incredible what amount of content you fit into that time frame. Gathering, crafting and building the world. Unfortunately it's a bit laggy on my end but I guess that's nothing unusual for a browser export with so much content. I spent a lot of time optimizing my game so I know the struggle with unity.

Overall very nice entry, good job!

Thanks!

Did you try lowering the graphic settings? The grass chunk generation can cause some lagspikes when moving around. Lowering grass distance and density helps.

First- I'm not a survival game guy, so I'm not really the intended audience.

First of all- I gotta say, on the technical level- this is really good (also- I've read your devlog before playing the game ;). Maybe even too much! I have a fairly beefy PC, and I had some lags here and there, but you addded detail sliders, so after some adjustments it was better. And while the graphics look really good- it looks like the sound of waves is the only sound in game. Some "hammer hitting wood" sounds when crafting would fit the game's atmosphere (also- I knew I remembered you from previous jam, and I written the same thing under Prosperia. Seriously- sound does a LOT for atmosphere).

What I liked were the clear and easy to use menus. This is not the only crafting game in this jam, but here I clearly knew what I needed to collect to craft a specific tool, or building. Kudos for that! And if we are on that- I really could use everything as a resource, so that's a nice use of the theme!

As for the game balance and polish. I think you could work on that a bit. Since only cutting down a tree destroys it, you could just use a palm, and a leafy tree, and sort of grind on that. I built a distillery, but discovered that any palm gives you all the coconuts you need, and they take care of your hunger and thirst. In a sense there was no incentive to explore the island.

Also- I thought it was a legal requirement to have a fishing minigame in a survival game :)

Over all- very ambitious project, and as such, very difficult to deliver during a game jam. You can tell which elements had the most focus, because they are done really well, but those that didn't felt rather neglected.

A classic sandbox action adventure style game!

But I think it is important to note your DEVLOG. It is well organized, written concisely, and has relevant pictures to help break up dense text.  I think devlogs like yours can really help other developers improve their own skills faster.

Fun game and awesome devlog!

Graphics are nice, though the game lagged like crazy on my pc, but i'll make a discount for this one since it's a Unity game. Controls are really awkward, i don't think picking up objects with numbers was a good idea. Also it's quite hard to figure out what to do before you die out of hunger. I liked the idea though, it's definitely unique !

You can also interact with things with the left mouse button and select the interaction with mouse wheel or Q and E or whatever else you configure. It's like the standard toolbar you have in many games like Minecraft or Space Engineers.

I wasn't sure how else to make interactions since most objects have multiple actions. Some games have rather random buttons or tap vs hold or require equipping a specific tool for a specific action but even then you sometimes still have arbitrary differences between left and right click or click and hold.

I like the island design and how this is a 3D game in first person mode. I ran into performance issues in web version since the game ran slower and made my movements awkward. I was able to collect as many resources as I can but I didn't know what to do with them so I just moved around the level until I died of hunger and thirst. This is a nice game overall despite my struggles with playing the game how it's intended.

There is an instructions menu with some help. Look at the crafting menu, building menu and inventory to see what you can do with the collected items. Like you can craft a coconut into two coconut halves which you can eat which reduces some hunger and thirst. You can craft palm leaves into rope, together with collected stones and sticks from the trees you can make a shovel. With that you can dig sand and build a bed for example. Out of eaten (empty) coconut halves and other items you can make a water distiller to turn collected seawater into drinkable water. And so on.

I really liked this survival game, the controls were nice, and the graphics were very good. I do think the map was big, and the UI could've been more detailed (specifically in crafting and inventory), and maybe having more finite resources, to incentivize exploration. Overall though, this was a fun game, good job!

The graphics they are awesome, I really loved the water, grass, sand and simply everything but for a game, You should have focused more on gameplay instead of graphics.
Idea of increasing thirst and hunger was good too

Could become a great game after some improvements.

I really like your idea of a survival game, but somethings I would recommend is focusing the world down smaller as I think it is too large, also the terrain can be dug into too deep and makes me fall through the world.

Overall, great game!
