I tried it one more time (with another youtube tutorial in hand), but unfortunately I still have no idea how craps are played, I may be too smoothbrained for it. I just keep forgetting what makes the point appear and what doesn't.

The single die is a very powerful cheat. Wojaks are pretty funny. Having bankroll be different from the winning cash is... an interesting choice, but it's a bit confusing. I kinda wish I could use the money I've won immediately. Also having normal dollars and gold dollars is a weird choice - why not use chips or just points for the game, and dollars for the shop?

I don't have much to say. The game itself looks nice, but I just can't understand the rules.

I played and got to level 4, I'm still having a hard time trying to understand the rules of craps and how the upgrades can help me in the game, that is my fault I think. I went through the tutorial and then went to the main game, the field was the safest bet most of the time and that is how I got to level 4. Apart from that the music was catchy and overall mood similar to Balatro helps you smooth you into the feel of the game, more shader type effects would make it even more immersive. I did see a typo in one part (pic related):

It says "Level Reaced" instead of "Level Reached".

The wojaks made me laugh, this is me:

Keep it up bro!

Developer

Thanks so much for trying it out!  It's not your fault, lots of people are having issues with the rules.  Just sticking with the field bet is fine!  It is one of the worst bets mathematically, but it's certainly the easiest to understand!

I have fixed that embarrassing typo, thanks for catching it!

Played through the tutorial and a few games. Recently got into Balatro, but I knew more about poker before playing it than craps before playing this. I like it though, and I want to learn. I cant really criticize any of the gameplay elements. It  works, tutorial was understandable.

Visually there are things I can suggest.. The wojaks can work but need to be more "stylishly" implemented, put them in boxes, remove the chairs, clean up the spritework, maybe commission automondev  to do it.

I would make all backgrounds stuff darker and make shit a bit sexy.

Great work!

Developer

Thanks for the kind words, I'm glad you enjoyed it to some degree, and I hope you at least have some understanding of craps!

I'm kind of just pushing the wojack issue off for now, I want to get the gameplay a bit more smooth before giving them another pass.  I do think I'll end up paying someone for work however, my attempts to draw them have not ended well (other then tracing)

Thanks for playing and the encouraging words!

I played this for a little bit. I don't know much about craps so I don't really have much to say on that aspect. Game is fine. I don't mind the wojaks, gives it a silly vibe to it. If you do plan on changing them though, I'd suggest using ms paint or something to make yourself with a similar vibe.

Da field is da best. Actually I just go all in on field and try and stack chips that improve field wins. I don't last very long

Windows Defender didn't want me to run the .exe and I suspect it's because you're distributing it unzipped

I'm a big hater on using wojacks in the game

I didn't do the tutorial so I don't understand the new customers (assuming its deeper than that they bet for some reason and sometimes reroll the dice) and heat mechanics. IMO the mechanics should be apparent even to someone who wasn't tutorialized about them

Not being able to hide the shop is a pain because I don't know enough about craps to know why I would want to buy some of the shop items and being able to see the board at the same time would give me more information to make my decisions

The roll button being grayed out while the board is lit up is bad UI when you've placed your bets and want to roll. I'd suggest turning it red or something once you've placed a bet and you're no longer holding a chip

It seems to be possible to achieve victory and defeat at the same time. I don't really understand the condition, but it seems to be easily replicateable when going all on field. It lets you keep playing as long as you have chips but blocks you from buying certain things in the shop

>Da field is da best. Actually I just go all in on field and try and stack chips that improve field wins. I don't last very long

This is a completely viable strategy, and can win the game with good money management and lucky rolls.

>Windows Defender didn't want me to run the .exe and I suspect it's because you're distributing it unzipped

You mentioned this last DD and I forgot it RIP.

>I'm a big hater on using wojacks in the game

People are split on it interestingly enough.  I have it as a stretch goal after more important problems with the game.

>IMO the mechanics should be apparent even to someone who wasn't tutorialized about them

Did you hover over any of them?  They would have a description of what each one does.  You basically got the gist of it, they bet a certain way, and have some special effect on the board.

>Not being able to hide the shop is a pain because I don't know enough about craps to know why I would want to buy some of the shop items

This is a very good point.

>The roll button being grayed out while the board is lit up is bad UI when you've placed your bets and want to roll. I'd suggest turning it red or something once you've placed a bet and you're no longer holding a chip

One of my goal this next cycle is to improve a lot of these subtle hints and guard rails for players.  Bets that are not active will be dimmed, roll button highlighted, shop elements flashing etc.  I think this will go a long way in helping with player understanding.

>I don't really understand the condition, but it seems to be easily replicateable when going all on field.

Interesting, will look into it.

Thanks for playing and the great feedback!

It seems to work. I think there could be reinforcement of the rules on why I won/lost. I did the tutorial but was still overwhelmed by what I'm hoping to roll, and why I would bet where.
Developer

Thanks for playing!  The recording is super helpful as well.

Did the blue numbers of the right of the screen help at all?  They should indicate what numbers will win, with 7 mostly being always the losing number.
I also have to ask, why didn't you buy any of the special chips, only the dice?  Just curious, because you had gold for them.  Would making the shop highlight them help?

Thanks again for playing!

I didn't know what to buy. loaded dice seemed like some numbers should come up more often and I can just bet on those.

Developer

It's a good strategy, but without the special chips (They give increased payouts, double placed bets etc.) the difficulty scaling will be hard to beat on dice alone.

It's good insight though, thank you!

for some reason, I thought Craps was a very simple game and the tutorial may have proved me wrong
I hope there are people that don't skip the tutorial because they assume the same

I've been watching the progress and like the look of the game (wojaks included, regardless of how goofy they are) but the biggest problem I'm seeing here is a lack of hover-over interactivity
if I hover over something with my chip it should highlight where I can place the bet, when I can place the bet
if I try to make a bet somewhere I can't right now, it should give an error effect
if I hover over a bet, it should show me what effect it will have / what it's looking for somehow (this is obviously a difficult request with some mechanics, but the in field bets for example can highlight which numbers it wants on board at the top) don't just rely on writing the numbers on the bet area, highlights and effects can be more powerful

why is the description AI generated

anyway I'll come back and play again later it's neat

Once you've learned the flow of the game, I feel it's simple, but getting there is hard without a lot of words.

>I've been watching the progress and like the look of the game (wojaks included, regardless of how goofy they are)

That's good to hear, although I think the wojacks do have to go eventually, it's not a high priority ATM.

>hover-over interactivity

This is a really good idea, and something I can do with existing code I have now.  Did the numbers of the right of the not help at all?  They should light up for what numbers a roll wins on, but it can be confusing with multiple bets out.

>why is the description AI generated

No comment lmao

There are some effects on the payout but it's still a bit confusing to work out what exactly is being paid and how. I can't even see what the payout of each individual option is! Especially with abstract/numbers based games, this kind of thing is the hardest challenge in gamedev so it'll take some time and a lot of iterations to make it clear.
Actually, I didn't even realize the guys on the side had any effect on the player until the Commissioned Agent came in since his affect was really obvious compared to the others. Speaking of, I'd find a way to color other players' chips differently to the player's own.

Since the game is a Balatro-like, it's worth taking another look at Balatro's effects, the UI is so interactive that even just hovering over a card makes it shake and wobble.
I just realized that every card in Balatro is designed so it can be picked up without committing/buying/selling. Maybe that's not relevant here but it's kinda interesting since players/streamers are always picking up cards while they think about if they want to make a hand or buy a card... I wish my own code wasn't so bloated that I could do stuff like that, my animations are always so stiff.
