Game Description
our 4th participation. We are a team of three and we hope you'll enjoy. Use E and CTRL to dash, jump as usual with arrows and SPACE

How does your game tie into the theme?
the theme was controlled chaos and we chose to treat it naratively. The game is a simpler platformer but the story is about controlling a choas demon,.

This was pretty great! My only gripe is that we cant really jump with Space while also hitting W. Made controlling it feel a bit weird but after the first 2 checkpoints I got the hang of it.

Besides that little thing, art was incredible. The first little cutscene was cool and the premise is pretty good! Could totally see this being a foddian-like game with a  boss at the end after each door.

Good stuff!

Awesome art! Once i got hang of the movement it was really fun!

Submitted(+1)

great art, i like the animation!

Developer

Thx!

We are glad you liked it! Our animator worked his ass off on this one and TBH when I saw the results I was a little bit stunned 😳.

Loved the vibe and the character art, but just couldn't get the controls figured out well enough to advance. Looked like a fun game though.

Developer(+1)

Thank you!

We did put the controls on the Itch.io page but forgot to update the submission page as well, sorry about that. You can find them there:

https://hp-alexo.itch.io/doomsday

- Move around: AD or QD or Left/Right arrows

- Jump: W or Z or Space or Up arrow

- Drop down: S or Down arrow

- Dash: Left Ctrl or E

And we unfortunately ran out of time before we could add any kind of UI

Developer(+1)

Hey!

Sorry to hear that you struggled with the controls.

We are aware that the keys to use were unclear (I just saw that on the GWJ80 sub page, I didn't write the controls, only on the itchio page :( )

Thx for the feedback !

Nice art, music, and animation. I didn't like the way the controls felt.

Not sure why. Once I got it down, I did fine. I would consider tweaking that for a more fluid feel. But the whole concept if expanded would do really well.

Nice Job!

Developer

Thx !

I made the music so I'm really glad you liked it (it was really sloppy but I didn't play music for so long it was full panic mode Hahaha)

I agree with you, the controls need work. We tried to get a modern type of controls but we couldn't get the fluidity needed and the animations increased some of the bad feels... (But I love them so much and the cost a lot so I didn't dare to change them)

Thx for the feedback!

The art style is amazing! The core platforming is great and fun once you master it. When you get the last checkpoint, is something supposed to happen besides the door closing? I wasn't sure if it was sort of done there or if I was missing how to progress further.

Developer(+1)

Thank you Corey!

The initial plan was to implement a game over screen once you reach a time limit or close the door, but we got caught up by the Jam deadline unfortunately.

We forgot to mention that on the page, sorry about the confusion.

There is currently a 5min timer that reloads the level to materialize a game over, but that's pretty much it!

Developer(+1)

I'm very happy you liked the platforming. I do think we touched the modern and dynamic platformer style we tried to reach. The controls are janky and the lack of instruction is a problem tho.

Narratively we had to cut some features :/

At the last checkpoint the door close and you are supposed to see a cinematic like the one in the begining but we couldn't implement it or find a good replacement. Likewise our cameras are fucked, sorry about that!

Thanks for testing our game and for the feedback

Love it, has a hollow knight feel which is great. Something to show you can boost jump would be good, so players aren't stuck no knowing how to progress. Also loved the music, but some other sound affects would be good.

Developer(+1)

I'm so happy you felt a tiny bit of hollow knight in there.

You are right tutorial wise it's very lacking :) sorry about that.

Without the Monday extension we would not have implemented any sounds. It was my first go at Godot sounds and I spent soooo much time on the music (with so so results exported at 21pm) the rest of the sounds are missing and are missed you're right.

Thx for the feedback, we'll improve next time because of it!

The game looks very good and I had a good time with it. I liked the art and level design, although for some reason the game was stuttering a lot on my system, so I was only able to get through the first 3 checkpoints. It then became very difficult to play with low frames per second.

Congrats on your entry, it must have been a lot of work. Pretty cool opening too!

Developer

Thank you Bobbi!

Yeah optimization is definitely not our proudest feat on this entry, it gave good and bad results on our friends' systems (with no correlation to their specs).

That prevented us from publishing the web version, which was consistently stuttery.

Cool game! I like the art style a lot and I think it's cool that it's one giant level that's kinda broken up into sections. The controls were a bit finicky especially for the wall jump, but I had fun playing thru. Great work!

Developer

Having another brain working on the main code allowed me to think about the level design. And it felt awesome!

The first concept design of the door was so good I had to keep it central trough the game. In the end the cas are so fucked that you can't see them before the end (sorry Ben TT I tried)

Thank for the feedback, we appreciate it!

don't know if I'm supposed to press something, but I think the character doesn't spawn/load on Mac :(

Developer

Hello,
I'm sorry to hear that.
You're not supposed to press anything to start. I'm afraid the game may not be running on mac

We didn't have any wa to test it so we just hail Marryed it

Sorry for the inconvenience

All good! It happens. Our windows build was broken when the voting started, which is arguably a lot worse lol
