well this just oozes style, god damn.  the channel thing is really interesting (both as theming and as a battle mechanic) and while the level of control here is fairly coarse, i imagine in a larger game there would be more influence over it

unfortunately i got stuck in a loop where their healer could heal an insane amount of damage every turn, and meanwhile my alleged 30% chance to hypnotize him failed seven times in a row, which is about where i gave up.  but this feels like a numbers-tweaking kinda thing

Definitely echoing that an in-game tutorial would take this to the next level - the camera movements feel super dynamic and fitting of the vibe you’re going for, though the way it swoops from place to place makes tracking who my team is verses the enemy a bit difficult. Also agree that you probably don’t need both the chance to hit and the channel system, especially since 30 percent is pretty low! Love the mechanic of hypnotising people to take off their clothes being a way to lower AC, and the character designs are super cute.

Cool art, the combat has really fried my brain in a good way.

Really nice presentation. The channel system is pretty unique. It would've been nice to see a few more skills to make the combat a little more engaging, as it was I largely just focused on keeping the enemy team on the same channel as the hypnotist and spamming hypnotise - although I understand the limited skill selection was probably just a product of this being a game jam.

Nice work either way! I'll be interested to see if and how you build on the concept in future.

Very well done combat system, the character art is also nice!

The character art and various battle effects look fantastic! The combat is very cinematic with all sorts of neat animations and a very active camera! The dynamic interface elements are also suitably matched to the style. If you want to expand the game, increasing the pace could be of benefit in keeping the players actively engaged in things. Wumbreon has done a good job with the music I think the track is very suitable for what's happening and there are proper sound effects for everything you're doing.

Channel-based skills are a really neat idea! Since the channel already add a good degree of chance, you can probably remove some of the other luck-based effects, like stripping hitting at 30%.

It's a very impressive battle system with a lot of care and polish! I am curious if you intend to keep going, I think that even a single update to add a story that spans 3-4 battle scenarios with the same cast of characters and skills would be a great way to showcase the full potential of your work!

Thank you! Definitely agree about the chances, I have some ideas to give the player more control to reduce the reliance on chance. But that'll likely be in another project I'm starting based on this instead of a direct update because there's a number of other things I want the change as well.

I would contend that the lack of a tutorial is the ONLY thing holding this back from being masterful. The gameplay is complex and engaging, the art is great, and the visual flair has earned this game the only 5 I've given so far for aesthetics. Even the little details are excellent. The code in the background of the menu being from the game is a personal favorite. With a little accessibility patch, a little shoe polish, this could be GENUINELY excellent.

Strong aesthetics in this one! The channel system adds an interesting complication to the battle, and it's very visually striking. I like it a bunch, I could definitely imagine a bigger RPG built around these mechanics. As the other comments have noted, a tutorial would be nice if you want to keep working on this, but I was able to get the hang of it with a little trial and error.

Also, thanks for including a Linux build! 🐧

I seem to be running into an issue where button hitboxes don’t line up with where the buttons visually are, so it’s pretty hard to click the right things…

Developer

Huh.. not had that bug before, could you tell me which resolution this was at? It might be a scaling issue.

You can also use the number buttons to use them

It took me quite a while to get what was even going on (and I still don't understand some of the mechanics like the weakening signals and cleansing signals) , but I love how nice the UI and character's look.

It's also a really fun turn based system :3

Thank you! Yeah it desperately needs a proper tutorial aha! Ill flesh out the text on the page a bit more.
