- Well done! This was an awesome entry! While this platformer was extremely difficult getting started, I did enjoy the mechanics and I kept going back for more. I loved the art, animations, music, and sound effects. It was all top notch! As I said before, I did struggle quite a bit. Mostly skill, I'm sure. I did find that the sword was quick to bounce off of walls. Sometimes the bounce was a little drastic too which really became an issue on narrower sections. I also had a hard time trying to rotate the weapon around to "pull" myself up over a ledge. Even with the struggles, I still managed to eventually make progress. I hope you continue developing Switchblade. It's one I will definitely be keeping an eye on. Hopefully we'll see you back for another jam!

Have you checked that your GDD is publicly accessible ?
Yes
Is your game set to public on itch.io so we can see it?
Yes
Summarise your game!
Switchblade is a challenging platformer with a somewhat atypical movement system. You explore a large map and unlock of variety of weapons. You might find it a bit difficult to reach the end!
Please explain how your game fits the theme:
You literally play as a bunch of different weapons!
Is there anything you'd like the judges to pay particular attention to?
It'd be great to know if the levels feel relatively balanced in terms of linearly increasing difficulty. Our limited playtesting showed that the difficulty spiked pretty harshly in previous builds, so we've done a lot of work to try to even out how hard each section is compared to the last. It's not perfect, but the more we can learn from other peoples' experiences, the more we'll know for the future.

cool
The starting weapon... I don't know what it is lol, but I rolled about until I eventually got the exploding weapon (4th) and then after that became a real struggle. I had fun at least, the music was repetitive but I do enjoy this genre. I think the UI was very nicely designed, and overall art was great. Very cool game!
Nice visuals and music! I struggle a bit to understand how to move with the first weapon haha but thats probably because I have never played something like this before!
Equal part frustrating and fun haha. The primary mechanics feel very good and allows for very diverse level design, while being incredibly simple. Visual and audio fit the game perfectly. I just whished I found a way to make the results of my actions more consistent. Sometimes I felt like the progress I made was more from luck than skill.
Great work overall!
i agree with you, i love this game (also nice banjo-kazooie pfp)
I don’t how or why I end up playing this game, but it was very fun to play!!
Loved this one! This is so well executed! I originally thought this was yet another getting over it clone (seeing how the game started), but after the weapon upgrades, it really shines with something different and fun! Love the cute graphics, cosy music and also the satisfying length and difficulty of the game! Also, it's very good to have that reset button built-in or else I am never going to finish the game. Got a horrible score of 41:40:37 even with the help of the reset button though. Congrats!
Don't really have much to criticise really, I guess the only thing that could be improved is the sword, it feels a little bit under-powered, and was almost never used in the final few levels
Anyway, well done!
Loved it, even though I'm usually not a fan of rage platformers this game did several things right:
- Checkpoints to limit how much progress you lose
- Variety between areas and skills
- Good feedback on impact, consistent
When spinning the blade it sometimes felt like it was too bouncy, and in the later areas it felt like I didn't have much reason to use it, maybe its initial jump could be buffed a bit, which would also make the initial area easier for a smoother difficulty curve.
The art is super nice and crisp, same goes for sound design, shattering glass is satisfying and the TF2 sticky bomb launcher has a lot of neat tricks you can do with it. Out of the jam games I played this is the best in its genre.
nice entry! The art is cute and music makes me calm after so many attempts to understand the mechanics XD
The game is really nice! Well done
wow... this is really really hard though, or maybe its just I didnt understood the mechanics very well in the beginning, either way, its awesome, the art is awesome as well, 10/10 for me
This game filled me with rage, congrats.
Well made, but not my type of game. I haven't turned into a masochist yet :)
This game has ruined my day. 5/5 stars
I like the concept but I'm too bad for this game xD I couldn't get past the first jump part even after 10 minutes :( all in all good game tho. :D I wish I could have made it past the section I got stuck and saw the ending.
What an absolutely stellar addition. One of my other team members already gave some feedback, I just wanna double down on it. So far, this is hands down the best game I've played out of the jam so far. Took me nearly an hour to beat it, but time well spent, I enjoyed all of it, even if I may have cursed at my screen a few times. Thank you for making this and sharing this, genuinely!
Could be really cool when the controls are awesome and feel great!
Fun idea, I love difficult platformers and I think this can quite benefit from a more generic fodian type of level design (in my opinion). I think the idea is great and would love to see this grow a bit more!
Fun & Challenging!
First will say, this is definitely not my type of game. Bit too hard but I think thats the point- similar to something like "getting over it".
Visuals & Music are nice, I can see this turning into a Twitch streamer ragebait game. :D
Props on getting it to be both mouse & controller supportable although both had their advantages & disadvantages made me switch between them a lot.
But I think its mainly skill issue on my end xd
I hated this. Sooooooo haaaard. Since I assumed you were going for it, congrats =). Jokes aside, amazing art and overall design. Nice submission!!
P.S.: My kids are laughing hard around (at) me. So that is a thing.
The amount of polish is impressive! It feels good to play (even though it's super hard lol but that's the idea). It's a nice take on this type of game to be able to change shape/have different abilities. Great job!
