  • Playability - I sort of like how the camera following the bullet can sort of spin, but it does get annoying when everything is upside down. - I think if you slow the bullet down by about 10-20% this game will be much easier to enjoy, or implement some kind of focus meter for slowing down instead of what you have currently (slow down period is too short and leads to bullet simply stopping) - The hitboxes of the cameras are too big! I think it would be cool to promote the fantasy of weaving through small gaps. - Good tutorials/ramping in level complexity. Theme Implementation - Taking control of the projectile is a popular choice this jam, and you executed it well! Cleverness - Unlike Children of the Sun, you give the full reigns to the player for bullet steering. There's also obstacles, bouncing, etc. You've got something pretty fun cooking! Artistic Style - That title card is very slick! Your UI elements are a bit all over the place stylistically though. - The quips as actors fell over were very funny. The game has kind of a similar feel to Totally Accurate Battle Simulator. Lean into that silly feel! I saw the test dummy in your GDD, that could be a good angle to go in. Or perhaps emphasize the "Spaghetti" Western. - I like that you have custom text styles sometimes but the rest of the time the font is Unity's default Arial. Always switch it out, even for a game jam! Excellent work! This is a great project, I hope you consider polishing this up and taking it further. Thank you for your participation!

Have you checked that your GDD is publicly accessible ?
Yes

Is your game set to public on itch.io so we can see it?
Yes

Summarise your game!
Take control of the protagonist's bullet in a western movie's shootout scenes!

(Make sure not to shoot the cameras though, or the "shot" is ruined.)

Please explain how your game fits the theme:
The player gets to directly control the bullet, as opposed to the character wielding the gun.

Clever. Good job.

Fun idea! The western theming was a good iea. The concept has simple to understand, and fun to play. I think having more variation of obstacles would benefit this game. Leaning into trick shots I think would match the theme very well. Great game!

This is a nice game with an interesting idea! Being able to slow down time and control the bullet is a cool concept and I wish the game could expand more on it! The music and the movie theme also add quite a lot to the charm of the game! Nice work!

For some criticism, I'd say the time-slowing mechanics felt a bit awkward to use, where you don't really know how much time has been slowed, and there is no way to regain time either. It doesn't help with the fact that the bullet will lose its momentum once time is slowed down to a minimum. My suggestion would be to do it as a hold toggle (hold for slowing down, release for normal speed) instead. Not sure how you feel about that. Also, please add a mouse-sensitive slide. I am banging my mouse quite a lot just to get enough turn on the bullet, and it gets annoying quite quickly.

Anyway, the game is quite well done overall, good job!

A most excellent entry! Instantly reminded me of sniper elite with the bullet follow + western. Even tho that's not how Elite plays. I really liked the open ended nature of the game. Just adding some different ways to interact with the environment really just opens up how you go about taking them out in style! The game was pretty intuitive to play which is always great. There were times I wish when it bounced I could have a little more control, but eh I got used to it. The art and music really just enhance the comical western vibe you're going for. Love the little details from the main menu to the opening of each scene to the VO lines. Hilarious and fun.

OH! And I shot myself. 10/0 Would shoot again

Good job y'all!

I knew someone would try (or end up) shooting themselves, so I made sure the player can also ragdoll :D

Thanks for playing!

This is such a fun entry! I've never seen this kind of* take on 'steer the bullet'-type mechanics before, it felt really fresh and it was clear how much love had gone into designing it.

The gameplay felt really natural to pick-up, the tutorialisation of each new mechanic was clean and intuitive, and the mechanics were really fun to play around with. The controls could possibly do with reviewing, by the end of all the swooping and swishing I was doing I did sometimes struggle to tell if the bullet was going to find its mark, but to be honest it almost always did, so I don't think a big overhaul is needed by any means.

The levels being short and easy to restart really helped, I didn't feel stuck at any point, I could experiment with different paths or hunt around for the more elusive bandits without worrying about wasting time.

I adored the staging of each level, the precarious piano and church bell that just begged for a bullet were absolute highlights, you can really see the influences of the spaghetti westerns. Each stage opening with a film reel was a super stylish choice, I loved it!

The music was great, sound effects were superb (especially the deflection ping) and the voice lines were perfectly cheese-y with a good layer of grizzle from our rough and ready lead's performance.

You've laid some really solid foundations with this, I could totally see how it could be expanded even more if that was where you wanted to take it. Really great work, good job everyone on the team!

Thank you for the kind words!

I was hoping the sound design would resonate with players (hehe), shoutout to Rausch and Chase for sound, music and voicelines.

I hope to expand on it with more varied level elements, like the bell and the piano, and plan to overhaul the camera a bit so that steering feels more natural.

This was fun game! Bullet control felt too hard for me as the bullet flew a bit too quickly as it bounce off objects, but as I got better it started to feel better. I loved how the enemies fell as ragdolls. Nice use of theme. Congrats on making the game! Ps.

“Starring Play, directed by Quit” had me laughing out loud.

Developer

Thank you for playing! Adjusting bounce and control speed are already on my to-do list for a future build.

This one took me for surprise as the title screen was pretty bugged. Came in and accidentally shot frame 1 into the first stage (Cause I wasn't sure i clicked the play button so i started spamming clicks) and cleared it immediately. Stage 2 is where i actually started playing the game and spent some time learning how to control the bullet and honestly had a lot of fun, great concept.

Music is fantastic, wouldn't change anything about it. sfx although also really good, I feel the mix is a little weird sometimes, like the bullet bouncing off metallic objects is really nice but sounds super quiet compared to all the other sfx.

UI and menu could use a lot more work of course but overall a really fun game and a great submission for this jam. Great Work.

Developer

Thanks for the comment, I assume you mean the spacing of the buttons in the main menu - I noticed they were anchored incorrectly too late, but in full screen it should work ok (depending on resolution).

Glad you enjoyed the rest though, we'll work on adjusting the volume for some sfx and probably all of the voicelines (in case it was too quiet there's a random voiceline each time you complete a level).

Wow! I'm impressed with the mechanics for the game! (the metal bounce and the rope cut are really cool aditions). The cover art is amazing and I love the title. I got a little dizzy at times when I bounced off of a bell or the coin and the camera not only was really slow to turn towards the bullet's direction, but also rotated and it messed up my mouse control; it felt pretty jarring at times. Other than that, good job! I liked it.

Developer(+1)

Thank you, glad you enjoyed it!

You can rotate the camera with LMB and RMB, but I'll consider auto-rotating the bullet after a bounce so the camera isn't skewed.

Really enjoyed this one. Loved the theme. Was pretty satisfying to guide the bullet. Good job!!

Very fun, very creative. Idk how you would solve this, but I find the camera angle change from bouncing off an object to be somewhat jarring. Maybe you could freeze for a few frames, and smoothly transition the camera into the new position, before starting time again? Also on the coin level, I could not find the third enemy.

Developer(+1)

Thank you for the feedback!

I have a function in place to ease the camera into a new angle, but I'll probably have to tweak it more, the freeze frame is an interesting idea.

If you can't find an enemy try looking behind barrels, or up on windmills. I'll consider making them more visible, maybe with a marker/arrow that appears if the player is stuck.

Love the mechanics of this game! Really smart, they make for a unique puzzle game. Good work!!

Thank you!

Amazing game, loved every second of it! <3

A tiny tutorial could remove the chances of people getting confused, but honestly it's done so well that I don't care xD!

Would love to see this get polished up even more! :]

Developer(+1)

Thank you!
I tried to design the levels to teach one mechanic at a time, but didn't have time for a proper tutorial.
We plan on continuing work on it, probably with different environments/themes each chapter.

Sounds great, looking forward to it! :)
