If this is your first project don't expect for it to blow up immediately. I'm a pixel artist myself and know what it feels like to not have much engagement and think it might be the art when in reality it is mostly luck to get your game noticed (either that or time). Don't give up and keep working and showing off your progress. Good luck!

Give it a shot and let the community find it first. if you would like to change or upgrade your art there are plenty of paid or unpaid artists on the help wanted forum that could give you a hand on design and illustration. Your project sounds like a neat idea, so I hope you continue developing it!
