This game is beautifully implemented and hilarious. Like dgtziea, I threw everything into the bowl before I found the recipe, but I also couldn't figure out the oven so the pie came out raw even after hours of cooking. I now have no soul, and should probably just give up baking.

Very neat game! Liked the ghost a lot, tone/writing, and the multiple endings. Seemed well implemented. I'd already thrown everything into the bowl before I found the recipe, so though I did bake it right, I think I ended up with a score somewhere in the 70s? I played this a while ago, so that might be wrong.

Developer

Any ingredients you added before seeing the recipe would be not at quite the right ratio. Good enough to satisfy the ghost but probably not to get compliments. :P

Thanks for playing. :)

This is a fun idea. I seem to be having trouble working out how to measure ingredients and where to find a pot to cook them in though? I liked the footnotes as well.

Developer

Thanks! Measuring is rather poorly implemented (deadlines eh?), if you have seen a recipe you will automatically measure ingredients if you have measuring tools. There's a pot in the cupboard.

Thanks for the tip! I was trying to work out the command to measure the ingredients into mixing bowl and couldn't quite work it out, I'm obviously overthinking things.  Easy, I'll just put them in the bowl then :)

I made the pie! The ghost wasn't all that impressed :( Oh well at least I got to keep my soul. I'm guessing there's a trick in there for those of us used to working in celcius? (Which I guess if fitting given we're not getting the treat, so we get tricked.)

One thing I couldn't work out still was how to cook the pumpkin in the pot. It just didn't want to go in there!

Encountered a rather baffling response:

>mix pumpkin / TypeError: Cannot read property '0' of undefined

I did figure out how to mix (acting on the container, not the ingredient), but that was a new one. Other than that, charming game with an easy to understand goal that rewards clever attention. And fun use of humorous footnotes.

Developer

Thanks for the bug report!

Oh, and I see that extra easter egg. Or should I say I hear it? I love it. I'm learning that on my accordion. :)

Yeah, really nice presentation. Although I just can't interact with the eggs, I don't know if there's a bug or if the game is short in egg implementation. Nothing works: empty the eggs box, taking egg or eggs, cracking them, pouring them, breaking them. Please, EGGGHELP! (you can update the game and fix any egg related thing)

Developer

Thanks for the feedback!  👍
I'll be sure to improve egg handling for the next version. Is updating the game before the judging period ends allowed though?

In the mean time, you should be able to "ADD egg TO" or "PUT eggs IN".  Also, just between us, you might be able to pull a fast one on the ghost and bake him a cake with no eggs. How culinarily refined can those undead really be? (you won't get a perfect score without eggs)

HostSubmitted

Yes! you can, and must, fix those eggs. It is just a "bug" that prevents players to proceed with the game. It is ok to update for that.

thanks!

Updated the game with CRACK and BREAK for eggs. Also made ADD friendlier and fixed GO TO PANTRY which wasn't working .  Hopefully I didn't break anything.  🤞

I just used put for everything, because I am lazy. :)

This was fun! I tried a few times and was able to appease the ghost--although only just.

I appreciated the footnotes.
