the fov is the worst thing in this game

other than that the game is very nice

maybe it needed more content

Thank you, and noted, I reckon it wouldn't be too hard to implement a FOV slider, I just didn't think of it.

This is insane! It feels like the intro to a full-blown 2005 sci-fi immersive sim! Love the art, the atmosphere and the music! The enemy gibs are a very nice touch!

Some feedback:

  • It would be nice to have a full-auto weapon where you can just hold it down, or else add a cooldown between clicks to avoid spam clicking
  • The AI voice lines could have more character and maybe humor, but that's just subjective opinion
  • The reactor core restart could definitely use some more juicy animations, so the player feels like they've just rebooted a super powerful energy core

For a jam game this is truly amazing, EVEN with the recycled code and generated assets!

Thanks! and thank you for the feedback!  I did have an overheat coded for the gun, but I couldn't get it feeling right, and without a visual element to explain the gun was overheating, I thought it would be confusing for players, so I commented it out, and said I'd come back to it and make a little UI element, or part of the gun that gets redder. But I didn't get around to it. I agree the voice lines are a little lacking, It's partially because my story/event/dialogue system is the wonkiest implementation I could have done, and also because It was swelteringly hot, and I couldn't finish recording soon enough so I could turn my AC back on.

Definitely agree on the reactor core restart. I should have atleast added a bigger sound, or even some particle effects or something.

The temperature was not ideal for game jamming in a lot of places last weekend that's for sure

Thank you! I really worked my butt off to squeeze in what I could, and definitely learned a lot from it! I wish I could try out yours too, but my windows computer is broken :(

Man when did you have time to make a full on shooter game on a spaceship with voiceovers??????

Developer

I was writing a reply breaking down my time exactly, but it got very long, so I made it a devlog instead!

https://nebulaoblivion.itch.io/starship-in-peril/devlog/416721/from-start-to-fin...

In short, I work hard, I work fast, I sleep very very little, and I had a fun, if mentally and physically draining time.

Cool game though when shooting the gun feels lifeless since there is no recoil, nuzzle flash, and also it's confusing where to shoot I understand position enemies in the middle but a reticle would help

Developer

Yeah definitely needed some polish on that bit, but by Sunday I was really sloggin through and just happy I finished the story.
